Building Fractured Online with the community
We said early on we are building this together with you the commmunity. The community voted on the t3 armor set appearances.
World & Graphics Overhaul
We’ve made major strides in updating the world of Fractured Online. It’s not just about changing the shape of biomes but enhancing the graphics as well.
- Biome Updates: Our first biome is coming along nicely, though it’s not fully finished yet. As we move into the second biome, we’ll circle back to polish and add new features to the previous ones.
- Visual & Audio Overhaul: We’re giving everything an update. The world will not only look better but will feel more immersive than ever with updates to visual effects, textures and audio improvements. On the stream we previewed the adaptive audio. Have a listen here.
Engine Migration: Foundation for the Future
We’ve been migrated to our new networking layer, a necessary move given the previous system’s limitations. This update is crucial for the future of Fractured Online and other games we develop. Many of the core system functionalities have been migrated, but many are left and are being redesigned. We are steadily making progress and we’ll keep everyone updated as we move forward!
Dynamic Event System: How we deliver content
One of the major improvements we are developing on is the dynamic event system. This will add more depth to the world, offering interactive and emergent gameplay content. We are building out what triggers, events, and rules exist to ensure we can scale and provide content for a team our size. For example, if players build a settlement in a location that is home to certain mobs, those mobs could react in various ways. This may include swarming settlements or causing periodic attacks from roaming bosses.
Building & Settlement System: Creating with Freedom
Building in Fractured Online is getting a significant overhaul. We’re moving towards a more modular building system that allows players to truly express themselves in their settlements and homes.
- Modular Town Building: We’re shifting from prefab systems to full modular constructions. This means more flexibility in how you build your homes and towns. Whether you want a quiet, small settlement or a bustling town, the path will exist.
- Unique Layouts: We’re giving players the ability to customize not just the visual elements but the layout, decor and function of their buildings.
Kickstarter Rewards & Cosmetic Updates
For our Kickstarter backers, we’re making progress on fulfilling rewards, with exclusive armor skins and cosmetic pets in development.
- Cosmetic Pets: We’re excited to introduce Draco Hatchling as one of the first cosmetic pets, with more on the way.
- Kickstarter Armor Skins: Kickstarter exclusive armor skins are moving into development and 3 of those are game ready, so players can expect to see these in our environment soon.
Combat Focus
Combat is one of the key areas we’re focusing on and it’s undergoing some changes to make it more feel “good” and impactful for PvE & PvP.
- Action Combat: While we initially considered going for full action combat, we’ve opted for taking the existing combat fixing what was wrong and going in-depth to provide a more balanced, engaging experience. This will be a more of a focus on MOBA style combat, we have heard feedback from many players that other areas of design needs focus. The change in direction means we can expand and develop more of those requested systems.
- Combat Test: We are still targeting a combat test in Q3 to gauge how these changes work in practice and get player feedback.
Gathering, Crafting, & Professions: A Deeper System
Gathering, crafting, and professions are integral to the new Fractured Online. We’re expanding these systems to make them more immersive and rewarding. We are doing so by
- Account Bound Professions: While the Archetype system encourages multiple characters we want to value the time players are putting into non combat roles. We believe by moving these to the account level players can explore builds without the concern of what character has certain crafting capabilities.
- Specialization and Dependency: This system will naturally create specialization through needed effort to master all skills this naturally will create players who focus on certain professions that depend on others. The goal is to ensure that the player-driven economy stays a key aspect of the game.
Thank you everyone for choosing to spend your time with us either in the stream, watching our updates on Youtube or reading recaps here. Your support fuels the team to build Fractured Online to what we as players have wanted for years!
