    • RE: Alpha and resets

After each test, your characters get deleted and you have to make new characters. That test runs, and then a new test goes and you make a new character all over again and start from the beginning.

Resets don't just happen between Alpha and Beta, and then Beta and Live, but rather between every test until they say otherwise. At some point, they may want to test something of a more ongoing nature and its effects, at that point, they will let us know, but otherwise, assume whatever you build in the current test will go away and you'll be starting from scratch in future testing.

I'm sooooo looking forward to this test, and streaming it on my Twitch channel. I've already told all my regulars that during Alpha testing, Fractured gets to supercede all but 1 of my scheduled shows(that being my TTRPG show, RPG College that runs 2 hrs twice a week)

Really cited about changes and CITIES!!!

    • RE: Abilities interactions?

@Sronzer well, the answer to 3 is YES. The main difference between a totally new character, and a character playing say 6 months or a year would be Talents, Skills, and Equipment, and this game isn't going to have the super-gear that something like WoW or EQ had to throw the balance way off.

    • RE: Where is the Feature Spotlight dedicated to Technology?

Since we're only getting to Alpha test Humans at the moment, it would be a bit silly to jump ahead to those features that balance out the humans to the other races. I think the company is smart in holding off on addressing any kind of direct spotlight on such features until testing starts on other races in the game, so that we can then contrast those other races with the humans and the tech that is supposed to put them on an even footing.

Yes, we've been waiting since 2017 for more info, but there has been steady improvement, and steady testing once that started, with actually far far less down-time than most games of this type usually have. They seem to be making progress, albeit a little slower on some things than some people might have originally expected. The thing is, they really do need to get the CORE of the game nailed down, which they are already starting to do with Combat, House-building, and Skills already started, Town Building and Talent Trees next, so give it time.

I know we're all chomping at the bit to get as much out of this game as possible, there was a big promise to this game, over many others out there, and we who kickstarted the game really want to see that fruit of our dreams spring from the bowers of the Dev's imagination. Just let the fruit ripen properly before you ask to bite into it, will ya?

    • RE: New World by Amazon - Anyone interested?

I've been playing MMOs for years. I played Ultima Online, Beta-Tested EverQuest, and I'm back to playing Old School RuneScape now, just to name a few.

You play MMOs to have a huge open, ever changing world. Some of us, myself included, prefer to 99% of the time, tackle that world and its various tasks solo. I want to see other players playing, interact with them, trade, and yes, even group on occasion, but I feel the best MMOs out there make sure that the entire content of the game can be enjoyed whether you enjoy playing as a group or a solo player. This is one reason I was not a huge fan of WoW. Besides being quest driven, it also had several specific quests/raids that necessitated a minimum number of players go in to take on the baddy. This could be ignored, if taking on said Baddy wasn't part of an almost mandatory quest chain to get past a certain point in your character development, but in WoW, that wasn't the case.

Now, EverQuest did it pretty good when they brought in the Dungeon Instances, were you could do a short term looking for group raid of a specific dungeon, but the dungeons themselves were extras, and not required in order to progress your character along.

A great MMO needs to remember there are both Solo'ists and Raiders out there, and cater to them both. If someone just wants to sit and craft all day long, they should be able to do just that. If they want to take on the monsters of the world, on their own schedule, without having to group to do it, that is also viable.

    • RE: May 2020 Playtest Review

@Logain couldn't have said it better myself. Developers need time to Develope, which is why they have community managers and such, because the Devs can't constantly be taking time out from the meat and potatoes of the game design just to throw together videos for us patrons. If they do that, 1. The development schedule will suffer, and/or 2. The quality of the videos will be way sub-par and not reflect the game at all, making them worse than useless, the become detrimental to the success of the game.

    • RE: Dùath port town of Arboreus

I know I speak for my sister when I say that we welcome those who are willing to grown this new town into a home! It will involve hard work and sacrifice of much of our normal alone time as wanderers, but the end result should be a town we can be proud to call home. A welcome warm bed after long days on the trails, in the wild, and a hearty round of mead in the local tavern...

I shall look forward to raising a glass in the honour of our town's completion! Huzzah

    • RE: Dùath port town of Arboreus

I too wish to humbly put forth my hat for a chance to build the greatness of the future town of Duath.
It was with a joy I did not know I could contemplate that I heard my reclusive sister, @StormBug had found herself a home that would accept her in her wandering ways. I had feared my own more reclusive bent had unjustly condemned her to a life of loneliness always on the road, not something meant for just anybody, and definitely less than I wanted for her.
With the news, I made haste unto you so I might join my sister in this, for it has been many a sunrise that I have spent in the wilds of Arboreus without my sister's smile to greet me with the sun.
Thus, I swear to work tirelessly to help forward the growth and prosperity of this new home if I am permitted inclusion within its environs.

I'm currently killing time playing console games, and some Old School Runescape, been years so it's like a brand new game for me again...graphics are horrid, of course, but still not bad gameplay considering it's from 2001

    • RE: Bit confused. No playable version?

I get you, but they did comment when they suspected it might run into July...they never said when in June it would be, so they had time to work on the next test, instead of being 'proactive' as you say and spending more time reassuring us. They had hoped that they would iron out the wrinkles in time for the June release, but they have finally said it will more than likely be July. I would far rather they focused in and tried to make their soft deadline than break from working on the project to come in and update us when they don't have a definite date and they are hoping to still release it in June...or push it into July...it was only just now that they admitted defeat on the June target. What's great about their roadmaps is that they give us an idea of when they will come out with the next stage, but they don't set themselves ironclad dates so there is no constantly pushing back the goal posts. They said June, that means if it launched on June 30th, it would still be on time, and most of us wouldn't even fault them for launching around July 1-3rd without having changed to June forecast as you generally give about a week either way wiggle room in my opinion.

I guess my longwinded reply basically means...they are better in this case to be Reactive to the Forumites rather than Proactive. They were proactive by setting down a roadmap, and making sure the goalposts on that roadmap were soft goalposts...then they can comfortably be reactive without disappointing their viewership/playerbase

    • RE: Bit confused. No playable version?

Actually, I would call the Developers response times amazingly fast and accurate. Test just ended in May (and actually overflowed into June slightly) and already they predicted the next test in June, and then told us it quite possibly could be pushed into July over 3 weeks ago. That's not a lot of down time at all really. It is more like unreasonable expectations were out there, when people thought Alpha 2-Test 3 would start the 1st or 2nd week in June, after just finishing Test-2??? they have to have some time to work on implementation.

If all had gone to plan, we'd have had less than 1 full month of downtime, most games would not even have given an update yet in that amount of time, so they are pretty Johnny on the Spot when it comes to keeping backers/testers informed. The devs are always on the forums, even while working hard to get the game up and running. 1 update a month is actually a lot more than I would expect from a game in Alpha still. When I Beta-tested EverQuest back in the day, we would go sometimes 2 to 3 months without getting an update on things, and between stages of testing could be as much as 6 months to a year as they implemented new code.

    • RE: Bit confused. No playable version?

@Amuck When a game is in Alpha, it will often be down for months at a time while new elements are incorporated into the game. This game, they actually keep the game up much more in the Alpha stage than most. It is to be expected that there will be delays implementing new stuff, often unforeseen delays.

Technically, although we're in the last full week in June, next week is the Last week in June, and if you consider most launches have been Thursday thru Saturday as the start dates of tests, you still have a couple days before the June anticipation would be overwith...of course, Spectre just confirmed that it will be delayed into July, no biggy...

Trust me, most of us are chomping at the bit to get back in and play the game, especially those of us who also Stream their Alpha/Beta testing on Twitch and elsewhere. That being said, I know for me, I'd much rather have a more fully implemented new feature or 3 to play around with than having them send us in early and having to take everything down right away n to patch it.

    • RE: How will you be making your $$$?

The game is going to be different things for different folks. Some Guilds will transcend planetary limitations through cooperation and out of game alliances, some will strictly adhere to such conventions, and some won't be bothered to get into the middle of it and adopt a live and let live philosophy about it.

You can certainly take your toys from the sandbox and go home if it doesn't meet your expectations, that is always your prerogative, just remember that nothing ever sticks totally to the anticipated plan, and the game itself has to veer towards what pleases the most players overall, and as can be seen in the guild profiles, super-guilds are already forming, and that's from some of the highest level backers, it's not like the devs are going to disappoint all those high level backers for the disgruntlement of only a few.

I created my guild to contain my old friends and D&D buddies, a very friendly, relaxed guild, but even we are planning how we can monetize our guild in game for the most impact. Some will offer exotic material trading, some will hire out as mercs, some may help quick build houses and towns...the sky is truly the limit in this game, as it should be!

    • RE: May 2020 Playtest Review

I chose Mounts and New Creatures I think it was when I did the survey. Mounts would be great to get around faster on, for sure, but more monsters is more variety of drops, attack types, and new monsters on the screen, which I love as well

    • RE: How will you be making your $$$?

Unfortunately, although it might ruin it for some people, cross-species guilds would be a huge draw for others, and it would be silly for them to actually put something like that into the TOS. In fact, outlawing it would only drive such guilds underground and make them more appealing to some types of players, like back in the day when buying and selling gear on ebay was frowned upon in EverQuest...it only got bigger and more lucrative. The best thing they could do is simply allow such guilds, but make them difficult to implement and maintain.
