      Friendly fire is a must-have

Well it is an option, but not even close something to must have. Some people think it is a cool feuture and some not. It more like causes a good amount of ability and melee vs. ranged balance problems. There is still unresolved issues related for groups, alignments, planet rules and karma points. It can also be used for griefing/exploiting. And finally, FF gives nothing special with trade. It is not a good anti-zerging mechanic, because it affects also for smaller groups. And because of these reason SBI dropped the implementation of FF from the table in Albion Online. Still this might be something what DS wants to tets out, so lets see how it will go.

These smaller player owned asteroids could be called meteoroids (which are small asteroids irl). Even those would be mainly for personal/guild use, maybe other players could visit those (like in any other asteroids) in some perioids. And at the same time when the meteoroid is open for public, the content in it could also change, unlock things to do for the players.

Agreed, these guys deserve good funding, how can one not support the concept this game is brought to the MMORPG genre.

      I feel the same.

@Devs or Marketing team, I am not certain but, I kinda feel like it might have something to do with the advertising or marketing. So we need to spread the word. I even sometimes do that in Albion online. it's funny once I /s to the dead guy in BZ told him " hey there is a game called Fractured where you might do stuff without dying".

      Marketing I think( just Thinking)

There is a lot of stuff devs can do with marketing and also with low expanses. I already started a whole thread related for this matter so I won't go too deep with my comments. Here is few points what marketing could concider in near future:

      • Official videos (at least trailer)
      • More content news
      • More active with communication
      • More active in social media
      • DevBlog

If I understood right, one reason why Znirff was signed, that he will make improvements for marketing strategy, -planning and actual -implementation.

Sandbox doesn't mean no rules. It means open world with no linear path. You are allowed to go where you want and do what you want.

This is pretty good definition. I would only add, that this all happens within the rules and frames set by developers. Idea is of course only set rules which are needed.

Exactly... everyone is allowed to do what he wants, including the guy that's "taking the toys". 😉

Everybody is allowed to do what they want, but still within the rules set by developers. Players are not above the game or devs.

@Gothix said in The End of most Sandbox PVP Games-The losing side.:

I'm just saying that "setting too many rules and limitations" would make the game not fun anymore.

If someone placed an effort, was smart about how to organise and do things, and as consequence he gained advantage over others... he should be allowed to reap the rewards of his smart play... and not pushed back with the message "hey, others are weak so we will now limit you so others can feel successful too".

Smart game design will, of course, give some tools to weaker players (groups) to allow them to learn, to get better by learning and to be able to fight as underdogs, but those tools should never directly limit those players (groups) that worked to be successful and earned it by smart play.

Tools need to be designed so they can aid players in need with options and with an opportunity to improve, but should never be designed in such way so that balance is achieved by "taking away the success" of players that earned it.

      TLDR:

      • yes, design the game so that it helps weaker players to learn so they could become better, give them different playing options so they can succeed with various playing styles
      • no, do not try to force the balance by limiting the success of players (groups) that just played well and deserve to reap the rewards of their smart play

In any game there will be those more successful and less successful... a good game should never "force the balance" by mechanical limitations.... difference in success between players (and groups) needs to exist because that is what drives the social mechanics of the game.

And... things can always turn around... people just need to be taught that they need to work for it, rather then expect this to be gifted to them by game mechanics.

What on earth you are talking about? 😅

You are talking about tools, learning, helps weaker players, mechanics, forced balance, taking away success, smart play, smart gamedesign, limiting success, etc.

But where is all the concreteness?

What are the tools and mechanics you do not want to see and with what you are okay with? How you exactly take out someones success? Just mention few confusing points. 😉

@grofire said in Steampunk Technology: What we can expect to see in Fractured?:

@Tuoni but you said it, the UK ruled over the world, that what a better technology do

Actually I did not say they ruled over the world, I said they were the top nation in technology progression. However, yes we can say they were also the most powerful one, but it was not a total domination. Competion was very tight between several European nations.

so I do not understand how they will mix steampunk theme with medieval theme, and balance it.

It will be balanced with supernatural powers. Humans have technology and Beatmen/Demons have special supernatural abilities.

I just hope that everyone will remember that this is promoted as a sandbox MMO. 😉

If limits will be set all around the game on various "mechanics" to prevent imbalance and other similar situations, then people that came here for sandbox will leave.

Game can have own rulesets and still be a sandbox game.

I personally prefer much more sandbox games than themeparks. Still there is nothing wrong if sandbox games have somehow different rules and mechanics from each other. I do not know who will actually leave if some restrictive mechanics for huge zerg guilds will be implemented? Well I don't. Sandbox games with no rules and more place for anarchy and chaos is what pushes players away for sure.

@grofire said in Steampunk Technology: What we can expect to see in Fractured?:

@Tuoni there isn't, i hate when games mix timelines, it always looking to me like there was a lazy writing, "if you can't put cool stuff in your main timeline, just make several timelines - that should be cool." and i do not like this thinking.

Oh well, we all have our affections and it is hard to argue about those. I guess mixing different eras and themes comes always with a risk of failure, but in other hand, it can create something new, fresh and interesting. It is all about how it will be implemented. Combining different ages together have not been a big issue for me personally, it is the result which matters most.

Moreover, if we think our world and our history. Nations and cultures have basically lived in different advancement stages all the time. Good example is the British empire and how they were the most advanced nation in 1800s. Reason for this was industrial revolution, which was about fast development of coal based steam power solutions. When some other europen countries followed short behind, rest of the world was easily few hundreds of years behind the top progression. Now in Fractured I can see a lot of similarities for what happened in real life, so there is nothing weird about human technology and steampunk theme. I hope this gives at least a little bit different kind of perspective to the whole steampunk case.

Humans, on the other hand, are weak in comparison, thus it makes sense they would try to compete via technology. In that vein, steampunk tech seems a reasonable development.

Yeah, shortly, it is pretty much this.

From our side, we can say that our will is to maintain a balance between guilds, we won't give too much power to the biggest ones and we will try to avoid that.

I am glad to hear this. We do not need to know the exact tools at this point, it is far more important that your desire and goal is to keep the world domination in somehow balance. I believe that actions for this direction will add more longevity to the game. Still, even topics like this are not current, there is nothing wrong to discuss about these matters early on and maybe some ideas can be picked up for later use. We never know.

In perfect situation control of lands would divide between many guilds and alliances. This is unfortunately not usually the case and only few will rule. In Albion there was now and then somehow good or at least tolerable situation. However, I do not know anything about the current situation.

If some actions are needed, then I would start with these few things:

      • City/town/object conquers are limited for certain number of players. This number can ofc scale a lot depending size and importance of the object.

      • Effective anti-zerg mechanics for open world.

      • Making upkeep of several objects hard. Not impossible, but more you own, more effort you need to upkeep the control.

Asteroids are more like zones, not dungeons. They can be procedurally generated though. For those who want randomized dungeons, there's the labyrinth. 😉 I don't know if there are any other randomized dungeons."

@Nukem hmmmm.. I remember NPC factions: The Undeads, Demons from Hell, Diciples of Morgana, Keepers of Albion and The Heretics.

I know what you mean by that and those same enemies were getting bored quite fast, but I do not remember any orcs.. Was there really orcs? 🤔

Those people who are concerned about mixing middleage fantasy setting with steampunk theme. Have you ever played WoW? There was a lot of steam and mechanic technology involved with high fantasy. Did that felt weird? To me, no, and I do not remember any complains from other players either. Maybe in Fractured this can be somehow similiar. At least this can be close enough comparison what came up my mind. 😊
