RE: Abomination idea
@Umbaalo I really love that. It looks really evil and gnarly. Mange definitely helps! And those claw/hooves are f'in SCARY, d00d.
@FibS - I hear ya, but for gaming purposes, the folks who want to be evil probably also want to LOOK evil. They might have a 'glamour' they can use to fool folks, but that wouldn't be their base look.
And your excellent point doesn't explain why it is that it's the female costumes that seem to default to sexualized versions (hint: marketing theory does) -
RE: Week 139 - Weekly Drawing Winners
Way to go, winners! I've seen interesting and thoughtful posts from all y'all and it's a pleasure to have you in this community.

RE: Abomination idea
@Umbaalo yeah that's pretty-scary
Tangential rant: Why tf do they have to put FLOWERS in her hair ffs???
There's nothing pretty or sexy about actual evil, and it just makes me so angry when evil female characters are made 'pretty' instead of HORRIBLY SCARY (I'd bet a million bucks the evil deer-bomination would say the same). We're coming to that time of year when guys choose from all kinds of costumes that make them look hideous, and gals choose from all kinds of costumes that make them look...

RE: Whats in the future graphically.
Just want to say how much I appreciate the way @Prometheus & the devs actually check in and respond to this forum (unlike the CEO of Amazon
)
Cool to learn that my little toons, their home, and their foes are all going to be evolving and upgrading as time goes on! I'm with @Gothix, tho - I honestly like the game's aesthetic already. Onward and upward, sez me.

RE: Any advice for a new player?
Hi @12lego2! You're a smart new fella asking a smart question! Wecome to our world.
Good advice abounds here, but not a lot of it is applicable to all play styles. Use salt generously on anything that claims to be generic.I will second a couple of the above advices and add a couple of my own:
-
+1 to carrying the means to make a quick campfire. Rocks and sticks weigh a bit but you really can't know what might almost kill you, or when.
-
+1 to joining a guild & helping in a city. SO MANY PERKS. I mostly play solo but the facilities in cities are way too important & lush to deny yourself. And I've met some truly cool peeps.
those are my dittos. Now my own advices:
-
bookmark the enchanting/reagent table here and the Beast Guide here and save yourself some trouble. The Book of Knowledge in-game is not complete.
-
Make some spare clothes and store them at your place of resurrection with any other things you want to have ready so you can keep playing instead of going back to where you got killed.
-
I don't ignore the global chat. My experience is that if I say hello and am pleasant, the pleasant people respond, and we sometimes learn fun things from each other. But DEFINITELY ignore the trolls and jerques. Just don't respond at all to any of that. Eventually, we will have the ability to mute/block individual accounts. For now, just do it in your head Same in the forum, btw...

RE: What to expect on an "alpha state" game?
Yep, @Razvan!
I am doing my darndest to make all my worst mistakes NOW. There are SO MANY I want to make before the 'real build' happens, and I don't even know what they ARE yet!
I'll say it again here, for those who missed it other places I said this: I bought in w $$ I probably should not have spent during a night of much bourbon. I did it bc I was SO tickled about the idea of a game with a whole world of PvE and no P2W.
I have, since, gotten more than my $$'s worth of fun out of Fractured - both in playing the game and in the online community gathered to 'test it'. So, everything from here on out is gravy for me. #FTW

RE: Computer Specs
Hi @Rosetopia ! acc to the FAQ:
-
ON WHAT PLATFORMS IS FRACTURED AVAILABLE?
The game is being developed for computers running Windows, macOS and Linux. While support for all these three operating systems is planned to be available on full release, only Windows support is available during alpha, while macOS and Linux clients should be launched during beta or at full release. -
WILL I NEED A NASA COMPUTER TO PLAY FRACTURED?
Definitely not! Weβre working to keep Fractured available on mid-range computers and laptops as well, including those a few years old.
That said, a sweet GPU won't hurt playing any 3d game available. I'm using a midrange potato with factory GPU and I notice frame 'skipping' from time to time - esp during times when the game has lots of folks on the servers.
I'm hoping to be able to afford a new GPU before the actual launch, but who tf knows what will happen btw now and then?

RE: Hello, I'm back! I've upgraded to Legend!
@FibS said:
However, I don't know if I'll be able to participate in the October test, because that's my birthday and I'll also be attempting Artober.
Welcome back and Happy October Birthday, @FibS!!!
The plan for the alpha, if I remember correctly, is that it's supposed to start near the end of the month, and previous tests have been pushed back by days or weeks when unforeseen glitches arose. GRATZ on your key! Hold on to that and maybe you won't need to rearrange your schedule much at all.
Hope you'll post some of your (forum-friendly) artwork!

RE: Spread The Word & Win A Key!
The new lower price might tempt some more of my friends in this group to buy in! Just got word that there are layoffs and furloughs in my workplace future (not sure who is going to be affected yet) so even with a price reduction, my hope is that I can win an alpha key for the October test.

RE: October Surprises
RIP RBG
Yesterday at sundown was the beginning of the Jewish New Year celebration. According to a reliable source, there is a mishnah (interpretation of Torah) that says dying on the eve of the new year is God's highest complement for a life well lived. I'm gonna say AMEN to that from my place in the Episcopalian pews.

RE: Asteroids, Labyrinth and world Bosses
Yes, Thanks so much @LilCassiopeia! Sounds like fun stuff. REALLY looking forward to the next test.

RE: How do you feel about the number of towns in the current map?
As @FluffKugel rightly notes, these are potential towns. I know the mechanic isn't fully developed yet, but there's real work in founding and maintaining a town of any size. With serious perks for those who are able.
As the long game develops, I picture few large cities, some more 'suburbs' and hamlets, and a good number of struggling or failing villages.

RE: October Surprises
That's a smart doggie - no doubt in my mind. Those eyes! Lights on, somebody's home.

RE: Whats in the future graphically.
@Stacy555 - gonna just spitball a little here. Not disagreeing... just pondering...
I'm not a designer, but I know how incredible the graphics of new games can be, and I know there's a very lucrative & well-researched science that helps designers use graphics to pull players in and keep them there.
I totally agree with you - Fractured is NOT making best use of that research & maybe they should use some more! There's no 'halo flash' when I finish a tutorial goal to make me feel special. There's no 'twinkly' to tell me a plant is just what I'm looking for. It does feel dead when a person is used to getting so much stimulus & reinforcement from games.
I wonder whether that's purposeful? Going for an old-school feel, or a certain counter-industry-standard aesthetic? Impossible to say. I do know the devs are purposeful about making sure that Fractured is playable on pretty much any old potato, so maybe the low environmental stim is a function of keeping access as broad as poss? Just a hypothesis.
If that's the case, it's still not working bc my pc struggles with the game sometimes as it is - and I have no way of knowing whether that's my graphix card or a bandwidth issue, so....
tl:dr: I'm open to more twinkles & graphical joy if I can still get in the game.

RE: October Surprises
So many folks just hanging on by a fingernail, waiting for the worst to pass. I wish I could believe that it will, but tbh what I see coming is bloody, whoever wins this 'election' thingee.

RE: Week 138 - Weekly Drawing Winners
Great job to the folks generating actual content and interesting conversations here! KUDOS well deserved.

RE: RE: Global Release Date
Hi @Nox31!
The link below will take you to the developers' early roadmap, which is now totally fubar'd by things like an unpredictable global pandemic. Your guess is as good as mine when this game will actually manifest as 'done', but I want to invite you to enjoy what IS...
A community that's actually got a lot of very cool people from all over the world
A game that's fun to play just as it stands, and getting better with every test.
Developers that listen and take suggestions from the players - without compromising their original vision of a game that players of every gaming style can find a home in WITHOUT P2W.https://fracturedmmo.com/development-roadmap-from-alpha-to-release/

October Surprises
I'll confess to being focused elsewhere than gaming as the US elections loom and wildfires are displacing so many in my part of the US.
Wanted to post and say that I'm grateful for this online place to leave some of the idiocy behind for a fresh type of insanity
Am I the only person who wonders about what might be going on, if the next alpha is delayed a week or so (which wouldn't be unprecedented...) into November? The first week of November will be pivotal in the US - however a person's politics spin.
Alternate Futures while gaming... discuss....
