That is even intentional, I'd say. One of the statements by Prometheus was that you don't have to invest plenty of time into getting equipment, but rather that equipment and abilities would scale vertically. Or, as he expressed it, you can basically get into game, craft basic gear and as long as you're a skilled player, can enter PvP nearly instantly. That's basically the 'MOBA-like' part Fractured sometimes advertises.

    • RE: Why Syndesia? (or, as things stand now, would you even play on Syndesia, or pick one of the other planets as a less Toxic alternative for your playstyle?)

@Yitra said in Why Syndesia? (or, as things stand now, would you even play on Syndesia, or pick one of the other planets as a less Toxic alternative for your playstyle?):

      (...)Consensual PvP

That's a bit tricky. You could argue that by choosing Syndesia, you actually already opted in for PvP, since otherwise you'd have selected Arboreus. What you could specify is situational and regional PvP, such as Militia, sieges and other specific 'opt-in' activities.
In which case you wouldn't need a jail system at all and you wouldn't have any 'open world PvP elements' to Syndesia.

The problem at hand is less trivial than what it seems. I wholeheartedly agree that we need a definition of what kind of players DS intends to choose Syndesia.
As for 'ganking', there's more than meets the eye as well. You can design PvP in a way that with preparation and map knowledge you can evade and escape an attack. But that means there's negative consequences to running out entirely outfitted for PvP, as well as running out with a possible attack in mind. Some would already dislike that, but that could be mitigated by directing that audience to Arboreus. There's another important point still, namely 'skill gap', gankers would target inexperienced (in the aspect of PvP, not the game) players, which is the main issue that's being dealt with by MOBAs and Elo ranking systems.

All that said, I still think DS should clarify on the target audience for Syndesia they have in mind.

    • RE: [Skill] Detect, for the solo players

While I like the idea and intention, I'm not sure that it would work like that @maze. At 5 mana per second, can you really afford to keep the spell lasting long enough to avoid being 'ganked'? You'd pretty much have to know there's people heading your way already, turn it on and then it's a little too late, since you already knew.

Could you elaborate how you think this would work?

    • RE: Spring Alpha Major Release #1

I'm a bit puzzled. If you have many PvE players complaining about being forced into PvP, why are you increasing the difficulty to get out of PvP?

I agree with @mmaamm, it would be nice if you could elaborate on the audience you intend to select Syndesia as opposed to the two other planets. That might help with future arguments.

(...)I've never enchanted anything and have no idea of how it works(...)

Enchanting basically requires a enchanting table in a town that has researched the technology for the tier you're looking at (there's tier 1, 2 and 3 but I'm not sure if you can reach 3 yet). You want to gather the right reagents, put that into the table and hit enchant (make sure the item you're looking at can be enchanted).
A possible and easy to get combination would be penny, penny, amanita, troll liver and dark splinter.
      Does that help you?

And consider adding durability as an enchantment for that kind of equipment! Tier 2 durability enchantment can go a long way. (Just a suggestion, I know it takes up a valuable slot, but it does help with your issue)

Player cities could get 'billboards' for advertising and guildhalls for applications, meetings and the like. That way you'd still have the requirement of local meeting in-game, but get the addition of a possible complete in-game recruiting without having to go 'out of character'.

Arboreus is the Beastman planet, Syndesia is the Human planet.ยน

@GamerSeuss said in The Eviction/Refugee system ( Residential area solution for city takeovers ):

(...)the Human Planet is a mixed bag planet(...)

Yes, that's why I said the mechanic should feature a 'between completely save and complete anarchy'. It's similar to how PvP is handled on Syndesia. You can be attacked anywhere, but there are negative consequences for the attacker. That's not completely save, but that's not complete anarchy either.

@GamerSeuss said in The Eviction/Refugee system ( Residential area solution for city takeovers ):

(...)for the newbie population, sometimes there is a comfort factor in being able to play Humans. They are familiar and thus it is less jarring for those who aren't necessarily seasoned gamers, and these humans need to be able to opt-out of the Siege mechanic as well, if anything, they need it more than others as they are barely getting their feet wet in the MMORPG world(...)

I'd like to argue against this. You can't opt out of PvP on Syndesia and that's something likely to happen to you far more often and earlier into your gaming experience than being evicted from a house. Actually, I'd say by the time you have settled, built a house in a town that gets sieged and were valuable enough of a target for the attackers to spend enough resources to evict you, you're no longer a 'newbie'. What you're arguing is basically the Human planet should be completely save as well, just like the Beastman planet, because some people might want to play Human instead of Beastman.

    • RE: The Eviction/Refugee system ( Residential area solution for city takeovers )

A question (or perspective) that I didn't see mentioned yet is if the human planet has to carter for 'soloist-consentual' players. If you want to be completely save, you can happily live your live on the Beastman planet in your house. Nobody can evict you, nobody can harm you, you can play the game solo, PvE, PvP, however you want.
If you don't want any security measures at all, you can fight for your right at the Demon planet.
But if you choose to live on the Human planet, you're kind of somewhere in between, were actions should be possible, but should have consequences.

That would, at least in my humble opinion, mean there's no absolute safety required for Humans.

I'd say that's one of these systems and situations where you can't please everybody and where you have to find a way 'between'. But that's best determined by testing, so, wait for how things develop during this test when we first have sieges. Try to play these 'game weakness' the best you can, because that is what the developers need to see in order to make an informed decision. And then, you can talk about it again when the 'results are in' and it's going into the next iteration of design?
