    • RE: More than 8 abilities if beastkin, still truth?

      @asspirin said in More than 8 abilities if beastkin, still truth?:

      If shapeshifting would follow same rules as mounting, beastmen would either not need mounting or the shapeshifting. Lets leave it as it is, but make sure its balanced.

      This is not entirely true. Even if shapeshifting has the same rules as mounting, there are situations in which it is preferable: for example, you probably wouldn't be able to mount in a dungeon, but you could shapeshift. If you just got out of a disastrous zvz and the in-combat timer run out, you can immediately shapeshift and run instead of waiting for mount summon. When dismounting, you should have CD on all the skills, which shouldn't be the case when shapeshifting. You can be dismounted, but nobody can force your shapeshifting. When doing trade runs / transports / protecting caravans, your objective will ride on high carrying capacity, but slow mounts. On foot you're too slow, mounted you'll have CD when dismounting to fight the enemy, so shapeshifting might be perfect here -> fast enough to keep up with the caravan and you can run into zvz right away if attacked. Plus, from what I read, some of their abilities are good at initiating fights.

      @Razvan It's been stated that they will be slower than a mount - if I am not mistaken - and the beastfolk will still primarily use mounts to move around fast.

      Furries can still use mounts and to my understanding, they only lose the passives outside Arboreus. As long as these transformations don't respect the mounting rules and can be used in pvp, it's important to talk about balance, and right now they are absolutely broken in ganking/evading.

      It still doesn't change the fact that only one race gets access to these transformations, which isn't fair in a game with ganking. Imagine this:
      scenario #1: 4 furries on human planet ganking a neutral human -> the human can't escape them because he doesn't have the speed buff
      scenario #2: 4 humans ganking a furry on human planet -> after finally dismounting him, the beast uses his transformation and runs away. Humans now can't catch up because they have the mounting restrictions.

      In the end, it has the same advantages as a free mount and it should have the same rules as mounting.

      The way I understand it, shapeshifting = basically a free mount. In that regard, it should have the same restrictions as mounting and dismounting, because otherwise they are ungankable.

    • RE: Arborian or Arborean?

      @Roccandil said in Arborian or Arborean?:

      "Hairless bipeds" is (as I recall) a quote from Screwtape Letters, so it's actually a demon's-eye view of humans.

      Could also be a reference to Plato's definition of human as a "featherless biped". It became famous because Diogenes plucked a chicken to prove that the definition is stupid, since that would be a featherless biped as well. Only in this case he used "hairless" instead of "featherless" because furry don't have feathers.

      Anyway, my bet is that humans will be simply called humans, demons will be called demons and those from arboreus will be called furries. In general, whoever has negative karma, regardless of race, will be called "red".

    • RE: Is there planned any "CD reduction" in case of spell saved?

      @asspirin
      Yes, but I mean, being able to bring multiple weapons and switch between them defeats the purpose of abilities being tied to weapons. Right now you can bring a tank weapon for initiation and after the enemies are pulled and CC'ed, you can switch to a dps melee weapon and hack them. It takes away from the purpose of zvz being about team coordination.

      @Gothix
      Having an mdps able to aoe pull, stun and damage the enemies is utterly OP, I agree with you. That's why, ideally, skills should be tied to the weapon: hammer/mace get aoe CC and tanky skills, 2h axe/spear get aoe damage, knife gets big single target damage. This way you can also tell what the enemy is capable of doing before engaging them. The ability to have 3 weapons equipped defeats this. Once the tests will focus on combat balance, they will have to do some compromises.

      Interesting read. There are quite a few people with writing talent active on this forum. It would be awesome if some lore would be community-founded. On the side note, we don't have enough evil deities.

      I know that a few months ago it was increased from 200 to 250, and I'm asking if they plan to go beyond 250 with the rewards.
      If the max level that gives rewards will remain at 250, I would like to opt-out of being selected in this raffle to give newer active members a better chance to win the points. However, if they plan to increase it to 500, then I'll need the points as well.

      Thanks, but will the foundation level go beyond 250? Because if the answer is no, maybe those of us who reached the max level already can opt-out, so newer active members have a better chance at winning these points.

      @grofire
      What I meant is: since you can't build top tier facilities on your hermit plot, it makes more sense to resort to economic activities that don't require those buildings if you plan to live in the wild.

      Your question focuses on why you can't build top tier facilities on plots outside towns. I don't have a good reason, but I think the devs answer is that they want to make town plots more attractive since that's where all the focus will be.

      I am actually more concerned about melee damage dealers and how they will perform in ZvZ fights. There are few things which might cause some serious balance issues between melee and ranged, friendly fire and player collision.

      That's actually a very good point I haven't thought about. This is more interesting when you weight in that evil characters have FF on, while neutral+ characters don't. I hope they rethink this.

      I think the point is that you can't build top tier crafting facilities on your hermit plot, but you can still use the town crafting facilities (built by others) for a fee. In that regard, as a hermit, it makes more sense to focus on agriculture, husbandry, or refining on your plot.

    • RE: City Claiming Has Launched

      Then the first 1-2 months it would be quite awkward because usually there's a lot of hype when a new game launches, but lots of these new players quit after a few weeks, which will leave ghost towns until their houses turn to ruins.

      To be fair, it's not only about roleplay. For example, if you want to minmax a nuker, you'd probably pick deer-kin, since they have the best stats distribution.

      @Logain
      I would like to hear your argument as to why should there be a balance between gaining and losing karma.

      The whole point of the system is to tell people: you're allowed to do negative actions (force pvp on others and steal their stuff), but you'll be penalized for that. To my understanding, the planet we can live on depends on our alignments. If we gain the same amount of karma in 2h of farming as we get from 2h of ganking, then the human planet is kind of pointless.

    • RE: Is there planned any "CD reduction" in case of spell saved?

      One thing we should consider is that different classes are good in different scenarios. For example, single-target melee DPS are good in small scale pvp, but cannot compete with aoe mages in farming or zvz. These being said, I don't think aoe mages should be able to handle dagger users 1v1.
      Besides, the good thing about this game is that you are less restricted to a class and more to a class group. For example, a mage who plans to go solo, can pick a skillshot-heavy loadout. A dagger user who plans to join zvz, can pick, depending on their stats, either a frontline (mdps) or a backline (archer) loadout.

      Regardless of either you find ganking fun or not, in all the games I played so far it's a lot faster to change karma that way than doing quests or farming.

      Usually, it is a lot easier/faster to lose karma than to gain it. Neutral+ characters can roam with a group on the human planet and gank anyone they see.
