@Jetah Just an opinion, but I think it all depends on the game studio. Digital Extremes, in my opinion, have done a great job handling P4C model with Warframe.

that's only because you can pay to speed up crafting. otherwise you can get silver via game play when trading. I suspect fractured to offer tools or something to speed up crafting too but that puts it into the p2w category because this is a pvp game.

Once these forums opened up I haven't tried to follow the game anywhere else. I know alot of backers often complain that devs don't continue to post on their kickstarter. I think a post on the kickstarter news that all info will be posted at X location should be sufficient to direct people where they want to go.

I've seen plenty of 1-2 paragraphs then a link to the developer forums/news for the rest of it. that's even fine.

we know they'll have character slots. Prometheus already wants convenience in but I'll still object to it.

@Jetah As I've mentioned before, Znirf is currently on vacation. The devs did mention they were going to be at Milan Games Week on Instagram. I agree that this should have been communicated to the forum and other social media as well. I shall discuss it with Prometheus.

I'm not on Instagram but am backed on Kickstarter and get emails from updates. I understand people take vacations but having some material created and ready to release while they're away is a great way to still maintain communications.

I agree that this should have been communicated to the forum and other social media as well.

I just hate being one person to keep reminding DS that communications needs to happen. I'm not asking for a daily report but monthly is fine.

You can just go for those titles that seem interesting for you, and put in an effort to collect those.

I think that people who try to collect "everything" in game always have a painful life. 😛

actually that isn't (completely) true. completionist exist!

There are 4 types of game play in which Wildstar built game play around the 4 major types of players.

    • Rhykker Mention of "Pay for Convenience"

newest news wrap up video by Rhykker mentions the "pay to not play the game" as a catch up mechanic in Ghost Recon Breakpoint:

      .

      link to full news.

Since Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s early access period went live, some players have raised questions about certain ‘time-saving’ microtransactions that appear to have been available in the game.

Now I know @Prometheus wants pay for convenience but you really should reconsider that or look at the responses on the video.

a little reminder that the project is still go is better than nothing at all while the KS comments fill up with rage.

I'm not sure that's true. They would have to pay somebody to do it or stop coding to do it themselves, both of which are bad news when you have a small team and a deadline to meet.

they have a community manager. i doubt that title is given to a head programmer. it could but i doubt it.

now, that CM should be going around and collecting some information to post in a monthly KS update.
they went to an Italian game convention and nothing was mentioned about it (at least no email or update I remember). that could have been a great update to let those near the event meet with the team. but no, they kept communications to zero and we didn't know until it was mentioned after the fact.

that is just poor communication. it's something i expect from a teen telling their parents what's happening in school. it isn't something a company that asked for cash to product should do. Some KS projects have been going for 5 years and are still producing updates. Star Citizen decided, and after 7-10 years, to stop updating via KS. THAT i understand but DS should still use KS for updates for 5 years at least. Now KS aside, we should have updates, regardless of KS.

People will start to think they were scammed.

I don't understand this logic. This is a small team, it will take time for them to do anything with the game. It's best for them to put their heads down and code the game, saving communication for when we have test weekends for maximum impact.

people have read past scams on kickstarter. so they assume all are scams. sometimes they back anyways. sometimes the project will just send an update with a link to the website post about the update.

a little reminder that the project is still go is better than nothing at all while the KS comments fill up with rage.

also Crowfall updated today on KS!

It’s not unreasonable to assume the updates will be conducted outside of Kickstarter. Many projects start migrating away from the Kickstarter updates, not really sure why.

Crowfall, which i backed in 2016 or 2015, last updated on KS was Sept 4, 2019!

I'd say to use the platform for at least a year or two or the game releases before migrating off it.

I think they only want to post when they have content updates or actually have news and this spartial os, port is screwing them over.

I guessing they dont want to post once a month saying yeah still fighting with this pesky bug, or this issue, just wont fix.
Incase it causes worry in the community.

Unfortunately radio silence also causes worry
      So they cant win.

Fingers crossed the cursed OS will be resolved soon, so we can go back to getting regular information updates

i liked when GGG posted a problem and how they solved it, it was something that no other dev, that i remember, has posted.
I like the post of the issues with SpatialOS and the Unity (or whichever the company was) problems and how they were waiting on what resolution would happen. I don't expect fly on the wall level communications but an update on progress or even problems is neat to listen to.

@Specter said in Next test phase:

Well, I can give you an update on a few things:

      • The devs went to Milan Games Week earlier this week and showcased Fractured there. (Hence the influx of Italian members on the forum over the last few days.)
      • I have no update on the porting but a week ago Prometheus told me it was almost done, so it's probably done by now or very close to done.
      • Znirf is currently on vacation, hence the lack of content pills and answers from him.
      • I have no update on the test weekends but I've asked Prometheus for an update.

When the devs go out somewhere, email the backers!

It would have been nice to have at least 1 pill covered so that when they're on vacation it can be released.

Honestly, it feels bad when there's no communication, for what feels like 2 weeks. it feels like i should stop dropping by the forums and ignore the development like I have for the other games and just wait for release. but i can't do that because of the Foundation.

I just looked at the kickstarter updates and last one was 4 months ago. I looked at the comments and for a while it was nothing for 3 months, then 2-3 2 weeks ago. people will start to think they were scammed.

DS has someone for that. @Znirf DymStudios - Community Manager. that's the person that should be doing the monthly post to the people!

I personally hate decay as well but without some kind of item loss crafters get hosed. I can't think of a solution that makes everyone happy.

cant please everyone. those that try will fail.

i'm pretty sure banks are required to use encryption but where most of the user details come from are from 3rd party sites that wont encrypt. Diablo 3 had thousands of accounts hijacked because wiki, and other 3rd party websites were easy to obtain the login information. second worst part was the number of people that reused the same exact password (because email is super popular for a username).

to assume banks dont get hacked is pretty childish. although it's easier to get cash directly from users than from the bank. it's why there are signs by gift cards stating the IRS and other Government entities dont take gift cards.

      @Pwnstar
online video games dont have a cash option. not all games have their own gift card. Warframe had the option to use gift cards via their merchant and it cost 20% more.

Just to point out, but those projects have much bigger teams. And even then, I’m sure they had months of stale content. Star citizen sure did... 2016 anyone?!

A project that IS similar in scope to fractured is dual universe. They’ve had some silent periods as they’ve hammered away... but they also found that communication is key 😉

you do understand that bigger teams means more time to get the information out. Camelot Unchained puts out a nearly monthly email of over 2000 words. I'm sure that takes a while to do.

@Jetah I don't know about that gift card, I paid with bank or credit card and there was no extra fees. Well there was a good amount of options so maybe next time choose something else. 😉

you dont understand the conversation. someone said they dont want their credit card info stored on a publishers/developers servers because people can steal bank info. That tells me they dont use banks at all and only use cash. In order to pay with cash online they'd have use gift cards. Using gift cards online to buy items not of the gift card store means they pay 20% more (at least that's how it worked for me).

credit card and paypal are both 'banks' so the person isn't using those options.

you said alternative payments (to banks) which is only gift cards. either with the merchant (like buying Blizzard balance or Steam wallet) or using (Target/Wal-mart/etc) gift card with xsolla will cost 20% more. The other option could be some of the few prepaid credit cards but those are being phased out, because I assume money laundering or something like that.

@Roccandil said in Trading, In-game market:

I hate item decay, that is, durability loss over time (not use). 😞 That turns the game into a repetitive chore.

Item durability going down on use is a different matter, but even then, it's annoying.

What -really helps the economy is something like Albion's item-trashing system, where on PvP death a significant portion of gear is simply removed from the game. I really like that, for two reasons:

      • The dying player has lost everything anyhow, and won't really care if some gear was trashed (would probably prefer it!);
      • The looting player gets some gear (plus the kill), and so still gets a reward (sometimes a very good reward).

That method "hides" an item sink in plain sight, and is not a frustrating, repetitive burden.

so a loss over 3 months is a chore but every death an item (or few) go poof isn't a chore? Now Eve Online has a system where random modals will be removed when a ship is destroyed but that I can understand better.

If you're shot in the chest 10 times which results in a death, your boots somehow just disappear.

When you die even by pve your gear does damage correct? I was never a fan of SWG's equipment decay mechanism but I know it is a necessary part to keep the economy moving.

I was thinking about how legendary items (hypothetical here) should have higher durability than other crafted items. Thinking that a legendary item survived over the ages before my hero used it for a month of game play. Then I thought about how if it were removed after a given amount of time, lets say 3 months, then the balance of power could be kept better than letting a specific item last infinity long.

For RP, the item could stay with the chosen person until the task is done then it breaks, is reforged by (gods, itself, whatever) to be found by the next chosen individual.
For a game system it could be slightly OP (not 50% better but 5-25%) so that it's power is felt but it isn't a permanent item held by that character. If the person doesn't use it then it's removed faster! Balance would be better because others wont complain about a specific guild owning it and conquering everything.

we can't blame the devs for not giving us something interesting soon enough. some devs go literally 6 months at a time, or even up to a year and a half before they bring something exciting and new to light. we are pretty lucky here to have devs here that actually chat with us as part of the community, and despite how busy they are, provide us with minor progress reports. getting something, even if only once a month or two, is better than once every 6 months or more. give the devs a bit of a break people.

half the idea of the forum is for us to come up with creative and interesting ideas for the devs after all... how many of you are showcasing your amazing ideas to the devs instead of commenting on what they are showcasing?

I've backed a few MMO developers and they all have constant information coming out. Camelot Unchained, Star Citizen, Crowfall and Fractured. Fractured is the only one that has gone multiple months without new information (talking news here not small tweets/pills of info). When I have to remind the Fractured staff to post test info on Kickstarter it tells me they haven't organized their information well enough. They may be great at programming and sales but keeping backers update isn't something they're use to and it'll bite them on the KS platform.

@Jetah why are you even still fighting this to perpetuate the conversation? It is obvious noone wants to give their 'top secret' / 'classified' government grade personal information to a game company... literally noone is agreeing with the idea. just move on. It isn't going to be implemented if the devs are smart.

People have also been pretty adamant about credit card verification to create an account not being a thing as well.

but there are millions already that have their info saved with game companies, publishers, etc.

      @Tuoni
I paid with Xsolla via gift card and they require 20% over the cost to purchase.
