killing enough of a certain mob to get a title, such as 1000 chickens and you get Chicken kicker

Good example what there should not be. 😅

Killing lets say 50 dragons and you get a title of Dragonslayer is a different thing already.

Ok I phrase it different you gain a title by completing a target. The target is in a way an achievement. For me its a small borderline to ingame dungeon achievements. Once you start it this way people will demand that as well.
Titles are already distributed with the pledges so for the launch I don't believe they will put in much more titles.

Yeah you are right, that titles can be called achievements, because those are achieved some way. However, I guess a lot of people perceives achievements like in WoW. I do not personally have anything against that kind of system either, but DS could create some really meaningful achievements without things like Jetah mentioned, or killing critters and other lame stuff like that. Actully I would like to see achievements more like trophies which are actual cosmetic/vanity items what you can place in your house/estate as decoration.

Back to titles then... Titles could be combined with knowledge system which will be there anyway so it does not cause that much extra work. When you unlock something rare, hard to accomplish and meaningful, then maybe you could get a title also as reward. Or maybe when you have unclock X% of the whole knowledge tree it could give you something nice, like Tuoni the "knowledgeable", Tuoni the "wise" or something like that.

People love titles, okay not all of them, but a good amount of people does. They want to sound cool, they want to show others their status and they like a little goals like these. So Why not? If this can be implemented with small effort, I do not see any downsides.

@LilCassiopeia But we were now talking about titles, which can be a little bit different than achievements. Unlocking titles can actually be bound with knowledge system.

I'm okay as long as we have the option to turn people's title off.

Last thing I want to see if a bunch of floating tags above people's head in this type of game.

I agree, it would be nice if you could turn it off above of the players. However, the focus could be more on the portrait anyway after you have targeted or clicked a other player.

I like the idea of titles, it gives some status and goals for those who are interested.

@FrostyWimbly said in Optimistic, but Hesitant:

So this game looks like it has so much potential. It can either be one of the greatest MMOs in history, or it can absolutely flop like so many other "revolutionary" games have in recent years. The concept is solid, but the problem and challenge will be execution. I'm thinking this game could be fantastic, but I'm intrigued by how everything will be set up in terms of items and resources. This is a game that I plan to keep my eye on, but with a mindful feeling of doubt about its construction. I just hope my optimism isn't wasted.

What do you all think about where this could go?

I do not blame anyone to be hesitant when we are talking about pledging a game in early development. I blame the industry and especially those failed projects, which have made people more careful.

If I think of Fractured, as long as we can actually see the progression, regardless of few short delays, I am not concerned myself. DS just announced the start date for Alpha 2, which is a noticeable step forward in progression. My advice for people is, that jump in when you feel comfortable. No matter is it in Alpha, beta or live, just remember to keep eye on Fractured. 😉

      Seems like you are backpedalling.

At multiple points you directly quoted my comments about MMOs not being sustainable on cosmetics alone. Make up your mind please

Like the one were I said selling cosmetics is good to combine with other payment method? My mind is not changed at any point.

Next time actually read the posts before commenting so you do not need to make false arguments. 😉

I will accept that for the first round we had against eachother but then you directly quoted this:

"Not many MMOs can get by with just B2P and cosmetics. (I do not count BRs as MMOs)"

At which point you made a plug for AoC 😉

Yes we were against each other, but do you understand that for reasons you made up your mind? You started to argue against something what I have not even said.

Actually we already discussed about AoC before than that. You said; AoC is not an MMO atm and you concider it as a BR game. That is why I commented on that sentence at first place.

      🤔

A cosmetic only model sounds fantastic, but it is also naive unfortunately. I mean they literally already sold convenience with the carpenter

Argument between you and me started from here (below). Yitra asked and I answered directly to that question. It is purely generally speaking, that cosmetics do sell and can make a good amount of money for the gaming company. There is no mention of cosmetics to be the only income, there is no critic against convenience items (generally or Fractured) or any intend to do so. Do you see the problem here? You started to counter argue for something I have not said or even thought. 😉

Why would I spend money on things that don't give me anything useful?

Many gaming companies do a good amount of money with cosmetics, so I guess most people are fine to buy atleast something

Everything you are saying is speculation. Get back to me when AoC is a mmo.

If everything what I am saying is speculation in your opinion, that just shows how less you know about the whole situation. You do not seam to understand, that it does not matter if there is not that MMO yet or will it actually ever be, still those cosmetics are sold in the name of the MMO.

      @Farlander

Not many MMOs can get by with just B2P and cosmetics. (I do not count BRs as MMOs)

I presume you still refer to AoC with this... I do not try to protect Intrepid Studios' actions and their Apocalypse project, and actually I am quite disapointed and mad about it. Anyway, those who have bought and still buys the cosmetics are mainly MMO players. Some of them takes Apocalypse purely as a testing ground and some hopes, that they will get some day the MMO product what they backed at first place. People also buys these cosmetics, because they can bring all what they have purchased to the MMO version too. Yeah I have to admit, that those cosmetics looks pretty good, even not so much of my taste, but I really understand if people like those. So my point is, that even the MMO version of Ashes is at A0 stage and the BR version launched as early access, still the cosmetics are mainly sold for MMO and not for the pure BR players. This is why AoC is a valid example how good cosmetics can sell, and if there would be the MMO game released already, those cosmetics would sell multiple times more.

I just hope multibox will not be allowed.

WoW classic has a lot multi boxers atm. People pay for 5 subs, then control 5 chars simultaneously and farm at 5x rate, which is a clear pay to win, and I don't see Blizzard doing much about it.

Some people even converted multibox to multibox BOTs and are letting BOTs run at night while GMs are at sleep...

They might allow the multiboxing, but botting is still illegal and will lead to ban if get caught. Imo the multiboxing should not be allowed at first place, but gaming companies sees these as extra income and that is why those are allowed in many cases. If I remember right, in Albion Online multiboxing was also allowed, but your characters were not allowed to interact with each other any way.. Well that is better than nothing.

I agree a sub based game is the best way to even the playing field. Subs just don't work for me any more because I don't have the time to play like I did in my 20s. For that reason I feel I'm cheating myself on the sub lol. The sub is one of the reasons I dropped SWTOR. My playing time dropped so much I felt I wasn't getting my money's worth.

I would gladly pay monthly subs to get that equal playground. I understand your concern of the payment, but even you averagely play just 1-2 hours in a day I guess 10€ for example is not a bad price, or what you think? Of course you need to get some counterpart for you monthly invest like @Xzoviac mentioned so it would feel like worth it. AOC for example has planned a free game with subs, and imo that sounds really nice and easy, because there is no starting cost from the game itself.

@Pluto so you think people want 2 subs? Imo that wouldnt work and would make the company look greedy

No. I think you will notice that I mentioned a true sub model is not possible at this time. It would have had to be a discussion before any packs were ever sold

A true sub model involves a monthly subscription to pay for the base game and all updates. There is no VIP, no convenience items, but there could still be cosmetics

But they could make the vip almost mandatory like eso does with the infinite crafting bag.

Not that I'm suggesting they do it's would be fairly scummy

Albion Online has also this monthly premium package, which is kind of "optional" subscription. In practise the benefits are almost mandatory if you do not want to grind your ass off for example. For some people the premium costs are not a problem, because you can buy that also with ingame currency. Still quite shady system imo.
