Chronicles of Elyria, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky,... there are many examples of projects where players definitely have to worry about the budget and scheduling of a game.

And the reason for delays has been stretch goals?

"Animal Taming: Tame and train animals to help you in battle"

Now because this text stands in the stretch goal we achieved. Maybe we could discuss how people wants these pets to take part to the fights?

I would like to see a lot of different kind of options. Maybe different kind of pets can handle different roles? Tank, dps, heal, support (buff) or distract (CC or debuff).

I understand the want for more features but I still think they should focus on the basics game figure out how to do all the things they already promised before adding more workload

Stretch goals are not only about adding optional features. Idea is also to get help from backers to achieve goals that developers wants to be in the game.

"Rather these are optional ideas for you to implement and are a way for you to incentivize your backers toward helping you achieve your new goals."

So stretch goals aims for win-win situation if planned smart. That is why we should not worry about how the devs can handle the possible stretch goals. They will arrange a survey to value the need of more stretch goals, then they build a strategy and later more detailed plan if needed. They have enough data from previous stretch goals what they can use to evaluate the situation.

      1. Let's be honest here-too little funding is just as dangerous as too much finding.

I have been working in few startup companies and I am actually working in one right now. I am responsible of the financial side and I have to deal with fundings as well. So many companies are struggling with fundings, and their whole project is at danger just because lack of money. Now you are saying that they would be in same danger with a good amount of funds, because companies does not know how to handle situations like that? You got to be kidding me.

      1. Sure, you can have your opinion.

      2. the majority are failures

If we both mention few projects, it does not mean anything. The sampling would be so small to make any reasonable conclusions. That is why this your claim is totally absurd, because you already told yourself, that you do not have any statistics backup this argument. Anyway, here is few succesfull campaigns if you insist to know: Guns of Icarus Online, Edengrad, OrbusVr: Reborn to mention few from Steam and KS.

    • RE: Stretch Goals

      "What Is A Stretch Goal?
A stretch goal is an additional goal you set for your campaign in case you exceed your initial funding goal, and is generally used to finance another specific aspect of your project. Note that stretch goals are not a feature that is built into the Indiegogo product. Rather these are optional ideas for you to implement and are a way for you to incentivize your backers toward helping you achieve your new goals.

      What Are The Benefits?
When your audience sees you've reached 100% of your initial funding goal, they may not see a compelling reason to contribute more. A concrete stretch goal is a great motivator to do just that — especially if it rallies around a specific purpose — and a hugely successful campaign might even have more than one! Stretch goals are especially helpful if your project has a high budget.

What Makes A Good Stretch Goal?

      It's Reasonable
Hitting a $10,000 goal on day one is great, but it doesn’t mean that a $50,000 stretch goal is reasonable. While there’s no rule of thumb, remember that you should be able to fund the main portion of your project with your initial goal. If your aim is to raise funds beyond twice the total of your initial goal, consider a series of stretch goals that breaks that total into smaller compelling steps. Similarly, you probably don’t want to promise a stretch goal that will double the amount of work you have to do to fulfill your perks or campaign objectives.

      It's Concrete
"We want more money" isn't a compelling reason to contribute. We recommend that you find another concrete goal for your project that justifies asking your funders for further support.

      It Benefits Previous Contributors
The best stretch goals mobilize your contributors by offering them something else they want. Skullgirls built and distributed new game levels – and because that extra content benefited all contributors, it motivated everyone to share the campaign or contribute a second time because they wanted the new levels for themselves."

I personally hope devs end up to add new stretch goals after A1/P2. They can break the pattern and raise the milestones from 10 000€ to something much more if needed. I have always seen stretch goals good way to get new people to pledge, but also to get current backers to invest more. Most important part is to invent very appealing goals, which people are really keen to achieve. Maybe we could make some goal suggestions to this thread even we are not sure are we going to see new goals or not.

Right. The karma aspect of alignment covering good/evil is well explained on the wiki. I'm looking for available information concerning the lawful/chaotic aspect of alignment.

Good, neutral and evil are the only ones which matters and have actual effect. So we will have only 3 different alignments in use. Rest combos (like chaotic good, lawful neutral...) are left for RP.

      1. So you started to compare gaming studios to lottery winners and celebrities.. okay.. I think we should talk about business and how small amount of funding can be a business risk, but when getting more than expected it really won't be. Getting more funds just makes your work easier and you just can not put those two extremes on the same line.

      2. Okay so those people who are not here have doubts.. and you know this because?

      3. So you have not followed crowdfunding companies, but you can say from your own experience that majority of those games are failures.. hmmmm.. right. Kickstarter by its own has about 250 MMORPGs (MMOs on top) listed and on top of that other crowdfunding companies and their games. Just saying, that you can not say majority of those MMOs are failures if your sampling bases on few personal experiences.

      Animal: Steam Dragon

      Planet: Syndesia

Spell(s): This dragon will breath steam instead of fire. Every steam breath attack will also increase the overall temperature of area, which will stack heat debuff on players. Players have a chance to cooldown the space with some kind of mechanics. Because the Dragon is partly metal, it will conduct well electricity and it will be vunerable for element of lightning.

Description: Steam Dragon is a result of experiment to replace some of the dragon's bodyparts with bionic versions. This dragon could be one of the bosses in dungeon called Research Center.

@Farlander Yes you are kind of right. In D&D there was alignments for animals too, but they have changed that later. Now animals are unaligned, so those are not even neutral.

Maybe basic animals could be all unaligned, because they are unable separate good from evil. However, animals could still use insticts/will, so they can trust more to certain type of alignments and/or races. That was actually my point.

      @deusex2

      1. One example won't mean that getting a lot of funding is as dangerous as you get too little. Getting a lot of funding is rarely a bad thing and getting much less than expected and/or needed is almost always a risk.

      2. This sounds more like your opinion, that people are sceptical of this project. I have not seen much sceptical attitude anywhere, most people have been hopeful. One thing for this is quite realistic schedule, open development progression and honest communication between community. If DS keeps it this way, there won't be much sceptisism around.

      3. Do not roll that part for me, if you are saying that majority have been failures, I guess you should backup your story with some references and have some statistics as well. Otherwise this is also more like your opinion.

I like the idea of 3 different types, although the third would be more "foodstuffs" than just cattle. So Pets, Mounts, Foodstuffs.

Like I said: "cattle as part of farming and cooking."

Lets just keep it as cattle, it describes the purpose a little bit better than "foodstuffs" tbh.. 😉 Livestock is another option to describe all those farmable animals, which are raised for crafting purpose and mainly for cooking. Not just for meat, but those animals can also produce milk, eggs, hides, bones, horns, feathers, etc.

I would like to see three different purposes with animal taming and breeding.

      • Pets
      • Mounts
      • Cattle

Mounts are ofc used for traveling and transporting and cattle as part of farming and cooking. But.. I have been thinking, what kind of use those pets are actually planned? Utility, cosmetic, combat?

@Achili said in Animal taming and breeding.:

..sentry type animals that can alert you to the presence of enemies, or other high level animals nearby.

I really like this idea. It might become handy in the open world.

@Luranthe said in Animal taming and breeding.:

@Achili I'd love to see animals that are sensitive to a players alignment. An animal on the Beastkin world could be wary or even hostile to evil players, while they might be friendly or even attracted to good players.

It was good you raised up this alignment point. This should be taken account when a player is trying to tame a specific animal. If their alignments match you have easier task, but if you do not share the same alignment it should become hard or even impossible.

I would like to see pets at least for utility use. Maybe some of those could help find rich resource vains or even treasures, and some helps to track animals for hunting purpose.

EDIT; Maybe some pets can warn master about aproaching players and work like anti-zerging mechanic.

How too much funding can be as dangerous as too little? 🤔

Which is why many people are sceptical regarding this project, regardless of dev's behaviour.

Many people are sceptical? I would say most people are hopeful.

Obviously, I wish this game success, but it isn't the first crowdfunded low budget MMO out there, and the majority are failures, sadly.

"Majority are failures" Are you sure about this? I am not saying you are wrong, but it is kind of heavy argument if it bases on your opinion. If you have gathered this information from somewhere I would actually like to read more about it.

    • RE: What albion did wrong- not a bash thread

One more thing came up my mind. In Albion the end-game content, GvG, territory wars are build around 5v5 system. This will exclude a huge portion of players out of that content. Okay they can support with logistics and securing transports, but most players never have a chance to actually participate.

In Fractured I hope we can see different sizes of sieges/conquers, GvG, so a lot of people from the guild can be part of the fights. 5v5 can work in situation where guilds are fighting over a small object, but when objects are growing for larger towns/cities/metropolises, then the size of the battle should scale up too. Varations can easily be 5v5, 10v10, 20v20, 30v30, 50v50 or 100v100 just for giving few examples.

    • RE: The End of most Sandbox PVP Games-The losing side.

@Crowdac I found this from Feature Spotlight #6:

"The degree of protection enjoyed by players on Syndesia is location-dependent, and varies according to the laws established by the guild in possession of each town and its surrounding territory. No hostile actions are permitted in Good-aligned towns besides during sieges, while protection outside of city walls depends on the efforts of the sovereign guild or alliance. This includes hiring NPC squads who hunt down and dispossess any player marked by a criminal flag such as Thief or Assassin. Starting towns can’t be conquered, are always Good-aligned, and their territories strictly patrolled."

It seams that what kind of actions can be performed in towns depends of the alignment of that town. Okay, that sounds fair.

@Crowdac said in The End of most Sandbox PVP Games-The losing side.:

@Tuoni I don't think cities are safe zones in Fractured. I believe a player can steal and murder in cities. They just have to be willing to pay for it with karma lose and perhaps the guards delivering them a just death.

I am not sure either how this will be implemented, but..

If players can attack others in towns, what value this will add to the game? I can not find any..

In MMORPGs towns are places where people normally chills, AFKs, crafts, trades, etc. I can already see how these towns are zerged regardeless of some NPC guards. If not for profit, then just for fun and missery. Imho PvP should happen in open world, not absolutly everywhere.

Karma loss happens everywhere so it can be leaved away from this. If pick pocketing is a thing maybe that could happen in towns, but I guess that thievery is more like about looting ko/dead player.

In Albion cities are safe zones where people can not PvP (beside dueling). That is pretty easy and working solution.
