      @Jetah said

we all know if it isn't added at launch then it'll never be added. i dont see why accessibility has to wait till after release.

I'd beg to differ. I don't mean to be argumentative, Big J, I just don't know that, since I've seen lots of things amended as games evolve.

I'm hopeful that the devs, as they get their basic game ready for launch, will endeavor not to place any obstacles in the way of accessibility - no matter what the %age of persons using those options - simply because it's the right thing to do.

If there are minimal obstacles to accessibility at launch, only the severely disabled will be excluded. Mr. Blind Gamer may be able to play using the game as is. I don't know what MBG's needs actually are. Future upgrades could easily add accessibility features or any other features the devs decide they want to add.

What would stop that from happening? I don't consider pure venality to be the default position, so I can't see the point of assuming that's the case.

I still think it would be way too big investment, for something like this to be done pre-release.

If game is successful enough, alongside the upgrades later on, part by part, sure.

+1 👍 This is exactly the kind of aspirational update that's great to have on the devs' radar, so the development trajectory can avoid putting in obstacles.

Even if it's not financially justifiable to make these features available in alpha/beta, there are decisions being made now that can make the features needed by folks who are blind/deaf/etc either easier or harder to deploy in the long run. So thanks for raising the question even if it doesn't end up being part of the initial release.

    • RE: Alpha 2 new info, what has made you excited?!

So many ideas getting flesh on them is exciting for me. Alpha 1 was about basic mechanics and UI - things that will look a lot like many other mmorpgs to someone who hasn't read the wiki or faq. Alpha 2 is about making some of what makes Fractured different manifest.

I won an alpha key for 1.2, but wasn't able to get into the game world bc of UI issues. It was discouraging, so I haven't been pushing to try to win another key for Alpha 2.1. I figured I'd let them sort out all that and join in the beta I paid for.

Now the blog post the devs sent out is tempting me to try again. I posted that update on the GOTA refugee fb page where I recruited 11 others. We'll see if they're tempted too...

      @Xeeter said in worth it?:

Gimme the deet's, should i pay or should i say nay? not a huge fan of alpha/beta/EA but this game looks intriguing.

The big question is, does the dev's goal of creating an mmorpg that doesn't depend on P2W and grind make you happy enough to kick in some $$ and support that goal? The game may never reach the market - Jesus could return, global climate catastrophe or nuclear war could undo everyone's plans - life is uncertain, that's for sure!

I'm not a rich person. I work part time at my local library and live very simply. I invested in this game because I want there to be a game like this - where I don't have to be rich to be strong, and where I can enjoy PvE without being called nasty names - SO MUCH it's worth every penny to me. What's that worth to you?

@Relsanct - the news about game development isn't as up to date as it might be bc the devs are busy working instead of posting updates 😉 but players have posted videos of the last test, which was Alpha 1.2. This link goes to the FAQ re playtesting: https://fracturedmmo.com/faq/faq-playtesting/

      again 👍 👍

I esp like the idea of a 'laws checklist' that simplifies setting up a town's constitution and enables players to avoid reinventing the wheel - but that checklist would need to be pretty exhaustive AND open to input from player community.

ooooh! a dangerous path! or... a road less traveled?
SO many options to choose from if what I want is a P2W MMORPG with giant whales running everything. Wondering whether entering a market with so many options already might be more dangerous than carving out a niche where no devs have gone before....

    • RE: Alpha 2

@Farlander I actually preferred the 2D graphics choice made by Game of Thrones - Ascent - quicker load, less lag, less space on my computer taken up, more chance to use my imagination.

I grok the immersive appeal of a 3D mmorpg - I'm actually looking forward to playing in 3d again - but wanted to point out that the assumption about "graduating" from 2D to 3D is, perhaps, on shaky ground. 2D or 3D is a choice developers still make, and either way the devs go has benefits and drawbacks for development and for playing experience. 🖖

I personally love the way you guys have handled your Foundation system.
Very inviting and easy to use.
I'm really looking forward to seeing where this all leads in the next year!

+1 on that! I've played several RPG & RTS games, and lurked in their forums to gain game info w/o ever really participating. I didn't participate bc P2W game set-up ensured that forum regulars (aside from moderators) were mostly whales who'd sunk big buxs and felt entitled to scream bloody murder when something happened that didn't suit them. 💩 🤦‍♀️
Gathering a constructive community around a game like this is a huge accomplishment, and I believe that the Foundation system is part of how that's happened. I'm truly pleased to be part of this forum. 🖖 🍻

Ok, I watched the video. Unless I've missed something really crucial, Fractured's knowledge system doesn't allow for this kind of imbalance.

As I understand it, a Fractured PC doesn't gain stat or hit points as they progress - they can have more stuff, & know more spells, but they can only have a certain number of spells hot-keyed. They can craft wicked kewl weapons/armor or arcane tomes/potions but that takes time and real effort. Or am I completely misunderstanding the basic premise?

    • RE: Alpha 2

In Game of Thrones Ascent the game I started playing about one year after launch ran fairly well, but was a very basic builder/RPG. What I loved was the excellent graphics and creative content - story lines for each house were really cool.

When I'd been playing for awhile, and gotten through a few incarnations to get house buffs, they rolled out the Alliance v Alliance system. It was very buggy but and at first I was hella confused but after about 6 months it was the best part of the game. Once they got that situated they rolled out another type of game w/in game that I didn't find as interesting but many people enjoyed.

Not sure how this idea of incremental feature roll-outs might be translated to a sandbox MMORPG, but I would give the devs permission not to have every single thing nailed down before launch. Get the basic thing ready and polished; if there are features that can be introduced later (e.g., player in-game auction house, wandering NPC crafting material vendors) no one will hate you for giving them MORE.

    • RE: Requisite for casting magic

@Farlander said in Requisite for casting magic:

Usually magical attacks do alot more damage in games than physical attacks that I have played. That is why there are certain restrictions such as what armor you can wear, what weapons you can wield (if any), cooldowns between casts, not being able to move while casting....It's all about having a decent balance with all forms of combat. Every game I have seen eventually some form filters toward the top as everyone starts to play that style. Then the nerf hammer comes and rebalances lol. Mix pvp and pve and now you have a whole new balance issue. It always seems to be a vicious cycle of balancing.

This is astute and important. Also, I love the mental image of the nerf hammer. 🔨 🤓

When I picture my Wolfling, I don't visualize her depending on majik for personal safety, but I hope she'll be proficient in some protective spells that a wise elder would not want to leave home without, e.g., 'light/torch', 'translate', ''secure knot', 'spider-climb', & 'charm'. No weapons involved, but any of these might save her life.

    • RE: Bardikens' Compendium of Suggestions Part 2: Logistics/Economy

ooooh! this is giving me lots of ideas. My Beastling Pack guild might decide to specialize in helping players move their goods safely across Arboreus. Humans from off-world might not know the mobs as well as we will, and a mix of beastling PCs could ensure that there were talents to meet every need. That would allow for the joy of travel, PvE adventures, and a bit of the hauled goods to live on. Sounds like way more fun to me than trying to build a city. 😁
