Ah, you misunderstood me, sorry, I should have explained myself better/more detailed.
PvE content should be developed and should exist, but that is typically the fastest consumed content and a race no developer can win (PvP content is partially 'built' through player interaction, which is why you need less time developing and can keep up at the pace of consumption). If you have an 'open world', where PvP is part of the PvE experience, that takes less time to develop then a purely PvE instanced environment.
      Does that make sense?

But what if a PvE player doesn't want to do PvP content. Such content is meaningless for that person then, even if isn't consumed as fast as PvE content. πŸ˜‰

(...) I really dk why everyone is sooo sure that beastmen are going to be a walkover to pvp'ers.(...)

I doubt that's the case. Balancing would be trivial (the less PvP you're doing, the higher your bonus due to beastman environment) for that matter.
It's more about people who do not want PvP to happen at all (and try to rally for changing the vision/design of the game accordingly) in specific areas. Because that would directly impact the PvP part (not only does it take development time to develop the pure PvE part, that can't be spent developing PvP content, but the interaction between pure PvE and PvP can easily unbalance PvP).

The developers are already spending time making PvE content though, like dungeons and events.

@stardust As others have pointed out, at a campfire you can change your skills around. The only limitation is what your character has learnt. You must acquire the skills previously. Therefore if your character has gained all 400 skills you can essentially play however you like whenever you like.

You can't change your attributes though, so even if you own all skills, you won't be able to use all of them effectively.

Can we get more info for what "lawless" and "lawfull" pvp mean?

Sure, the demon planet will be lawless and will have "lawless" pvp. Perhaps there aren't many things to say in that case. But what about the "lawful" pvp at the human planet? I suppose that would be linked with the "justice system", but that could mean pretty much anything.

I don't think the devs ever used the terms lawful and lawless PvP. That's just the definition I gave to it and for some reason the whole forum now refers to the PvP as lawful and lawless. πŸ˜› So, don't read too much in those two words.

@fibs said in Are you a PVP or PVE player?:

@jetah If Fractured is designed such that a fresh player can compete consistently with an experienced player, that's exactly the opposite problem.

Losing rare loot to a PK is not unplayable. Fractured allegedly will not permit completely impossible PK scenarios the way that BDO does, that specific rare loot is not a necessity to progress in the game the way that leveling up would be, and there are too many options for loot to assume that you will consistently be blocked from it by a PK every single time (unlike BDO's grind spot bottlenecks).

However, one of the achievement lists to upgrade a fire spell says to go to a specific location in Tartaros, and unless that location is pseudo-RNG that will subsequently become a PK hotspot which will make that aspect of the game unplayable for mass numbers of players as it will be impossible to successfully go there and fulfill the task, regardless of how gud at gaems you are. You're not a movie hero and can't just magically sidestep a full guild of scrubs all spamming AoEs on you. The only saving grace of this will be if a white knight guild is also there specifically to stop people from PKing questers, but I strongly doubt this will be in as large numbers as PKers.

I doubt that the Demons will camp that spot 24/7. πŸ˜› I don't mind the fact that it will be hard to complete tasks on Tartaros considering that planet's ruleset. Personally, I only care about Arboreus when it comes to safety. If I need to leave, I'll just take stealth with me.

    • RE: If I understand the playstyle system approximately...

Yeah that's about right. We don't know exactly how hard it will be to kill on Arboreus. I believe Prometheus meant NPCs with the "environment turning against evil people". I don't know if there any other safeguards inherent to the planet. Syndesia and Tartatos are right. Syndesia got a justice system and Tartaros got nothing.

@finland said in Clarification on the target audience:

@Miffi the point is that @Gibbx missed the fact that all pkers/gankers wanna go kill players on Arboreus ;). Yeas is possible to kill there ;). Hard but possible. They don't care about the demon platent lowless because players mostly wants to kill players to hurt them e let them rage quit (so those who are going to play on demon planet are not so appetizing for pks). best choice is to remove pvp on Arboreus so everyone gets what they want. a planet for fully pvp, one for fully non pvp, and one for both.

Exactly, and this is something that the devs need to understand. All those Demons who want to PK on Arboreus to "kill the carebears", are doing so with the intend to drive them out of the game. Unless the debuff is huge, like 90% stat reduction huge, it's not going to matter. If evil players have their stats debuffed by 5%, and Beastmen get buffed by 5%, that's not enough to make a difference. There's a reason the only hardcore PvP game out there still standing is EVE. Darkfall died like 2 times now, Albion is dying, Mortal Online is a corpse that doesn't know it's dead yet, Runescape shut down Darkscape, etc. Heck, LinkRealms, the game Prometheus worked on, apparently shut down today.

I feared that Arboreus would become a PK hotspot due to its carebear nature, and the comments I've seen the last few days certainly confirm that fear.

    • RE: Clarification on the target audience

I've warned Prometheus months ago that there's a good chance the beastmen world will actually become the main PvP hotspot because they'll be seen as carebears. Judging by the comments in the PK punishment thread, this is exactly what seems to be happening. Prometheus talked about some of the measures to make it harder for gankers to gank on Arboreus, but I would like more details about those measures now that it's clear that many gankers are going to make Arboreus their main target. Personally, I wish they would just turn off PvP completely on Arboreus. Fractured would be one of the first sandbox MMOs without forced PvP if players don't want it, giving them the whole PvE sandbox market to themselves. Instead, I got the feeling they rather make the same mistake every sandbox game has made before them, somehow expecting a different outcome. 😞

So yeah, I agree with Logain that it's time for the devs to give us a clarification on the target audience. Is this a game where they want PvE and PvP players to co-exist on different planets, or do the devs envision a game where Beastmen are cattle for the Demons.

This post confuses me somewhat. Is it not obvious that there is something designed into this game for everyone? A whole world for PVE'ers where they don't have to worry about being ganked. A whole world for PVP'ers where they can PK to their hearts content. Guild action for the empire builders. Crafting up the wazoo. Due to the setting catering to the fantasy crowd.
      Did I miss anything?

You can get ganked on the PvE world and that is exactly the problem from what I can see. There seem to be a fair amount of people here who think that Arboreus is fully PvE, or want it to be. The devs on the other hand have repeatedly stated that PvP and ganking will happen on Arboreus, it will just be harder to do. I have the feeling this is going to cause a lot of friction in the future. There's a real clash between PvE and PvP players going on in some threads right now.

      @pownstar said in PK punishment:

It should not have punishement at all. PK player's are player who know's how to pick or leave a fight. If you are afraid of Pking, it's because you don't have the skills to defend or the guilde to help you. Having played at lot of good old vanilla WoW, the PvP for quest areas, ressources or even just to piss other player's off is the best memories of gaming I'll ever have. Gattering a group of random folks to fight over a spot vs. unknown rivals or planning a Hudge raid with over 3 guilds to go and attack the capital of the other faction was priceless... even if some new player could only look at us with hope to be, some day, good as we were

In this game, whether or not there's a punishment depends on the planet you're on. πŸ˜› If you go Demon, there won't be a punishment at all. I think you would feel really at home there.

@jetah You are free to PvP everywhere. Just join the demons, they suit your play style perfectly. But donΒ΄t drag the other planets along. This game is being made in a way that suits all kind of play styles, that's why there are 3 planets with different rules and each suited the best for different play styles. So donΒ΄t try to "force"other people to play the way you want.

gonna be human so people wonder if i'm friendly or not. gotta keep people on their toes.

the games mechanics offer a way to pvp on the beast planet then i'll find a way to do it.

You will die trying. Evil players on the Beastmen planet are debuffed while Beastmen are buffed. πŸ˜›

    • RE: A compilation of everything we know about Fractured.

      UPDATE!

      Important update
Prometheus has informed me that some of the information is incorrect or oudated. As Prometheus informed me about these changes through a pm, you'll just have to take my word for it. πŸ˜› The following things have changed:

      • The development of Fractured started January 2017.
        Has been changed to:
      • The project started in January 2017, but development of alpha 1 started in August.

      OUTDATED INFO:
Instead of deleting this information, I shall use strikethrough to make clear to everyone else that this information is now incorrect.

      • We haven't planned to distribute game keys directly in The Foundation so far, but it's something we're going to discuss in the future.

      • It's unlikely you'll be able to obtain game access through the Foundation.
With the distribution of the pre-alpha key, these 2 links are no longer accurate.

      • There will be divine schools of magic.
        outdated info.

      • Fractured can be played on Windows XP apparently.
Aint going to happen anymore, outdated info.

Also I have taken the opportunity to add a few more answers to the list:

      6. EMPIRE-BUILDING:

      • Buildings owned by players are protected in general, except for city conquests.

      8. CRAFTING, EQUIPMENT AND ECONOMY:

      • We'll have spears and some other poleweapons.
      • Leather armor and gambesons will likely fall under a different catagory.
      • No race-based limitation on crafting, all races can craft all racial armor if they manage to obtain the recipes.

      13. GRAPHICS AND ART:

      • Current heavy armor has a gambeson.

      14. MISCELLANEOUS:

      • Fractured will have an ingame chat.
