It would be the same damage over a minute but not the same DPS.

Calculating damage / second (DPS) is a really standard way to measure damage in MMORPGs and actually generally in games. Reason for this is simply because fights are usually short and/or damaging is not constant, and rather fitful.

Actually, I have never heard of Damage over minute as a damage measure system, and for reason, it is not practical at all. πŸ˜‰

min-max take into account 15 minutes to get an average per second. there are hunters and some rogues in WoW that can burst to 30k dps but after that burst they only sustain 5k until their CDs are up then they can burst again. (numbers are guesses but it's to show a point). that dps may be closer to 8k once averaged out. then you have moments where position and movement could impact dps.

Yeah so? Speaking of WoW, how those weapon damages are presented? Thats right, with DPS.

@Gothix Sandbox doesn't mean no rules. It means open world with no linear path. You are allowed to go where you want and do what you want.

This is pretty good definition. I would only add, that this all happens within the rules and frames set by developers. Idea is of course only set rules which are needed.

Actually there is also spells which will hit the targeted enemy and does not need aiming, at least those "magic missiles" which I am using atm with arcanist. However, I guess most spells needs aiming which is cool.

    • RE: Open Question to Developers.

Because Fractured is based on these three different planets with three different playstyles I would not be concerned of any changes between relation of PvE and PvP. There is no reason to make any changes because different playstyle already has its own playgrounds.

And what it comes to Amazon and New World they did not change the focus entirely for PvE, they more like wanted to combi PvE and PvP together. Also Amazon faced some serious problems during the alpha test phase because of extreme toxic behaviour related to open world full loot PvP. The focus is still in PvP, but not in the hardcore way. I understand this change has caused a lot of negative feedback from hardcore fans behalf but I guess Amazon needed to think of the larger picture and future of the game. In my opinnion it would be the best solution open separated hardcore PvP servers and that way cater also that audience, and if I remember right they might even concider that.

Agreed, these guys deserve good funding, how can one not support the concept this game is brought to the MMORPG genre.

      I feel the same.

@Devs or Marketing team, I am not certain but, I kinda feel like it might have something to do with the advertising or marketing. So we need to spread the word. I even sometimes do that in Albion online. it's funny once I /s to the dead guy in BZ told him " hey there is a game called Fractured where you might do stuff without dying".

      Marketing I think( just Thinking)

There is a lot of stuff devs can do with marketing and also with low expanses. I already started a whole thread related for this matter so I won't go too deep with my comments. Here is few points what marketing could concider in near future:

      • Official videos (at least trailer)
      • More content news
      • More active with communication
      • More active in social media
      • DevBlog

If I understood right, one reason why Znirff was signed, that he will make improvements for marketing strategy, -planning and actual -implementation.

@Manaia said in Concerns related to the attributes:

@Tuoni The stat weights of the attributes follows how dungeons and dragons does it; the higher the value you go the more it costs.

It can be done other way as well. Even if the cost of levels would be 1 and 2 after a certain point it would be much better and then there won't be that wasted point.

With the ability to have multiple characters I don't see why rerolling attributes should be an option, if you're unsure of what to do you can make a more balanced build instead of a min-maxed build for your first character.

Like I already answered for Mudz, this a sandbox game not a themepark were rerolling characters should be a core. Think all the new players who have not tested the game in test phases and how much mistakes they will make at the character creation stage. They do not have the knowledge what would be the best solution or what they will actully end up to do in the game. And if I think this from my personal point of view, lets say I have used most of my points for strenght and constitution, and then I want to reroll for a caster after a year. I am quite sure that I do not want to start a new character just because of that. SBI did this mistake in Albion Online where it was made too hard to change the "class" and role or at least it was behind a long grind. Now they have made a change where you can drain the progression from a spear for example and move that to another weapon. This was a pure quality of life change to prevent players to quit the game because respeccin was made too hard.

@Tuoni I don't think cities are safe zones in Fractured. I believe a player can steal and murder in cities. They just have to be willing to pay for it with karma lose and perhaps the guards delivering them a just death.

I am not sure either how this will be implemented, but..

If players can attack others in towns, what value this will add to the game? I can not find any..

In MMORPGs towns are places where people normally chills, AFKs, crafts, trades, etc. I can already see how these towns are zerged regardeless of some NPC guards. If not for profit, then just for fun and missery. Imho PvP should happen in open world, not absolutly everywhere.

Karma loss happens everywhere so it can be leaved away from this. If pick pocketing is a thing maybe that could happen in towns, but I guess that thievery is more like about looting ko/dead player.

@Roccandil said in Concerns related to the attributes:

The more I play Alpha, the more the attribute system feels out of place (for reasons already described here). I'd consider the following:

      • Use Albion's "you are what you wear" system, such that all gear innately provides attributes.
      • Varying races get an innate multiplier to certain attributes, or just flat bonuses or penalties.
      • Merge attributes into the talent tree system. Maybe even have unique racial talent trees (my favorite option! πŸ™‚ ).

This would be a really good option, and with gear and talent tree nodes players can affect on their characters attributes (positive and negative way). Race modifiers can still be there but at least then the gaps between attributes would be more bearable without extra differencies because of the character creation. At the moment we have a system where the character creation is much closer to themepark than sandbox MMORPG.

    • RE: The End of most Sandbox PVP Games-The losing side.

@Crowdac I found this from Feature Spotlight #6:

"The degree of protection enjoyed by players on Syndesia is location-dependent, and varies according to the laws established by the guild in possession of each town and its surrounding territory. No hostile actions are permitted in Good-aligned towns besides during sieges, while protection outside of city walls depends on the efforts of the sovereign guild or alliance. This includes hiring NPC squads who hunt down and dispossess any player marked by a criminal flag such as Thief or Assassin. Starting towns can’t be conquered, are always Good-aligned, and their territories strictly patrolled."

It seams that what kind of actions can be performed in towns depends of the alignment of that town. Okay, that sounds fair.

@Gibbx said in Concerns related to the attributes:

@Tuoni Thanks for the education for I have never played an RPG before.
Whether you are sitting at a table with a group of friends or playing at your computer the core of any RPG is the party. You are not in it alone.

I though we were speaking of MMORPGs where people use a lot of time to play as a solo as well. If we speak of table top RPGs then of course it is quite hard to play alone but in MMORPGs this happens all the time.

Your PC is never going to be (and shouldn't be) good at everything. Being able to change your PCs attributes because they don't have the correct skills for a given situation is just wrong and contrary to the spirit of the RPG experience. That is all. Out.

Well it can be against roleplaying I guess but in other hand making such restriction is also against the base idea of sandbox. Albion Online is a good example of sandbox MMORPG where you do not even have base attributes, and your class and role are purely determined by armor pieces you wear and weapon(s) you use. I have not seen anyone ever complaining about this system and how it feels bad or breaks immersion from RP point of view. Therefore, the roleplaying aspect in Albion comes from the character progression, and I think the core in Fractured is also in the character progression (talent- and skill trees) rather than in attribute points set in the character creation.

    • RE: Animal taming and breeding.

@Farlander Yes you are kind of right. In D&D there was alignments for animals too, but they have changed that later. Now animals are unaligned, so those are not even neutral.

Maybe basic animals could be all unaligned, because they are unable separate good from evil. However, animals could still use insticts/will, so they can trust more to certain type of alignments and/or races. That was actually my point.

    • RE: Concerns related to the attributes

@Manaia What it comes to this attribute change and why people should even care if players have this chance option, there is only your reason which is not well-grounded at all. This does not surprise though because it is always easy to shout that something is not needed without giving any reasoning beside personal affections.

What it comes to your poll (if you refer to that), yeah I guess the result would not change much at the moment, even your opinion shows a little bit through the questions and how it leads the reader to choose the RPG. πŸ˜‰

Later when the sampling will be much more than 20 people I would be actually surprised if most players prefer RPG over Sandbox (without additional pointers). However, I think that the PvE planet and Beastmen concept appeals especially for RPG oriented players which is one of the reasons why roleplaying aspect is generally kept quite important. Moreover, it is also hard to place RPG and Sandbox against each other because usually themepark is the opponent for sandbox and RPG goes side by side with both of them.

Companions or pets like squires or minstrels would be nice. Maybe squire could actually carry some extra gear pieces for you and minstrel can play different songs. I remember how squire was my most used companion in WoW. Jester would be kind of nice too with different set of tricks and plays.

@Farlander said in Concerns related to the attributes:

Character rebuilds are important for one reason; the game is going to evolve and the mechanics of the game WILL change. With that in mind players initially built their characters based on one set of mechanics and when (not if) those change players should get an opportunity to reevaluate their character and change them if they desire. SWTOR handles this by every huge update that does major reworking of the game you are allowed one free rework of your skill choices (at least they did when I played). This is not unusual, it's available to everyone and is definitely fair (all these proclamations are made IMO).

This is a really good point. Game mechanics will change and balancing problems are constantly "fixed" which leads to change the effectiveness of different builds, perhaps even quite often. Albion Online had this problem and the changes frustrated players a lot because the respeccing was made too hard. Later they have fixed this problem making the respeccing much more easier to complete. Without that fix many players would have been left, even some already did.

@Canterbury said in What albion did wrong- not a bash thread:

I hated the maps in Albion. All really small and tricksy pathing. None of it felt like a big world where I could go anywhere. It felt really really really annoying to get around after the first hour or two.

I have to agree. Almost all layouts of zones are just randomly generated without doing any corrections. You get the feeling that things are just thrown there. This is of course easy solution, but the result also looks like easy made.

@Farlander said in Concerns related to the attributes:

Respecing, if available to everyone, has absolutely no bearing on another player. Since all characters level horizontally no one will have any advantage respecing. It's a courtesy to players to help them make changes on their characters so that they have more fun with their playing experience. It's in the best interests to the devs to keep players around and enjoying the game rather than quit over their main/favorite character no longer being much fun because of the regrets of a poor decision on a choice they made or because the game changes in such a way decisions they made are no longer valid.

I wanted to highlight few points. Having an option to respec attributes does not offer advantage over other players so it does not have negative impacts. Avoiding player frustration is also somethig what developers should taken account when planning QoL things.

    • RE: Real Crafting

There is some other options for item sinks on top of decay:

      • Salvage
      • Research
      • Crafting
      • Repair
      • Loot drops PvE

Possibility to salvage items back to portion of resources is a really effective feature.

There could be research feature, which is used to investigate item to find a crafting recipe or part of it. Item itself will be destroyed in process.

Some finished items could be used as ingredients for other items.

Some items could be used for repairing others.

There could be hardcore PvE content where some mobs/creatures/bosses are lethal and will not just knockdown players, but also tries to execute them. That leads to loot drops and trashed items like in PvP.

Now, to address the "If you don't like it, don't do it" argument...that is a very wrong and shortsighted argument. This is an mmo. EVERY design decision effects everyone. Whether they use it or not. They help shape the meta of every aspect of the game. It is, however, a valid point when discussing single player games.

No, it is actually not. Every design decision may affect on everyone but the effects are usually positive so why would that be a problem. A feature like 'possibility to reroll attributes' will be a huge QoL thing, it does not offer advantage over other players and it prevents player frustration. Everyone has this chance but it is still optional if someone decides not to use that for any reasons. At the moment the reason looks like to be a character identity which is quite small roleplaying feature tbh, everyone can cherish their character's identity if they want to, however, I do not know why anyone should care about other players characters' identities.
