      Writing is not everyone's cup of tea, and the fact we're an Italian company really doesn't help because you know, English 😉 Of course when I write a Feature Spotlight I start from already written docs - design docs, from our lovely lead designer! However, from there to an article there's still a lot of work to do.

      Are you entitled for (and did you try to get a spot in) the free benefits of the SpatialOS indie program (I don't recall the name right now)? Not actual funds as such, but at least helps to reduce the cost!

      We'll be officially once we have our first Alpha build ready, but we're bearing no cost from SpatialOS right now anyway! What we really need are the "actual funds" eheh 😉

      @Jetah once we decided to postpone the campaign, we started preparing and recording new material, got new marketing campaigns running, and plenty more. There's really a lot going on behind the scenes which is not directly related to the Kickstarter page / video.

      Anyway, the biggest reason we decided not to publish Tartaros is that we really don't have much to show there. We've made it clear since November that our focus for Alpha 1 is Syndesia, and we suffered some unexpected backlash when we released the Arboreus clip and some people were expecting more spells / equip variety / etc. Hence it's better to just have the Tartaros content in the KS video and that's it.

      @Vengu as @chrightt pointed out, the Knowledge System already covers the role of an achievement system in a way. We might implement a few proper Steam Achievements if we end up distributing through Steam as well - but it's definitely not a priority right now.

      Hi everyone! Following the success of the first thread, here we are asking you again some little translation help 😉

      The languages to translate to are the same as last time:

      • Spanish
      • (Brazilian) Portuguese
      • French
      • German
      • Russian
      • Polish

      Below you can find the texts that we need to translate - it's only a couple!


      • The long wait is over: Fractured has just gone live on Kickstarter - and it's already a Featured project! Join the revolution!
      • Straight to Featured status. Over $100.000 collected. 100% funded in 10 days. The sandbox MMO revolution is gaining traction - join it now!
      • The first open-world sandbox MMO-ARPG appealing equally to lovers of competitive and cooperative gameplay.

      Translations are a bit tricky here - particularly how to translate "featured", which refers to Fractured having been picked as "project we love" by Kickstarter and being shown on the homepage (yes - this happened barely 3 hours after launch!). The idiomatic sentence "gaining traction" is also probably a little tricky. Be careful when you translate! 🙂

      Note: the numbers in the second AD text are random of course.

      The questions in this thread are fairly broad so let's start with this.

      Roles depend on the type of game being made, but the most common roles are:

      • Project manager
      • Producer
      • 3D artist (could be specialized in environment, characters, hard surface, organic modelling, etc)
      • 2D artist (could be specialized in concept art, illustrations, etc)
      • Animator
      • VFX artist
      • Developer (could be front-end, back-end, full-stack, etc)
      • Game designer (there are so many roles here too, from the guy with the "big ideas" to writers, level designers, game balancing specialists, etc)

      These are the main figures required in a team, but a game studio often employs several others (who might work cross-team or just for a single team):

      • Social media manager
      • Community manager
      • Marketing manager
      • System administrator
      • ...and plenty more!

      That depends on the type of game - but could be generalized to other products really. If the development of the game continues after release (as it happens for what we're doing - an MMO), you'll likely keep working on it. If not, you might be assigned to another team.

      @prometheus I pledge already but people that I talked to, says that the game look generic from the videos, so they just want to wait, maybe show the difference? Maybe more PVP and skills? Something splashy, that will give the WOW effect.

      Our focus for Alpha 1 is not on combat, so that's not possible. We would have had to develop too much purely promotional content rather than the actual game...

      #1 - The handling of the Black Bull/Finland situation, and an obvious cheater/admitted hacker not being dealt with swiftly. It's not even him or his guild per se, but the fact that someone can admit to hacking, and cheating a system, and not instantly be dealt with is unforgiveable. These games don't survive when people are allowed to hack. Banning him and his guild should have been your immediate instinct,

      Banning a whole guild for the actions of one makes no sense whatsoever. And the reason we're taking it slow is because we're really busy with the campaign and The Foundation is not the game. If it was an in-game rule violation or exploit we'd hit swift and hard. Now the "dishonest player" (I wouldn't call it "cheater") is not damaging anyone besides his own chances to be selected for the pre-alpha.

      UPDATE: resolved.

      As of today, they're fixed - what's not set it stone is them being fixed forever 😉 Besides that, they're no different from "normal" abilities: some scale with attributes, some don't, some require stamina, some mana, some nothing at all 🙂

      Mining and crafting are not technically "abilities", they're professions - within them you have different abilities (say, crafting the item X or extracting the material Y). Most of those won't be available when in primal form: the Beastman turns into a real 4-legged beast, and that's something that is meant to be used in combat mostly.

    • Community Call - YouTubers You Know

      Hi everyone!

      In order to get our Kickstarter campaign to a successful end, we need to increase its visibility - that's quite clear at this point.

      To do so, we'd like to reach out to YouTubers and other content creators focused on MMOs (or who could be interested in covering a game like Fractured anyway). We know of some, but there's probably a ton more we never heard about that you instead know.

      So, here's the help request.

      • If you know any YouTuber (blogger, journalist...) that you consider a good fit to cover Fractured, please leave a message here with a link to his/her channel / blog / space.
      • If you know of any other place where Fractured could be promoted, such as gaming communities, large clans, guilds, and organizations, please let us know by linking to them too.

      Please don't post links to very small channels, communities, etc, which would be of very little use. For instance, a YouTube channel should have at least 2,000 subscribers I'd say, unless it's a total perfect fit for us (like one specialized in sandbox MMOs) 🙂

      @Meangroundhog seasons will be a thing, yes, and they'll impact agriculture on top of other areas of gameplay (such as travelling). In general, the whole weather / climate system is very important in Fractured - in the case of agriculture, it means some plants will only grow in specific planets, specific regions, and times of the year.

      We'll have a feature spotlight dedicated to farming in the future, so stay tuned! :slight_smile:

      We'll definitely have plants in players' farms that take a while to mature (up to several days), but obviously we're going to take some liberties with times - we're not building a farming simulator here 😄

      @Jetah we have a huge website update in store - once we roll it out, there will be more info about us too. Anyway, we're a young team - some us were involved in the development of the indie MMORPG Linkrealms, others in games of very different genres.

      No, there's no "industry legend" among us - that's why we're going to fill this expected "trust gap" by showing you actual MMO gameplay before Kickstarter rather than only concept art, screenshots, short clip of characters walking in a nice environment, and the like 😉
