I agree, in a sandbox game gear shouldn't be obtained with killing monsters, it should be only craftable.

I agree consumeables should only be usable from the skillbar. So you have to build it up viable for the things you want to do, i believe that's the whole point of switching your loadout fast at a campfire too.
