    • RE: Optional wasd movement?

      When moving is with mouse, it leaves easier access to use abilities from keyboard. For example Q, W, E, R, T, Y, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Trying to use abilities with WASD is harder.

      false. otherwise wow wouldn't have done it. WoW has 12 keybinds "1 through =", plus any additional you need, and uses WASD to move, plus moving the camera with the mouse. There's also modifiers with shift, alt, control so those 12 can be 84! while still using WASD to move and holding the rmb to move the camera!

      @Tuoni said in Optional wasd movement?:

      What valueable WASD moving systems brings on table what current click to move can not already handle?

      controllers can be setup to play the game where disabled individuals would have access. if the game was on console one stick would be movement, it'd be no different in this situation.

      @Tuoni

      it's the click to move part that can hit an interaction. only games with a forced move (poe and Diablo series) or WASD stop that.

      WASD can have 8 directions. if you need more precise then you'd use the mouse. but realistically you'd never need more than that. even WoW has a turn option, instead of strafe, which allows the person to move the character with more precision (it's bad tho). it's really only good for out of combat.

      WASD could be WS for north/south and AD for turn (again i'd hate this) or AD can strafe if the mouse is over a target (of any type). but that's fail a little in real combat.

    • RE: Profession Matrix - Suggestion for gathering and crafting

      items could have a base stat then have a magic profession, usually something like enchanting, that adds magical attributes to it, which can be RNG to an extent.

      I like Path of Exile where any common item could become a well crafted item.

      odds are we'll have abilities on those 2 buttons

      again, I've mentioned at least 3 isometric games with WASD!!!!! the WoW thing was an example sense i didnt know if you've seen the videos of those WASD isometric games.

      i'm not sure why but you remind me of Finland.

      @Darian
      yeah. combat = no interaction with the environment. only problem I can see is "you're in combat" but you haven't for the past 2 minutes =/

      @Tuoni
      tartaros is a harsh world. dont expect your hand to be held.

      yes i do expect something to guide the player but being safe should only be in the small hatchery that's the starting area. outside that small area it should be pretty wild and unfiltered.

      @Tuoni
      I posted a link to a game that is an isometric with WASD. It was the Necro of this thread!

      I’m willing to think you didn’t see any gameplay footage of it.

      I don’t see players always needing 360° of precision movement. I hate needing to move the mouse across my screen to move my character and attempt to attack something. I’ve already died to a bear because the clock to move was an interactive object which paused my character to run an animation. That isn’t fun and it’ll happen to others and they’ll complain.

      Most of your movement can be done with WASD even 8 directions won’t be a hindrance. Again it could be programmed so that it’s as smooth as a mouse.

      @Tuoni
      i like the ability to chat to guild mates whether in game or not. If Discord was used then I could be in chat all the time via mobile, pc or in game. to me that's a great system. Sure there would be limitations, like item links but i believe those could be structured like HTML links so that clicking it would do the normal popup in game or open your browser to the item's DB page.

      imagine getting home and seeing on your mobile that an attack will happen soon. you know then that you need to get on by x time so you can do somethings prior to the attack. if it was in game only, then you'd get a notification via discord on your phone on the events happening in game and that you need to be online now.

      i played a game where the group (it was a 4-5 player coop arena match) was put in a discord voice chat to speak to each other. we could use the text chat but no one did. to me that was brilliant, let the company that specializes in communication do their thing and you just use parts of it. that's probably cheaper than developing your own voice chat system.

      @Crowdac said in Livestock:

      @Tuoni I think killing livestock is going to be possible. You said something I hadn't thought about, in terms of livestock, which is, a thievery/ bounty system. The consequence for killing someone else's property would result in the perpetrator be marked as a thief, bounty on his/her head, lose karma.

      Like I said before, I presume there can be some kind of thievery feature which is then bound to karma and criminal system. I can see this be a thing. Also, IF this will be possible, it should not be easy task or there should be possibility to protect your property.

      However, what good the game would get if players can just go to other players farm and slaughter animals just for fun? None. Game should not encourage grieffing and not make any aspect of game (in this situation farming) so frustrating activity that no-one wants to do it anymore. That's why it is important to think possible thievery mechanic through very closely before implementing anything.

      I don't personally mind if you can't steal stuff from other players property. I don't see enough value in thievery versus how much frustration it will cause.

      that's pretty easy. while the livestock is on your property they are safe and can't be harmed. when they're off the property they're free game!

      I don't see why game would integrate discord really.

      It's an extra development resources... and you can simply make your discord account, and use it separately from the game.
      Imho, it's a waste of resources.

      it's cheaper to integrate with existing software than to build your own. question is whether Discord is still doing their games integration thing. people are going to use discord anyways, might as well make it work with in game chat. maybe you can't chat in local or other public channels but you can chat with guild/alliance or any private channels created.

    • RE: I suggest to continue the Foundation program

      @Eurav
      it's much easier to level the Foundation because the xp is constant. the lottery is quite 100% random, getting to level 200+ isn't random at all.
      they haven't had the Weekly Drawings in a while so it's possible to get 1-3k from that alone. I've won that 8 times which is 8k xp there. I have 1 recruit which don't post or do anything so that's xp i'm missing out on but i didn't need to get to 200+.

      i think the levels should stop and let as many get to the max reward as possible. the Foundation rewards are much better than "alpha/beta" icons/badges or whatnot other companies give out for RNG access to said testing times.

      @Xulu said in Funding:

      I have a few points I'd like to make.

      1. There are some people in this thread that need to pick a decaffeinated version of their coffee.
      2. I agree with cash shops for cosmetics or convenience. If you can get someone to pay in lieu of what they may consider a waste of time, it doesn't hurt anyone and people can choose to do it however they wish. IE, house plans, faster travel, cosmetics, etc. None of this would affect the rate of how fast you can kill someone or clear monsters, dungeons, etc.
      3. @Prometheus I think you all are doing an amazing job and my hope is that this game really takes off for everyone. Having PvP, PvE, PvX as a viable option for all people in the game is outstanding. I also think that you all could do as some others suggest with cash shop types of things. A way for the community to help support this game post launch is amazing.
      4. Arguing on the internet...no one wins. Discussions and debates...get creative ideas across lines.

      fast travel would make it easier to kill people, flank advances, flee, etc. i have pay for convenience personally. I see blueprints in the shop and not a convenience item. cosmetics aren't convenience either, unless you mean to pay to skip any real craft time.

      i like discussions and debates. it strengths ideas. only problem is when any toxicity comes out.
