      I'm sorry but there will be a grind regardless what the developers say. If DS can make that grind seem like it's part of a play secession will determine how successful player retention is.

      spells might not say "kill 200 mobs" but we know that's what we'll need to do to learn that spell. I've seen it disguised as a percent bar instead of a number bar. IE you kill 10 mobs and you gain 1% then you know you'll need to kill 100 which is no different than seeing 10/100 bar.

      i'm not sure 30 days is a good time frame though. unless the outfits were sub 10$.

      to me, Path of Exile has the best that I've seen, prices aside. they have league packs, which last for 90 days. They have core packs which swap yearly or something like that. and they have individual cosmetics you can get outside of those packs. AND the packs grant, usually, enough cash shop currency based on the cost of the pack. IE a 30$ pack gives ~30$ in shop currency. the 480$ pack gives ~480$ worth of shop currency.

      put some cosmetics in the store with previews! and start that. If you're selling dynamight gold then put that in there too (dynamight gold spent during testing to be refunded when the game launches). If these items are pre-launch exclusives then I know people would buy them if they aren't 50$ each!

      there's going to be a grind. if you want to build a house, you need materials. you have to get the quantity or you have to get the money to pay someone. regardless, it's going to be a grind (unless you can buy it for cash which i doubt).

      your persistent progression isn't what mine is. you need to stop assuming everyone's persistent progression is the same as yours. even in most games with levels, those levels aren't persistent either.

      it depends on how it's rewarded. Odds are a guild will have a full setup of gatherers, crafters, etc. Thus it could be possible it can unlock any type of cosmetic. The problem would be when you have a guild that focuses on a certain aspect, like crafting or just PvP combat. I'd hate to be in a guild that is focused then a guild cosmetic is released for gathering 100m resources and the guild decide it'd look great and now we'd have to start gathering.

      that's more of a veteran or mentor system. Game Master (GM) is a position inside the company usually able to make adjustments to game items, quest, or sometimes account issues.

      for WoW it was a voted volunteer position. It was setup so that the community could chat with the class rep then that rep bring the biggest concerns to the developers.

      I believe it's good to be imaginative. Sometimes these "play secessions" spark some ideas for developers even if they aren't directly copied from the players.
      As a Demon, I'd love to have some spells and abilities tied to the life leech or necro skills.
      I try to see spell crafting as needing just two skills though. Maybe the second rank would unlock crafting for that spell and the 3rd rank would just add another modifier to it. The way I'm seeing it is the ranks can be used independently of each other for crafting BUT maybe the ranks are our crafting. I'd like to take a spell that is an aoe and combine it with a channel to create a 'spirit bomb' type spell! as an example.

      I mentioned the ranks as being 'crafting' above to my reply to Meiki.

      let's say you kill 20 trolls and gain knowledge to unlock a new spell. instead of 20 it might be 2000. Instead of walking into an area and learning a new spell, you now have to walk to 5 areas. Maybe the certain spell is a lootable that you have to 'learn'. instead of 1 item granting the spell it take 20, as they're shredded, maybe you can't complete it on that one planet as the Fracture put pieces on the other planets!

      gear and resources are also part of progression. some people building a city will be their progression. not everyone will need to unlock all 400 skills with all 1200 ranks. I might be content with just bringing chaos to the human and beast planets in sieges. I may want to start a city to be the best dictator i can be!

      The beauty of a sandbox is progression can be different for everyone.

      I've seen players elect a class representative. These people were usually those that theorycraft the most and often were in the top spots in raids or end game content for their class. They usually were the highest performing of their class too. Then Blizzard [WoW] dismissed them because they were better at it than the developers.

      they shouldn't be GMs. maybe low level support but never a GM.

      i haven't heard of player GM since the late 90's. everything is so corporate now that many developers use publishers which have their own internal GMs.

      No, you don't. If you look at the description of these spells, they are what you define as 'crafted spells' in this thread. You'd be hard pressed to have 400 different base elements for spell crafting. If you could name more than 50, I'd be impressed.

      It can never be infinite, but that's not the point I was trying to argue. Yes, you would have more spell combinations, but you would have less progress points to unlock them.

      the game will have 400 abilities as posted in the KS and in the news. Even IF it was 50 and we could craft our own it'd be great. Those 50 would be harder to obtain thus making the crafting system more valuable.

      why would spell crafting use progress points? once you unlock the spells and ranks you can use them to make unique spells.

      once you unlock all 400 abilities, you'll probably want to unlock the other 2 tiers, so now you have 1200 ability tiers to unlock. They've mentioned that some wont unlock for certain karma characters. If we were to craft spells then that 1200 could be limitless. maybe the crafting system requires a use limit before we're able to change that spell. maybe it requires certain rare materials, maybe both. it's an artificial progression that has to be coded once.

      you'd still have your persistent progress because you needed to unlocked the base spells, now you can experiment with them. ice+fire, fire+water, poison+electric. and that's just a single tier system. imagine adding ice+water+electric. maybe water+ice+electric is something different. maybe electric+ice+water is different. what if we could craft 4 elements, how about 5 elements. and that doesn't include area effect, or other attributes.

      a spell crafting system would be much deeper than we could imagine, AND because Fracture has spell combination it would make it so much deeper.

      seriously just open your imagination and stop thinking about absolutes.

      just stay outside of the 30 minute run area of each summon zone and you'll be fine. but i suspect gear will be easily replaced.
