RE: Ultimaesque?
@Alnilam said in Ultimaesque?:
@Phader I hope they make the game challenging tbh, i mean including mobs, i saw the game play on you tube from start and the toons started with fire spells straight of from start which could hunt down wolfs fast....in UO even a pig or chicken you had to be careful!
I just hope they don't teddy bear things and use also collision physics like UO with stamina!sorry to tell you but it's being designed to be solo-friendly. there will be 'group content' but that'll probably be the only places for challenges. unless the asteroid system is a solo/group challenge system.

RE: Give us Attribute Resets please
why can't you have fluid attribute points? it'd mimic our bodies! i mean we need immersion!
races just start at a certain point. that's it. fluid attributes means you can make a blood race melee. but without that they're stuck. so if you like the character design but you want a melee player then you're gimping yourself and teammates by selecting it.
now that i think about it, having races with static starting attributes goes against the core design of the game. where your knowledge allows you to change skills for a situation.
and i didn't argue against my self, i pointed out there are two perspectives to games!

from what it seems like, DS jumped some bullet points and decided to offer a stress test hoping to get more funding for the game. (guess here nothing with proof).
normally in an alpha you increase the number of participants so that your hardware and software can be looked at as you increase the concurrent connections.
I believe it would have been great to allow some foundation members access for a limited time to increase the 'stress' on the systems.i look forward to seeing what happened, how it's being looked into and how it'll be prevented in the future. GGG (path of exile) developers did the same thing with problems and it works great for the community. Chris has posted about problems within the code and Leagues where he says what went wrong, how it went wrong, how they plan to never have that happen again and the community loves it.
Not being funny but 300 people is not a lot a server should easily handle that, the stress test was the right thing to do as it found a massive issue with the server structure.
The fact ithis bug was found sooner rather the later is a good thing as it could need some core features of the code changing or anything
Ds imo made the right decision for development, and opening up the server to the public was simply a stress test as advertised
if you're a small indie development team, you want a little hardware for your development and testing. You offer a stress test and only figure x amount of hardware to see stats on how it handles. If the hardware can scale, that's great, but you have to pay for the extra hardware. they want the minimum hardware for the most amount of users. I used 300 but it could have been 30k.

RE: Give us Attribute Resets please
my first reply: here there isn't always a 'massive rework on skills', sometimes it's a balance in a sub 5% change. a number of those and the whole build is bad.
this comment also answers ithaving static attribute points entered before playing the game is bad design. offering points as the character is developed is better. having points that are fluid and can change based on how you play the game is best. that's from a players perspective. from a developer perspective you want the players to constantly change their characters, deleting them or buying new slots, after a minor change happens to stats, skills, gear, etc. a developer wants to keep the player playing, having concurrent players, total monthly players is great for investors (as this game isn't pure sub based).

I'd be very suspicious if everything went well in an Alpha test.
I'd expect a Beta to run reasonably well but Alphas are often POC in my experience. That's Proof Of Concept and Piece Of Crap.
To me, it's a privilege to see the game at this stage and we can look back and remember how it's improved.
that privilege is no longer the case though. developer/publishers have figured out that people are willing to pay for that access. I haven't heard of an Alpha Stress Test before but I'm glad they found the problem now than in a Beta ST.
It's a privilege when it's truly testing and not a company profittering. Unfortunately, as you say, there's plenty of games with rip-off early-access packs. I believe these guys are genuine though. I'm wary of expensive packs because of the (planned to be) free to play games with them that end up being a (intentional or unintentional) scam. I bought the base pack here because it seemed worth getting in early to get the pre-release rewards. I couldn't justify the price of a higher pack to get Alpha testing as well as knowing the state it might be in at this early stage.
I dont mind if the publishers/developers state it's a free to play game with pre-purchase early access (i hate to even say it but Fortnite did that). If you hide that you'll be f2p and still sell packs then I get pissed.

RE: Will the game have seasonal Holidays mixed in with the mythology of the game?
I'd like to see lore themed holidays, even if they wont line up with our holidays.

RE: December 2019 Stress Test Review
This Review was very insightful and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad you wrote what the problem was and how it was determined to fix it. I also liked how you admitted there was a problem, which isn't happening much in the gaming development world.
Thanks for the Review!
@Prometheus I'll say it again but a little note to the Kickstarter backers could be done too. The email with a little information with a link to the full update would be enough to keep those backers informed.

RE: Buying into the game and the value...
plenty of News post for Design journals, you can also read about all of the New while there too.
The core idea of the game sounds great although we'll see how it's executed.

I would say the original poster made a decent point regarding "perception". The old saying goes "You only get one chance to make a first impression."
The Discord and Forums have been busier than I can recall and that's a good thing, I hope these little setbacks don't slow the momentum.
And Welcome to all newer type forum peeps!
honestly i only see a stress test this early in development as a means to get money. otherwise it's never a good idea to offer such a thing so early.

RE: Uninspired Confidence
@Shivashanti
and according to your TF#7 title, you've been here a while and probably know what state the game is truly in. Those that have posted complaints were those without any titles, typically no knowledge of the game at all, except what minor reading/watching they did prior to downloading the alpha stress test.The stress test should have been done internally, IE those in the foundation and have signed up or backed, before opening it to the public. But they can't take back what they did. I'm glad they found the problem and are working to fix it but some impatient people that was too much and they'll not bother with the game again. in part, i blame the industry for releasing 'alphas' which aren't true alphas.

@Jetah stat points given based on the amount of knowledge wouldn't be on par with the horizontal progression they want to achieve
what's the difference between giving 10 points when you create a character vs 10 points over 100 points of knowledge learned?

Could you elaborate on the difference between having Strength at 21 instead of 15 and having Strength at 18 instead of 12?
yes. when you increase those numbers, currently, you cant change them.
I'd much prefer a method where stat points are given based on certain amount of knowledge increases. This would be similar to leveling up in traditional RPGs. This would allow the player time to adjust to the game, the mechanics, the play styles, etc, before committing to permanent stat changes. -
RE: Uninspired Confidence
Maybe the developers should have emphasized this is a true alpha stress test via overlay on the screen it could have had a different outcome but I've noticed DS has an issue with communication (see how many times I've reminded them to post kickstarter updates).

RE: Give us Attribute Resets please
@Razvan said in Give us Attribute Resets please:
@Ametrys The problem is that in similar games (example Albion), the gameplay changes dramatically over the years. Items that used to be meta in some scenarios are now useless and some that used to be weak got new amazing skills. My guess is that this will also happen in Fractured and it will really suck to have a character build around something that will become absolutely useless in two years.
now add in the Knowledge system where it can take who knows how long to get back to where you were. If it were a where you could powerlevel your way through to max so you can start to gear, it'd be ok. but this is like Eve Online redoing all their existing skills so they do 10% of they currently do and adding skills that do 900%. (setting aside that you can buy skill points.)

RE: Give us Attribute Resets please
@Logain
only the people who min-max will have different race alts. the majority of the players will stick with 1.the start of a game, many people will not research the mechanics for hours before trying it out. thus they will mostly go in blind and will rely on the tooltips that popup on the screen at creation. many developers just give some basic information on that screen 'as to not overwhelm or confuse' the new player. having a player dictate stats at that point is pretty horrible. which is why a reset or a way to adjust them is needed.
during alpha (the test phase) there should be a way to change them every fight. we're here to find bugs as well as give feedback. having to create a new character for every point change is tedious for an alpha tester.
