      I haven't played too many 3d MMORPGs, but the games I've played have uniformly featured 'blips' on the mini-map that let a player know where they were relative to other players & mobs w/in a certain range. This being an alpha, I'm not gonna whine about that not being ready yet, but it definitely will help a lot when it's ready.

      I wanted to try out the 'social' features a couple of days ago and found a newbie in starter town who was happy to 'party' up and get my help with tutorial quests and house-building. We both had some trouble staying w/in sight-line of each other, and the party chat had some glitches, so it was challenging. I'm guessing others have already put in bug tickets on the chat issue but looking fwd to being able to locate my pals - in my head, I justify this by saying they have walkie-talkies 😉

      The degree to which a player is able to 'see' mobs might be connected to knowledge or (as in DDO) just available within a certain range based on 'perception'

      I'm not going to comment on the feasibility/desirability of the OP - y'all are doing a great job discussing that and the various strategies are fascinating.

      What I want to inject into the conversation is my desire for a way to learn about mobs w/o killing them. I don't have a problem w killing a deer for meat, or even for a head to make a helmet out of - but killing a whole bunch of ANYTHING strictly for 'information' and leaving the piles of corpses unlooted bc I already have plenty of meat or hide feels horrible & wasteful.

      If mob drops get tied to knowledge and only killing gets me knowledge, this may not be my game after all... ☠ 😒 💀
      But I'm hopeful that this will be addressed by @Prometheus & the mighty devs in future iterations bc thinking up a world like Arboreus seems to intuitively mean they grok folks like me.

      Suggestions for (believable) ways to learn about things w/o killing mass quantities:

      1. observation
      2. interaction
      3. using looted materials in crafting
      4. 'lessons' from an experienced hunter/craftsperson

      @Specter and the mods can move this to another thread if it seems like a completely separate conversation. 🖖

    • Suggestion: Toggle for Fullframe/Window

      My first suggestion was a success, so I'm going to try a second one! One thing I'd find VERY helpful is a hotkey that toggles btw ff/window.

      There are a couple of googledocs put together by brilliant & helpful trailblazers (e.g., which gatherable items have specific enchanting properties). Being able to consult them quickly would be very helpful.

      That may already be in there - if it is, thanks for a clue 😉

      @Eigus Glad I'm not the only one having trouble with melee. The 3d UI isn't familiar for me at all - I've mostly done builder games and RTS - so I got knocked down a LOT before I figured out how the hot keys worked 🤣 😵

      Now I do a little better, but I still get killed regularly. Not giving up! Gonna get those goblins one day! #learningcurve

      THANKS! One possible way to do this 'believably' in-game might be a little 'notebook' that takes up one inventory slot and could hold up to x# of bookmark/notes. When a player marks a spot, the PC would make a little (deletable) note in their notebook.

      Thanks for slipping me in the back door. My favorite part so far is exploring. But what would be really helpful is a way to 'bookmark' places on the map w notes. It's probably there already and I just haven't got a clue about how to do it. 😝

      Hi @Skydragon & WELCOME!

      You got burned after a long relationship w that game - I don't blame you one bit for being wary about a similar situation.

      Each of us is assessing our own willingness to trust/risk based on previous experiences. My previous experiences are LOTS of freemium games run by whales who have way more $$ & time than anyone should have, and are NOT nice people you want to spend the day with.

      For me, it's worth dropping what I'd have spent in a year on one of those games to have even a CHANCE to play something more in keeping with my own preferences. In the end, you'll make your own decision, but I hope you'll stick around.

      I won an alpha key for this test and I'm having real fun even if I don't know wtf I'm doing

      I'm gonna ditto @Gibbx on all points and add that there's opportunity for anyone to win an alpha key sin dinero by posting screenshots of their social media mentions of this game.

      I have a beta-level buy-in but was able to try an early alpha this way. Unfortunately, one thing the devs learned from that test was how difficult it was for many players to get into the game universe on their previous client. So I spent my 'won' time waiting for the world to load and then starting over when it timed out :-P~~ but it's an important part of building a game, and that experience made the next test go much better.

      So, I'm not too impatient to get into an unfinished game but I'm totally into winning another try at helping them craft it.
      My perspective as a player most experienced in other sorts of games (builder/RTS) may be a demographic the devs want to attract, so I appreciate their willingness to listen to EVERYONE's input.

      @Jestyr24 - It's true that the jerque ratio on this forum runs at about 11%. Just like in real life 😏
      The big difference is the anonymity people have while being jerques. That's why, when I'm confused, I'll try searching the forum and the site for info before I ask a question that's easy to get the answer for someplace else. Why invite the jerques to feel smarter than they are, right? 🖖

      It's also why, when I see someone ask a question that's easy to answer someplace else, I'll just ignore it, or share the link. making someone feel stupid is a cheap thrill I don't usually need.
