@gothix as far as I know mobs will drop just money, rare resources and reliques. You may identify reliques and discover things also gear piece or weapon piece used by crafters. I'm sure that will not drop equipable items.

According to what @Nelchael posted, the way it's worded, "You might be able to recover equipment item from a corpse of creature you've defeated. It might be enchanted (but this means it also might not). IF it's enchanted you wont be able to use those special powers before identifying them."

The way that's worded could mean that you might get equippable items of creatures, they might even not be enchanted. IF they are you will not be able to benefit from enchants, which still doesn't mean you can't use unidentified sword to swing it for physical damage, just without benefiting from it's special magical powers.

And ffs no, you don't have to wait 30 minutes. If running back to a save spot is a waste if time in your opinion, then don't play any games with survival elements in them!

^ Basically this. Accept the type of game you are playing or go play something else, more in tune with your needs, like Hello Kitty Online, or something similar. 🙂

I prefer playing games with challenge. So the more danger from various sources, means I have to pay attention more, I have to be social, and actually play a MMO, and not carelessly like some farmville game.

I understand that some players want to minimize the difficulty of a game, to reduce the challenge and danger, but hey, we are not all the same I guess.

But you should understand, this is MMO and not a solo game, even if devs promised solo players they will have some content to do in here. They did not however promise them a solo game free of danger.

      1. what safe spot will you have on demon world?

      2. if you want to play that type of game why don't you go to Albion or some other PvP crap game?

      1. For starters your housing, then any city well protected with guards (where you are practically safe), maybe something else.
      2. I dont need to go anywhere because this is THAT type of game. At least on Syndesia and Tartaros.

    • RE: WoW Classic is coming

I am a veteran WoW player, and I played retail since first vanilla release until the Lich King (around 5 years) at which point i quited retail because I didn't like the path at which wow was going.

After that I spend additional years playing on private vanilla wow servers, for nostalgia, and for social aspect.

I honestly don't know if I will venture into wow classic... I know already it will be different than old retail vanilla, even mechanically in some aspects. They are changing some things around.. I'll just add an example of changing parry cap to 14% for warriors at raid bosses, which will make raid bosses parry more against tanks, and each parry triggers increased attack speed gained by boss for a while.. which will then hit harder on tanks.

(Many casual players don't know half these things, even if game was out for so many years, for example... most melee players still think that you have to stand behind raid boss only because so you could use "attacks that only work from the back", and so that boss wouldn't cleave you to death, while being completely oblivious to the fact that the most important reason to stand behind the boss is so he wouldn't parry your attacks - he can't parry from behind - so that resulting speed increases he gains wouldn't kill the tank).

Many of those little things are getting tweaked for new classic, and classic will mechanically be different experience than retail vanilla was in old days.

Many of those changes are still kept hidden by Blizzard, and will not be revealed at all (unless discovered by players), so we can't say for certain how the things in new classic will look like yet.

Content wise, it will remain the same, and since I played this content for years, again and again, this aspect is not appealing to me anymore... perhaps I would join during first month or two, for low level world PvP while zones will be filled with people rushing back to wow for nostalgia, and when I reach 60 I might retire from there, as I raided everything to the death already and from that point on, there is nothing new for me to see, content wise.

Class advices for those of you that wish to venture there:

Warlock - best all around class choice. Is good at everything, PvP, raiding, dungeons,... and if Blizzard ever decides to expand classic with retail TBC again, warlock is the TOP class in TBC without any competition.

Mage - good all around character, but bit boring to play in raiding, basically you will only spam frost bolt button from MC until AQ40... however, its a great class for AoE grinding, and preety fun to play in PvP. Future wise, in TBC it becomes not so great class to play.

Hunter - the best class for leveling, and for solo (single target) grinding. It can also hold it's own in PvP. However in raiding, post MC, it scales very poorly, and you will never be anywhere near the top of DPS charts in raids. So if that's important for you, do not chose hunter.

Warrior - slow leveler, but great to play at max level. Can hold it's own in PvP, and needed class for raiding (great DPS if played as DPS, and the only real tank). For raiding warrior is really rewarding class choice. However, you are adviced to have a different grinding alt then, as warrior is not the most effective grinder compared to some other classes.

Rogue - leveling efficiency greatly depends on keeping your gear up to date, as without that it's a pain to level a rogue. At max level rogues are great in raids, and can also be fun in PvP (for people that have patience to stealth around looking for opportune targets).

Priest - the best healer in vanilla, and is also good character to play in PvP. Priest is also a good choice, but consider that in raids you will have to be a healer, and changing specs between healing and DPS/PvP can get pretty expensive if you wish to do both regularly.

Shaman - you will be asked to be a healer in raids, DPS shamans aren't that good in vanilla. Can be great utility class for PvP, if you want to be a PvP healer, Shaman is a great choice. Will require a lots of micro management though.

Druid - you will be asked to be a healer in raids, tanking druids are less valued in vanilla due to some mechanical disadvantages over warriors. Druid is a hybrid class, which is decent for solo play, but not so good for raiding where you have to specialize in one role, druids are taken to raids because of buff they cast, combat ress and innervate, but you will not heal better then priests do.

Paladin - you will be asked to be a healer in raids, due to some mechanical disadvantages over warriors in vanilla. Paladin is pretty decent class to play if you don't mind being a healer, its invaluable in raids due to great auras it offers to players in your raid. Do not expect to ever be a tank or DPS in raids, and even if raids let you, you will perform mediocre in those roles at best.

      1. I didn't know that on Tartaros you get a house for free. Not sure about city guards protecting you there as well.
      2. I disagree 🙂

Dude did you even read the spotlights? o.O I don't know how to comment on that...

      1. You can build the house anywhere in the world. You just need to collect resources and you can build it. And your house will be a safe spot. Yes, this includes Tartaros...
      2. Tartaros is FFA PvP, so if you don't believe it, GL to you. I don't know what to say to you. Syndesia is also open PvP, it's just that with murdrerer and thief flagging you might draw some extra attention to yourself, but you can still attack whoever you want and loot him.

So you can disagree how much you want mate, but this isn't your typical PvE game where you can be safe in the wilderness. This is why we need logout timers to prevent "overly sensitive folk" abuse the system by logging out safely when there is danger. I know this is not to your liking. What can I tell you?

They are making the game solo friendly, so it will not be as difficult as you would hope.

However, I do hope that at least a part of content will be difficult and require well organized groups, and player skills, so that only like 20% of player base (on average) is able to do it.

Not everyone should be able to do everything, otherwise whats the point if there is no competitivness. Competitive crowd will just leave and play something else.

I'm also of the opinion you can be killed on your plot, or even inside your house if you are careless to leave the door open, or let someone untrusted in. I do believe, however, that if you go inside your house and lock yourself inside, no one can unlock the door, come in and kill you. I doubt other people will be allowed to open the door of your house (unless you allow them in some house settings UI).

      orc warlock

Orc Warlock is basically the best combo you can be in vanilla.

Lots of folks go for an Undead Warlock, but (being a warlock) other casters aren't your main enemy, it's rogues. So having 25% stun resist as an Orc is imho more useful than having undeads WoTF.

Warlocks are also good for all content: PvP, dungeons, raiding and solo play... so you can't go wrong with a warlock choice. And being a horde, you don't have to deal with other undead (WoTF), so you will have as smooth experience as you can. 🙂

why anyone other then devs would be against adding WASD as a SECOND option for movement is beyond me. Can any of you explain?

WASD would allow for more dynamic combat, that requires you to give more constant input, but also gives you more in return.

For this reason players that aren't competitive don't want to see this implemented to the game, because they want to keep playing game on "easyer mode" and they don't want anyone else that chooses to play on "competitive mode" have advantage over them simply because they are lazy and they would like to play the game with only one hand. 😉

just so you know - if you don't build a house you don't have it! For sure it shouldn't be required to play to build a house.

Yeah, but then that's your own problem, and not a problem of game mechanics. You are free to build or not, but don't blame anyone else if you don't and then don't get to reap it's benefits. 😉

    • RE: WoW Classic is coming

      About choosing your race:

If you are NOT a min-maxer then it doesn't matter, because you will likely more enjoy your game play if you simply chose the race based on your aesthetic affinities.

If you ARE a min-maxer then there is a lot more to consider then simply looking at racials...

For start, every race has different base attributes, and different attributes benefit certain classes more (table below):
      VanillaStats.jpg

Of course you will also look at your racials, but you should consider skill bonuses WAY more important then actual racial spells (that most people prioritize). Examples are Trolls +5 to bows or human +5 to swords/maces.

This is important in the endgame, when your weapon skill determines how often you will miss (important for fighting raid bosses), and +5 from your racial can mean that instead of 2-3 items of your gear with "+hit" on it, you can equip items with crit (or something else) instead that can then increase your raid DPS or tanking effectiveness (observe table below):
      HitTable.jpg

For example, as an orc hunter (300 bow skill) you need 9% hit on your gear to be hit capped (to get maximum DPS, and so that your tranq shots do not miss) while troll hunter with a bow will have 305 (due to racial bonus) and only need 6% hit to be capped. That means he will be able to have 3 gear items with crit more than an orc hunter, while still being hit capped.

This is valid for other classes, and other weapons as well.

There are also other factors to consider, some examples are Taurens bigger hit box window, or Gnomes low height preventing them being targeted by damage (but also healed) due to LOS issues, at same spots where higher races would not have this issue.

As a min-maxer there is LOT more to consider then simply looking at racials, so for a good answer at what race is best for you you should actually do some decent research yourself, and not trust most answers given to you on web by noobs (that think they are smart) who only look at part of this factors (hell, most of them are looking racial skills only)...

      Hope this helped. 😉

@Finland I actually enjoy a mix of PvE and PvP a lot. It makes things less dull, less boring, specially after game is already "live" for a while.

PvE gets dull and repeatable after a while of doing it, killing same boss in same way over and over. Having to deal with PvP while doing it gives something fresh and different to each fight.

It's just better then isolating PvE to stand on it's own. At least in my opinion.

      @tulukaruk said in Switching Characters:

@gothix so you think all players should be forced to do PvE if they want more then 1 character? 😉 Players that just want to do PvP shouldn't be forced to do PvE. Same as players that want PvE shouldn't be forced to do PvP (while PvE players can be attacked they shouldn't have to look for victims to attack to progress in the game).

All players should be "forced to" PvX if they want to max out their possibilities.

Players that only do PvP or that only do PvE should be at disadvantage compared to players that do full PvX.

What you wanna do is your choice, but player that "does" more than you should "have" more than you (in all aspects).

Players today are too entitled and mistake games as products where they can do what the hell they want, and everything should be tailored to their needs because "they payed for it".

Sadly many devs actually try to serve these entitled players that way and then games end up being an absolute crap. It's been decades since I played a decent game due to this.

I certainly hope devs here will be smart enough to not listen to entitled player demands and ruin one more potentially great MMO.
