    • RE: NPC Strength

@target I'm assuming the buildings will have a lot to do with the nature of the NPC's you'll have in town - build a gym, and make the npc's go to it, and you'll get tougher npcs. Build a music hall, and maybe they will get more charming, upping your merchants' capacity to generate revenue.

Throw out the least productive 10% every month and they remainder will be awesome! And prone to heart attacks! XD

If you want the town full of non-morons, either build a school, or expel all the kids and hire new villagers every generation! (oh gods, the resumes...the on-boarding...!)

    • RE: Balanced - jack of all trade build

@benseine I am sorry that I wrote Agility, not Dexterity. XD

I'm not sure if any pair of 18s can result in a solid jack - a pair of 18s means a pair of 13s and 12s, too, and I don't particularly know if anyone really want to depend on a 12 as a central stat to a build. The 14 that becomes (with the +2 stat boost off the skill tree), might make it viable, but it's semi-worrisome. And if a character can't use a skill set effectively, I'm not sure they count as a jack.

I'd like to discuss the defensive relation of CON/STR vs. CON/DEX. I find that I can't, having not enough information XD most frustrating, that! XD for example, I don't know if 14 CON/14 STR (cum 16 CON/16 STR) allows a character to wear (close-to) the heaviest armor; I assume it does get you a majority of it, for various reasons, but I can't be certain. Similarly, I can't debate the value of gaining x defense bonus from wearing y armor, versus defense of (y-a) version of it you can wear at -2 strength, when compared to the +z% dodge you gain from putting those 2 points into DEX, instead. Way too many variables to cogently speak to. Maddening, I say! I am most miffed that an intelligent discussion is thus derailed! DEVS! Give us the deets! Thank You! XD

(I'm also not sure why anyone would need to carry an extra set of armor? If a character can't wear it at their minimum stats, they don't want to wear it in the fight, because at some point a player will mis-time their cast of the CON buff, or get counter de-buffed, or lose their buff due to enemy wiping, and if that means the armor pops off (or you get paralyzed, or whatever the penalty ends up being), it's no good XD better to wear what can always be worn, and get the benefit the buff gives on top of that, as opposed to worrying about losing the buff and the armor at the same time at a potentially critical point. Conversely, if the only time the check is made is when you go to put it on, then there is no trouble, cause it's equipped somewhere safe, immediately after buffing, and it's all good. On the third hand, if the armor requirements ignore buffing/de-buffing (because the devs don't want to code armor popping off XD ), then the jack is stuck with the armor of minimum statistics anyways, and there's no better armor to lug)

    • RE: Limited/rare items?

I'd certainly like to see some legendary stuff - maybe not equipment, but decorations or effects could be nifty. Like - first person/team to beat raid boss A gets a special cosmetic aura of said raid boss hulking around as an over form or something, or hanging Grendel's hand in your house's loft because you were the first to complete that questline.

I could also see some interesting options - getting to 50 skill points without hurting a single thing netting you a pacifist's cloak cosmetic option, and maxing out your skill points without killing anyone getting you a pacifist's aura effect.

Or, maybe the best demon (skips the debate on what that means) in a given Eclipse raid gains an aura that involves the demon god hanging about, praising said demon on each kill? Similar idea for the current Arena Champion, and a slightly different (but permanent) one if you defended the title X times before retiring or losing. Maybe give the best Human defender of each Eclipse raid a plaque for their home/wall section, extolling their virtue (and have it upgrade if the Human manages it more than once).

Let's see, what else - doing a friendship questline (or mortal enemy questline on Tartaros) nets a permanent visual thing - Friend of the Fairies gets you a vine wrapped around your upper arm, while Fire Drake Genocide gets you a dragon skull crown of flames over your normal helmet. Limit one to each character? Can be switched out? much internal debate Not exactly exclusive, but really easy to foul-up in someway that permanently locks you out of it? Like, during the Fire Drake example, you can't let any drake escape for the whole duration, and there are a number of flame newts that may appear, and those try to run immediately? nothing that interferes with the quest, just with getting the new hotness XD

I dunno. depends on how exclusive, and how guide-dang-it you want them to be.

(I remember reading a manga [yeah yeah, weeb], with a family playing an MMO - one character got an exclusive scarf for never attacking a certain type of enemy, and then pleasing the ruler of said enemy type with an exceptional food offering. Has a limit (can never attack that enemy type or it breaks) but permanently renders that enemy type passive around the wearer, so if you need to kill x enemies to get through a door, and it's a room full of that enemy type? auto-cleared. It was handy, but they had to miss out on the materials those enemies dropped, and couldn't get experience for killing said enemies. )

I’m happy to hear ur guys ability ideas here’s mine

I’d like to see a ability that makes you look like another race so for an example a demon could use it to look like a human or maybe even let’s you look like an npc or pve mob

I'd be interested in this as a way to move through a town or a foriegn planet safely. you lose it if you attack or are attacked, but it has uses for both vacations and spying.

    • RE: Ability Ideas?

As a generic, non-skill ability, HMMM - I'd like to see an emote for stage magic/juggling/"talent" of some sort. and have it reactive. So - if your current skill set has 5 ice magic skills, and 3 rogue skills, you pull snowballs out of your sleeves and juggle them, with ice tracery. If you are a Warfare heavy skill build, you display everything in your inventory, and lift it all over your head in a show of strength. Bards play music, duh - but if you have 4 illusion skills as well, you spawn mirror copies that dance while you play. that sort of thing.

Few high level guards should be able to see through your disguise though, so you would still have to pay attention to your surroundings and navigate around those guards.

Perhaps some player skills (perception based) could also allow players to see through disguises.

I could go for this! XD though, if such are around, it would probably warrant a small warning message. Like "Someone is piercing your disguise" and you've got a few seconds to gtfo away from their gaze or they see through it. Nothing big - you are supposed to be paying attention, after all, but a small alternative to "oh hi person and I am skewered why?!"

    • RE: what do you like to see next from the developers?

@gothix There is also a god of intellect slated, which makes the suggested atheist bonus a little awkward.

While I have no opinion on the matter of including atheists, I might instead suggest that these rugged individuals, who ask for no help from the deities, receive a bonus to resisting ailments - a life spent fending for yourself makes you hearty, vigorous, and unlikely to fall to natural maladies and inflicted mesmerism?

You bow your head to noone, not even "gods". Your personality is strong and you see every living being as equal. There are no "gods" just a different species perhaps more advanced ones but none more valuable than other. None that deserves being bowed to.

And then you take up divination to talk shit.

I could entirely see Gothix taking divination explicitly to trash talk deities. not sure that would be a wise action, but I could see them doing it XD

given that there is a hawk, the devs already have the skeleton, rigging, and animations, so something that iconic ought to show up pretty quickly, if it isn't already in the works.

    • RE: Importance of attributes triggering repetition?

@needlehawk I sort of hope that there is an active interface on the point distribution - something that lists Malus effects if they are in play, maybe an example of three skills (which the player can look at and cycle through) showing the effects of what the current stat array does in those terms - accuracy based on Perception, for example, so if you slide your Perception bar down, you can see how that affects the accuracy - and either lock them, so you can make comparisons, or let them "ride," which adjusts them to match some of the skills that the game is actually going to give you to start, based on your stats at the moment - remember, the game is going to assign at least some skills so you can't bork yourself at the start into non-viablity.

@genobee yup. if you compartmentalize and static define "tiles" with "reactions" then the expense of calculation and transmission drop off dramatically. want to freeze a "tile" of water? easy enough. The difficulty with the initial example is that it was a high particle voxel representation - awesome to do, but several orders of magnitude more than most mmos can handle reasonably (to be clear, I would enjoy seeing something like that, eventually - it's just not going to happen this game)

@alcriblp well, I've played Eternal Darkness, so, yeah, if you want drugs in a video game, expect some truly trippy things to happen XD I wouldn't mind that, actually. OD on something and the game acts like it's formatting your hard drive, or "turns off" your monitor, or disconnected your keyboard as critters close in XD all sorts of nasty mind screw stuff cause you tripped to hard on shrooms XD

    • RE: Just a(some) quick question(s).

@jetah because I need 50 minna bird feathers, My skills are 90% ground-based attacks, so I have trouble killing the flighty jerks, and, besides, I need to go mine for the other ingredients for this Quetzal armor, and I don't want to waste time shouting "I need someone to kill a lot of Boids! anyone want to do this?!" for 5 hours and being entirely ignored. So I'm willing to pay some rando to go do this thing for me, okay?!

      XD

Or maybe the town needs 500 Wolf pelts to upgrade a curtain wall, and no one wants to hunt all 500, so you set up a quest, put in the total reward in escrow, and anyone who wants to off-load a pelt can through the interface and get the reward without having to drag the mayor/merchant/town rep out to pay for it, assuming they are even online atm.

Or you're a merchant character, and you need some bodyguards because the eclipse is coming, and you've got a warehouse on Syn, and losing all your goods to a demon raid cause you were in the wrong place at the wrong time sucks.

Or your guild is going to siege a town, and you need to keep the allied town busy, so you quest up a merc raid to hold the second town at bay while you go murder hobo the first.

And, most pressingly, there aren't many NPCs (at least, not until a town attracts them), so being able to hand each other quests fills a need and acts as a general lubricant for the economic engine.

Good luck going to Tartaros and not getting engaged. 🙂

@Jetah @tulukaruk Okay, true XD but I don't expect there to be more than 10-20 (and maybe a couple dailies?) of those, per god, and you can't really do more than one god. Fewer than Warcraft's starter regions, in essence XD So, yes, while those will exist, they aren't exactly substantial?

      @therippyone said in Just a(some) quick question(s).:

@jetah Sure, but whose going to hand them out? short of the 6 gods literally showing up and saying "Here's how to walk!" I don't currently see where we're getting the npcs to issue the quests. I mean, we could start out with just random text boxes offering to explain stuff, but it just feels weird?

As to limited abilities - we're all supposed to start with a combat ready selection of skills, in theory, since the dev's are assigning them by preset, last I heard. Given that, I sort of doubt that there'd be a "beginner's area" per say, unless it's on an instanced asteroid for that purpose.

If you are recognized by the gods then good for them stepping out to acknowledge you. I’d be perfectly OK for that to happen!

The spotlight covers this saying there are small starting areas that are free from PvP. Demons have Nest and I’m not sure what the others are.

Ah - I missed that - thanks for pointing it out!

@tulukaruk true. conversely, I hope we get more than 5 options for human skin tones - I'm tired of being told I'm either light pink, vaguely yellow, peach, light brown, or dark brown. Even if you want to keep it "realistic" there are more option on that gradient line, thank you very much XD

Also, humans tend to go in for dye jobs, even if it's weird - I mean, look at woad - Ancient celts be like "We've got this funky paste that's itchy, lumpy, and blue; what do we do with it?" smash cut They're covered in it "Radical"
