BACKGROUND
Silence Sanctity is what they called me when I was found. I was abandoned as a whelp and raised by a troupe of entertainers. Growing up with and learning from them taught me many things that would later become useful for... well… more beneficial work.
Being raised by entertainers afforded me the luxury of seeing and experiencing many things most folk can only dream of. I've been called to the court of kings, mystified and entranced those who rule over so many. I astounded crowds with acrobatic wonders and filled them with awe and fear by creating grand illusions. Sleight of hand always came naturally and was useful for getting a little extra from our crowd's purses.
After my skills in deception and thievery were refined, I started to pursue bigger and more lucrative opportunities. It was during one of these jobs when everything went to shit. It was after dark, everyone had gone to bed, I made my way out of my tent and headed to town. There was a man with an eye for rare and exotic trinkets that lived there, he was my mark. I kept to the shadows and avoided the eye of the night watch, but I was not alone. Footsteps, guards coming around the corner, I ducked into an alcove as they passed. It was then that I felt the sting of betrayal and my world went black.
When I came to I was in shackles and behind bars, two members of my troupe were talking with the guard, I saw the exchange of coin and the looks of satisfaction on their faces. They looked down on me as they walked out, I'll never forget those faces. Six years, countless lashings, living like an animal, and now I'm out. I've lived my life as a noble, a criminal and now as a pauper. I found a ship, joined the crew and after a long voyage, fraught with danger and lucrative adventures, I find myself upon strange shores looking to start again.
I have served my time, now to find a new life to live and with any luck, get back at those who took mine away.
