There are no levels in the game and yes, you get knowledge points from gathering too. Well, for the first time you harvest something. Not like you get some knowledge points from each mob you kill. But you do get some experience harvesting. Hopefully you will be able to put those points into a tech tree to improve your gathering/crafting and not just buy skills with them.
