      A Vicious Attack!

      by Greenfire

      0_1530228194190_drama.jpg

The Fractured Forum and the Discord was rocked this morning by high drama! Accusations were flung, that were difficult to dismiss, but dismiss it and diss it was the clear defence here. It's clear that there is a line in the sand here, with factions on both sides ready and raring for the game to open so they can make their cage rattling and chest beating amount to something!

      0_1530228331441_ban.jpg

Last week's mass banning from the Discord channels should have served as a warning to the members on either side, that the Management is taking no shit! But the forum members just can't stop raging and showing their utter disdain for each other and their eagerness for blood is unwavering, regardless of prior warnings!

      0_1530228457448_poop.jpg

Today's Vicious attack on the forums, brought our beloved Dynamight Studios out for a group spanking. Actually knocked a few devs out of my ass, I can look forward to no extra winning entries on the weekly contest thanks to that. (though who doesn't love a good spanking, eh?)

      0_1530229628188_ban2.jpg

So, the outcome of the mass admonition was to put everyone on notice that the next wrong move will result in Armageddon. And to ask everyone "why can't we just all get along?"

      0_1530229696132_kumbaya.jpg

Not sure I spelled that correctly, someone recently had a more fun take on that one 😉

    • RE: Two Words On Reporting, Leaderboards & Pre-Alpha. I'm tired.

Pre alpha is unlikely to find anything exploitable, though yes, if I get a key I intend to use it to make sure the game is ready for alpha. Will I try to crash the servers? Yeah, so that we can make sure they don't crash in Alpha. Will I try to find things that are broken? Yep, because you want an alpha to be successful, and Pre alpha is there so that you can get people to make sure the alpha is ready to open.

Don't want to open up an alpha with a lot of bugs and glitches, that's a waste of time, at that point anyone who would be looking for exploits won't bother if they can't sort out basics before then.

So what you've been discussing may be true for alpha, but not likely at all for Pre alpha, that would be like shooting yourself in the foot.

@ghostrider said in New Ultima Online?:

I'm looking for somethig that reminds me of UO too. Best game ever

Legends of Aria is marketed as UO remade. Can confirm it's very much so, fun too. I played alpha, need to download the new client and see what's changed.

    • RE: Let's help design the game!

Muker this is the discussion section. I'm willing to discuss player led ideas, this is the right place for it. Always nice to have in one place.

One thing I'd like to see is rare, traveling npc/mobs/monsters/resources that are not raidable without a lot of planning and effort by the players working together.

Take the idea of a gold caravan moving from one goblin town to another. We know where the towns are and can raid the towns, but we'll have more loot in the caravan, which is more heavily guarded and pulled by a monster that has a horn useful in crafting but super rare. The monster is normally only available on tartaros in a very dangerous area, where it would be very hard for beast men for example to get to in the numbers needed to take it out.

So they plan to go to syndesia and set up a camp near the goblin towns waiting for the caravan, and set spotters up. Call their guild mates when it comes and plan to attack. Meanwhile there are demons laying in wait to plunder them the moment they succeed so they have had to hire mercenaries from syndesia as protection duty.

I'm also quite certain that the asteroids will work as instances that will require players to work in community in this fashion. For one, I'm sure humans will be able to build some tech to get there, but how demons or beast men can without hasn't been answered.

    • RE: Different Races can play toghther?

      Yes you can play together.
First, you get more than one character so why not play more than one race? This way you can run with them while deciding which is the most fun to play. If that still happens to be opposing races then consider changing alignment so they can live together.

Turn your demon into an angel, or your beast into an abomination. Turn everyone neutral and live on syndesia but go home when required, you'll be able to collect resources from 3 planets where otherwise you'll be more limited.

Some things will be easier if you're the same race, but if willing to work to be together it could be very rewarding to be different ones.

    • RE: New Ultima Online?

@holyhong okay, you'll be able to rest and prepare to do different things when you are rested, but your attributes will remain the same. I can imagine that if you are a fighter, you'll set your attributes so that you will be good at the style of fighting you prefer to engage in. You'll go out in the world intending to gather the knowledge required to run that as well as you can, and are less likely to be looking around for the knowledge needed to be a great crafter.

You might be able to do some basic things but in this game with the way the player driven economy will be, you'll probably prefer to go kill things and trade what you get in order to get gear. Otherwise you'll have to spend time running around looking for things to make it, and furniture with and you won't be able to spend as much time running around fighting. So you'll find a good crafter and employ them in your guild and put them to work, giving stuff to them so that they can make it for you and your guild mates while you run around killing stuff.

So yeah, I really don't see anyone but completionists gathering every single bit of knowledge so that they can do everything. Nor do I see people who prefer to pvp doing their own crafting when they can get another player to do it.

What race are you thinking of? I would happily add a crafter to my guild.

    • RE: Extension of: Alpha 1 Please Line Up!

I intend to try out as many game mechanics as I can, and am hoping for regular wipes. At one point they said it would likely be restricted to one race at a time, starting with humans, though that could be just the pre-alpha testing. I think for testing purposes though, it's really a good idea to see how many of us there are, and try to have as many of us working together as possible, checking out how the different races work with the different alignments against each other, ensuring that there is balanced gameplay for all once the game opens up. I'll be trying to find out if there is anything that is grossly exploitable, anything broken, and making suggestions on what tweaks need to be made. I also intend to track what I learn along the way for my guildmates once they join, at the moment, there's only a few of us in alpha 1 though that may change after we get more info in the upcoming and missing spotlights.

They mentioned they MAY be adding in the ability to respec incase someone gimps their toon. If this is the case and they don't intend to wipe often in alpha, then I'm hoping they do allow respecs at least during the testing phase so that we can make SURE that everything is working as intended.

      0_1530061078347_Capture.PNG

First, if you haven't shared the kickstarter with your friends then you need to. Share it to friends, family, fellow gamers! If you have any reason to think you may find someone who is interested in the game and willing, get them excited about it now! Tell them what you love about it, tell them why they have to get on board with you, and then make SURE they sign up on the forum with your referral link. Keep talking about it, get them excited too, if THEY start referring people, THEY get points and level up, and you get points for them leveling up too! (plus, more gamers here is good for all of us)

      0_1530061169495_Capture.PNG

Beat the snot out of those friends who sign up but forget to use your link. (@Madboots I'm talking about you here) Make them feel really terrible every time you see them. Follow them on the forum so that you can see their level and be certain to let them know just exactly what reward tier you're going to miss out on because they signed up without using your ref code. You don't need to be nice to them anymore because of the BETRAYAL they committed. Smite them, but make sure they know you want to take your revenge in game.

      0_1530061347675_Capture.PNG

So, for those who did use your code, be sure to harass them regularly. Send them a link to the news every time a new one is shared. Check their levels on your recruit page and make sure they are climbing! If they aren't, let them know where to find the quests, and how to do them. Make sure they know HOW to find page two of the foundation quests, some of them may take a good 9 months to find it on their own. (@Aburrobb I'm sorry that I didn't know you were struggling so hard with this, I would have helped you if I had only known!) Try not to sound too condescending with the ones that need a little hand holding, just remember some people are special.

      0_1530061026733_Capture.PNG

I have been known, to link my recruits who need the most help, (@Wombat) every single thing they need to do step by step, tell them to join a guild if they haven't yet and link them to mine, tell them to create a hero, and make sure they check their emails AND click on them to their overview page so that they can get you your points!

You'll have to keep going back to the ones who you KNOW are going to love the game, and show them why the Foundation Points matter. It may take months of harassment and sharing with them till they finally catch on to how cool this game is going to be, and finally, join the Foundation and start trying to gain some points (and therefore prizes) For the most reluctant, or those who have let you ramble on but haven't clicked any links, or listened to you, THESE are the people who most need to see the Kickstarter right now. THESE are the people you need to let know, what package you bought, what package their other friends have bought, how you don't want them to be left behind. You know they're going to get there eventually, but why should they start missing out on points now when they're only going to kick themselves in the future? (also ones to start linking what to do for fast points now, do ALL the quests and they'll be over lvl 30 fast, then can start collecting a small amount of daily points, and do more quests as they come along)

      0_1530061424594_Capture.PNG

You can get a max of 500 points for the first 10 recruits, then 450 max for any after that. Expect to get some people to join just to be nice to you, who may not actually do any of the foundation quests, and ignore all of the mail, they're just there to make you feel good. It's the ones who are willing to go the extra mile to give you more points, that you need to focus on here! These people might actually PLAY THE GAME WITH YOU TOO!

I find that it's really great to have recruits who know each other, and you can point out the ones who haven't leveled up as fast as those who have, and spur them to compete against each other for higher points. All the while you're not only gaining points from them, you're gathering together friends who will become hyped about the game and want to play with you once it opens!

And if you have a loved one, who you are forcing to play with you anyway, (@Viketap ) feel free to walk them through everything they need to do to make you happy. Believe me when I tell you it sucks to have more stuff than someone else just cause you did the work and they didn't, when they were right there beside you all along. Just nudge them regularly and remind them, so they can get a lot of the same stuff.

Every person has a different thing that excites them. Some just like the style of the game, some love the story. Some just want to play whatever their friends are playing. I have one friend who died over the skeleton dragon pet on the kickstarter page and committed simply for that. I have another freaking out that the game WILL be on Linux. (they'll wait but I'm still working on them to join the Foundation now, to start collecting those points!)

      0_1530060921012_Capture.PNG

Oh, and if you're in the top 100 on the Leaderboard already? Feel absolutely free to make certain to your friends that you do need every single point to keep the rank you have. It's what I'm doing!

And if all else fails, beat them into submission.

I've been adding to the first post above, once it's close to alpha time, we should have a good list of who's in it, that is also active on the forums. Just consider this a bump so we can get more people joining to start looking for on the forums or on the discord.

    • RE: New Ultima Online?

I've been following since September, and any of my gaming friends who I've convinced to try it out, I tell them it reminds me like someone took Diablo/Fable and crossed it with UO, then added city building to it.

As everything is going to be crafted, I'm sure there will be the need for someone who enjoys that to be making and selling/trading gear or whatever in the towns. I don't think it's going to be a "new" UO though. (perhaps you may want to check out Legends of Aria in the meantime?)

The scope of this game, and the unique interplanetary connections, separate it from UO more than anything though, the storyline here, the horizontal progression and the way the environment plays such a huge role in the game depending on race choices and travel needs let alone knowledge and skill progression, set it miles apart.

I'd say, if you loved UO back in the day, LoA is a really close approximation. But, if you want more than the old grind and gank, then this game really offers a shit ton more. (saying this as an old UO player here too) The promise of this one is something for everyone, and we're all hoping it's going to live up to that.

Dig into the forum and the spotlights for sure, keep an eye out hopefully soon for that crafting one, and the city management one, I'd say you'll fall in love.

    • Questions about Carpenter

Will I be able to assign, and reassign my carpenter to maintenance of any building of my choosing? What if it is not my building, but a guild building, or one owned by a member of my guild? What if it's just a friend of mine who doesn't have their own carpenter, can I let them use mine if I'm somehow not wanting the convenience, or wanting to be nice to them? Say I have a lifetime carpenter, but decide to quit the game, would I be able to post my carpenter at the home of a friend to keep it working as a last friendly thing to do? Say I have a lifetime carpenter but my closest gaming partner does not, can I swap my carpenter between our buildings in order to make life easier for them, even if it makes it a little harder for me?

If I get a kickstarter pledge pack for someone that doesn't have lifetime carpenter, will they be able to upgrade just the carpenter during the fundraising on the website? Will they be able to upgrade after the fundraising period is over? Will players be able to upgrade once the game starts?
