    • RE: Pledge Packs Are Going... With A Sale!

      @Jetah

      That really isn’t comparable, at all haha. These aren’t physical items that have been on sale for awhile. The thing about physical merchant sales is the fact that things have been iterated on, and newer, better items become available. Thus, the old items get marked down to get them moved. If Dynamight followed that model, I’d be EXTREMELY worried, not just slightly perturbed.

      If I need to clarify, this would be like Dynamight creating newer, better packs than those from the Kickstarter and then knocking down the prices for the Kickstarter packs permanently, until they are sold out. However, the Kickstarter packs are digital so they can’t sell out... might as well leave them up forever, eh?

      Steam has a similar problem, minus the physicality of the item of course. Steams has production/released games. Bringing up early access isn’t valid either, that’s still “release” in my book.

      And the most important factor? Neither steam nor target are crowdfunded sources. We (or I) backed the Kickstarter in full confidence that I would be treated fairly and newcomers would not be given a better deal that I cannot take advantage of for my tier.

      @Bailey
      It really is, I’m pretty used to these cash grab tactics from developers by now. The two that hurt me the most is star citizen, and now fractured. I’m still interested in both games, but... it’s different after something like this. Thankfully novaquark has held true so far with dual universe, there is yet hope!

      Yep, me too. It's different though, and you never know how it will turn out until you have a product in your hand.

      Thankfully, Fractured probably doesn't need some crazy technology innovations to get it in our hands. All innovations are purely from a design perspective. IIRC. To make a great game, you don't need to punch through technological crazy barriers. Cough

      I'm sure there are hurdles to overcome, but hopefully nothing "too" crazy on that side of things.

      It’s also important to note that Fractured will probably be buy to play. That can always change, but that’s the plan at the moment IIRC

      Strongly agree. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable complaint at all (obviously). I’m totally fine with people being okay with it. But there IS ground for a complaint, and for some it’s a big deal.

      @gothix
      I don't think the issue is avoiding PvP, but rather avoiding a game where it's all about who has the largest organization.

      I've always liked PvP, but it also always seems to be about who has the most numbers. Leads to pretty boring gameplay imho. If I'm roaming around with a pack of 10, it's likely nothing less than 5 will be a threat. Etc.

      Edit: I suppose I should clarify. Obviously territory control and such should be all organization play. However, it seems like standard PvP also gets lumped in as well.

      @Gothix
      Is EVE pay to win?

      The thing about paying for gold in games like these is the endgame isn't really "purchase-able". Some guy isn't going to drop $100,000 to "maybe" retain ownership of a town for a month.

      Most of the purchasing is done by the little guys who don't have strong backing by some mega corporation and don't have time to farm in game.

      “Paying for gold” is rarely benificial to those that actually have the power to “win”

      Just my 2c from an old player of EVE. That’s also assuming we adhere to the fact that paying for gold is even considered paying to win, which I do not. I consider pay to win to be where people buy things not obtainable in game.

      In fact, allowing players to purchase premium game time from other players for gold gets RID of pay to win ;). And that’s assuming we are considering the premium to be pay to win... which I don’t. Bunch of assumptions eh? Gotta love pay2win arguments

      I really said I was done, and I’m sorry for that. I think I am after this 😉

      However, I did need to point out that ships in SC never go on discounted sales.

      Every single sale you talk about are on the digital game itself, not Kickstarter assets. Acting like they are the same is just silly hehe

      @target

      The randomness is great and all, but we really need a large variety of mobs to make them enjoyable. IMHO, of course.

      The fact that some attacks/spells impact the "environment" around you, I think boss fights could be quite fun here 😜

    • RE: How Friendly will this game be to casual players

      @Crowdac
      You don't even have to be a masochist to be a casual demon.

      The whole point of the gearing system (from what I can gather) is that it is relatively easy to craft gear and there isn't really a "tiered" system. They've gone for a system for easy replaceability for weaponry. So if you're a casual PvPer, I think fractured is perfect for you. There will most likely not be god-tiered weaponry that takes ages to acquire, and if you don't have it... you're SOL.

      The real "hardcare" nature of tartaros is land control (imho of course). My assumption is that there are obviously protections in place for the beastmen on their land ownership, and I believe there has been talk of single land ownership being protected for humans. Even so, I imagine towns will have some form of game mechanic that will control the stages of a siege/takeover/etc. Demons on the other hand... I imagine there will be very few mechanics that protect your settlements.

      It's hard to say at this time of course, but considering how replaceable equipment is supposed to be, I don't think the PvP in Fractured is inherently hardcore. It's what you want to accomplish with that PvP that truly matters.

      @Jetah

      Warbond is never sold on old ships. Star citizen has a wonky business model, but they never completely shaft their Kickstarter backers.

      Putting new items in the mix is completely okay with me, which is what that insurance seems to be doing. Think of it like Dynamight adding contractor months to the packs... again, would have been fine with that. The other cool thing about star citizen is that old backers can melt their packs, and get the same exact benefits as the newbros, so all of your arguments are moot really.

      Literally everything you just said was either wrong, or misconstrued in order to back your position. Interesting.

      Edit:
      Don’t get me wrong CIG has conducted predatory tactics, but they’ve never completely shafted the kickstarter packages which is the crux of the matter here.

    • Spatial OS/Unity

      Is this a problem for Fractured? I just know that Fractured uses SpatialOS and Unity... not really sure of the implications. Just curious if anyone has more information:

      https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/01/unity-engine-tos-change-makes-cloud-based-spatialos-games-illegal/

      Although, I imagine it wouldn't go into affect until new contracts? Doesn't seem like that's the case by the wording of the article...

      @chrightt

      I absolutely have to agree here. Many of these novel ideas sound absolutely phenomenal on paper. But I’ll really need to see them in action before I can say “this is a [insert game here] killer”. Doing so already really seems to be putting the cart before the horse 😜

      I have faith we will get a great game, it’s why I backed it. But I definitely won’t put on rose colored glasses.

      @Gothix

      What direct benefits can a player get by buying gold that a player in the game can not achieve? Just curious.

      Is that how you define P2W? Just curious. 😉 P2W as a concept is not a black and white matter. People have own opinnions and how they feel what is p2w and what is not. Its more about how people experiences it. P2W does not need to be advantage what you can buy only with real money. It can also be something which progress you faster than others and that way you take the advantage. It is true that those who progress normal pace without help of real money are eventually getting there where this spender was, but when they get to that point, that spender is already way more further. That is why its easy to argue, that paying for faster progression is also P2W. At least we are that point in somewhere grey area depending of the degree of benefits ofc.

      By that definition premium is pay to win. How do you eliminate that p2w? Implementing a method for players to purchase premium by in game means. How do you do that? Implement tokens that a player can buy for $$ that represent premium time. Then allow players to trade these items. It’s a classic case of eliminating p2w, if we go by your definition. I know I’ve said that before, but this all seems to be going in a circle 😉

      Fishy business models, as you state, are implementing loot boxes, enchantment stones, RNG and so forth. People rarely kick and scream when you can purchase premium time via in game currency.

      At the end of the day, I want people to get the same advantage as me if they put time and effort into the game. I paid for a lifetime subscription, but others should reap the same benefits without spending $$ if they put in the effort.

      A lot of OPs other concerns don’t really seem to have relevance here. Dull combat... I don’t think fractured will be dull by any means. Heck, we have abilities that impact the environment around us. The reputation system for Fractured has a lot of documentation, and it’s one thing that has drawn a lot of people.

    • RE: Developer updates regarding game status?

      @Tuoni

      I actually think it’s detrimental to release too much upfront. Sure, it’s important to cater to your current followers. However, when you start making more community content... there’s inherently more outreach. There’s a time and place for that imho. And I don’t think the pre-alpha is it unfortunately. The game is going to take 2+ years to make (and that’s on the current plan). The Kickstarter was merely a year ago (not even).

      Although more videos would be great, it takes longer to develop content than it does document/video it. If they start putting out more content, eventually they’ll hit a drought of new stuff. It’s a bad example, but star citizen ran into that issue where 2016/2017 was the year of dead content. So did dual Universe a little bit.

      So the issue becomes: do we release more videos now, and potentially run out of content to divulge later (thus causing stagnation in what people are used to) or, do you release it in pre-defined phases that corresponds to your development plan. Another issue with star citizen is they started making videos about promises when they ran out of content to talk about it. So now they have so much more to deliver than their already ambitious progress, because of the promises they’ve made.

      Sure they can go back on their word without it being too much of a fuss, but they’re obviously going to try and accomplish their word.

      Rambled a bit, but I think my points are somewhere in there

    • RE: Skeletons

      @Tuoni

      I have a few suggestions that may touch on those issues.

      Perhaps being a skeleton isn’t a permanent race that you play. In fact, maybe you can be a skeletal beast man, human, or demon. Perhaps becoming a skeleton is a direct relation to the game world.

      For example, there could be a really tough boss on each of the worlds such that when you are killed by this boss you become a skeleton for a certain duration. Skeletons would be by and large detrimental, lower intelligence, easier to cripple, but perhaps they could have a few buffs. Less impact from the environment, no need to eat, etc

      I’d really love to see the old school mechanic of certain impacts that occur if you are defeated by certain bosses.

      Edit:
      Heck, it could even be tied to an asteroid. If you die on this asteroid, you become a skeleton for a duration. That would be pretty cool too 🙂
