    • RE: Discord Update Not posted anywhere else

Also remember, there is an expectation when something is posted as a Kickstarter update or a post in the News section. These announcements are considered official. As such, they can't just be a copy/paste of a Discord post, they must be proofread and formatted as a professional announcement. A longer process than many may realize.

As Logain said, this is more of a 'Heads up, keep an eye out for more'

    • RE: Best Guess Summer Alpha?

They haven't wasted any of their money on such a communications officer so far.

They have given us several updates in different places as they have gone along, including making a major announcement about getting more money right before the last Alpha started. The do communicate with us, but it is mostly in direct forum feedback and discord posts. I don't really like Discord, so I don't follow those posts, but they repost the important ones to my discord so I still get to see them. Like you, I wait for Kickstarter and News Tab updates to be posted for most of my info, plus I'm Highly active on the forums, where I think I get most of my own personal feedback from the devs.

Maybe they 'should' have such a communications person, but they didn't prioritize that position when they needed more coders more than that. I applaud that overall choice, much as I'd love the updates, I'd love to see the game worked on more.

@Jetah He only explained on Discord, not via Kickstarter or the News tab on the website.

Sometimes it is quicker and more efficient just to shoot off a quick statement on discord than it is to compose a release for the News and/or Kickstarter update alerts, and if your like me, you'd rather they spend their time on the game than constantly stop to do such 'quick' updates in 3 or 4 places.

    • RE: Spell Damage increase ability

      No, not so far.

In fact, damage by magic is classified by element or spell damage, and spell damage increase doesn't increase all elemental spells, only those who's damage says it is 'spell damage' and the same thing goes for resistances.

@Dalmantes I hear you, I'm not a huge fan of most MMOs out there anymore, I always hated WoW, I couldn't get into Albion Online, etc...

I do play Old School RuneScape and Progressive Server EverQuest because they harken to the days of yore when MMOs were new and fresh and far less toxic.

Fractured can be an amazing game, but it is good to occupy your time in between, and games like Old School RuneScape have a free play option. For Progressive servers though, EverQuest requires membership.

    • RE: Play Free, Win A Key - The Contest

      @OldMule

      1. I just read through your 'Competition Act' for Canada, and you totally don't even understand the document your referring to. This document involves competition in the business market, with an additional subsection for sporting events and has nothing at all to do with the regulation of At-will no cost entry sweepstakes or other incentivized offers.
      2. As I stated previously, in the case of multiple sub-categories in such a 'good faith' sweepstakes kind of format, it is in fact considered the company hosting said competition's right to terminate said conditions on any subsection of the sweepstakes for lack of participation, and further, it is assumed, whether you see it explicitly or not, that a minimum participation of at least 3 entries is needed to constitute a viable category.

Nowhere in the documentation for the Competition Act does it even address such sweepstakes and you are just throwing around legalese for your own personal aggrandizement I guess.

Further, as this sweepstakes is for 'virtual property' which international law has already set to a valuation of 'nil' so as to prevent 3rd party reselling of said virtual properties as in the case of many MMOs disallowing the sales of in-game currency, this doesn't fall under the Canadian jurisdiction for international trade, as no actual product or service is being offered within the Canadian Territories. The given resale valuation of 'nil' prevents it from falling under those classifications.

The company can sell their memberships, and do a whole lot in the cyberspace territory the game exists within, but only the company can assign an actual valuation or profit from said valuation if it is set to 'nil'

Either way, this was a good-faith friendly in-game promotion, not a legally binding competitive agreement either, and as such, you wouldn't have any legal recourse anyway. Just suffice it to say, not enough people participated for them to go through with that subcategory, so whether they announced it or not, the company used their optional discretionary power to 'call off' or 'cancel' that category's eligibility for reward for lack of participation sufficient to justify its inclusion.

    • RE: Play Free, Win A Key - The Contest

@OldMule Just an aside, but in most contests where there are several subcategories, there is usually something in the rules about any category that doesn't get at least 3 entries doesn't pay out any prizes. I'm unsure if this contest had that rule or not, but even when not explicitly stated, it is often an accepted practice so that there is no 'win by default' in an individual overlooked category. Food for thought, but it is considered reasonable business practices.

    • Play by Post 5e D&D game

Okay, the forums being so dead is driving me nuts. One of my favorite things to do is to catch up on what's going on in Fractured land with my internet peeps, so, I decided to create a Play-By-Post 5e style D&D game.

Now, I love DMing, don't get me wrong, but I want to play too, so this will be a Round-Robin style game, where everyone playing can take a stab at DMing part of the storyline as well. I'll set the opening scene below, and the next poster can respond to the prompt portion of the post, but also build on the story as it goes along.

'You awaken in a mist enshrouded chamber. Slowly, the mist begins to recede enough for you to see yourself in the pale defused light around, describe your character <Prompt>'

((My example, and also my response to the prompt above))
"Whoa, what happened, where am I?" looking down at myself, I notice the fine leather jerkin I'm wearing, dyed a rich blue color. My trouse are also leather, but in creamy soft brown. A scimitar hangs from my left side for a right handed draw, and a strap across my chest, when examined, reveals a fine wooden mandolin. I must be a minstrel of some kind, but I have no memories of the time before. As the mist recedes even further, I notice other forms starting to be revealed <Prompt>

    • RE: What are people playing while waiting for the next Alpha?

We tried online play, but my players just didn't feel motivated to show up on the internet, so we stopped after the first month or so. I'm immunocompromized, so I haven't gone back out to play as of yet, although I'm fully vaccinated. Our FLGS started games back up at the beginning of June, but I've yet to go. I could really use the stress relief, personally.

    • What are people playing while waiting for the next Alpha?

I don't know about you, but it's far to quiet here, so I thought I'd ask, what MMORPGs are people playing while waiting for another Alpha to come along?

Me, I'm playing both Old School RuneScape, and EverQuest (they have a couple new Progressive Servers, I'm on Mischief, so I get to play like back when I first started back in 1998-99 when I was a Beta Tester and then one of the first players)

    • RE: Progression / Learning system discussion

One of the points of this game is to not be too grindy.

This is why each monster has a finite cap on Knowledge Points, once you reach 100%, the only reason to kill one is for its unique reagents/materials if any, or to survive to get through their zones.

There is also a cap on Talents, at 60 points right now, however, there is nothing saying they cannot later add more talents in a specialized tree available to those who reached the initial 60 cap. Expanding the game at late game can add monster mobs, like on the asteroids, new reagents to combine to make new types of enchantments. There is so much they can do in the end game that doesn't have to involve grinding the same old mobs or going to PvP.

Add to that you have City management and infrastructure, all kinds of crafting they can add and refine, the game can grow horizontally for quite a bit without having to become redundant and boring. Add new things to do, new achievements to accomplish, and see where it goes from there.

    • RE: Progression / Learning system discussion

Also remember that Talent Point progression is accelerated during an Alpha test because you simply don't have as much time to do it as you will after release. I expect the Talent Tree and Skills to fill up a good deal slower once the game reaches its final form already, I'm sure the Devs are aware of this.

    • RE: Treasure Maps

Also remember, Fractured doesn't want to encourage Farming/Grinding for loot, which is what would happen if you put in lootable cosmetics. That is also one of their clearly stated goals.

How they plan to keep interest up in the higher end/late game I'm not sure, but loot drops of cosmetics is definitely not the direction I see them going.

    • RE: Best Guess Summer Alpha?

Wipes are after every test phase, Alpha and Beta, devs assured us of that, and it is standard at least in Alpha.

Exact date won't be known until it actually launches, but the devs should be giving us a "End of _______" or "in ________" message soon that will tell us around when to expect it. Generally there will end up being a delay enough that it will most likely be the end of the month listed or the beginning of the next even if they plan otherwise. (not their fault, they want us to test the best produce we can and unforeseen delays happen right before a new Alpha all the time)

Anyway, expect a roadmap soon, as that's the next thing they promised us, and the new anticipated window of when the next Alpha will start should be included in the Roadmap.

@SilentMoebius Last I heard, they were anticipating a 2023 release, but possibly late 2022, new Roadmap is supposed to be in the works.

    • RE: Treasure Maps

Actually, the devs have been quite open about this goal, and a majority of those who joined/backed the game I think did so because they wanted to support this idea and ideal.

What didn't work in Destiny 2 might work here because the focus is completely different. They do not want to do ANY pay-to-win content, so all kinds of cosmetics and skins and such will be what you buy outside the game. If it keeps the pay-to-win completely away from the game, most will be more than satisfied with the results.

    • RE: Treasure Maps

@FLeaLoD Cosmetic rares for house decor are intended to be bought in the Fractured store using foundation points or real-world money as an alternative to Pay-to-win systems. Everything for sale that way is cosmetic, so they are reserving those kind of bits and bobs for that store alone.

The only real trading they are wanting is Player based. I do believe the bits and bobs you buy in the Fractured store will be account bound so they won't even be secondary marketable.

    • RE: Treasure Maps

@Logain Except they pretty much said they weren't going to do any kind of salable loot. They did say you could buy/sell the Lost Tales, but other than that, they want the market to be about reagents, crafting materials, and finished crafted goods, and they didn't intend on putting in any other type of treasure that would take away from the player run economy.

    • RE: Treasure Maps

Since there isn't going to be any kind of real 'Treasure' to speak of, I doubt that Treasure Maps would fit into the vision of Fractured. Again, remember, this is a 100% player created economy, where as a game with Treasure maps generally lead to rare items and for the most part, players in Fractured already know what the sources are of the rarest items/reagents out there.
