    • RE: Non-Forum Players
      1. Guild Halls have been mentioned, we'll see on that.
      2. Small guilds are more about groups of friends joining up together than randomly just joining a guild. If you want to make a non-group of friends, growth by recruitment guild, then you need to invest the time/effort in a Webpage, Discord Server, Facebook Group, and join the Guild Recruitment forums.

In other words, your worried about something that truly isn't a worry. Smaller guilds aren't really about just recruiting people, and most people don't want to just randomly join a smaller guild, they want to join by seeing a member of that guild in action and liking how they play...so then they ask that player how to join their guild.

Are we talking big guilds (they use the recruitment tools out there) or little friendship guilds (usually not openly recruiting really anyway, and when they are ready to do so, then they use the tools too)

@Ultimate although possible, they pretty much stated elsewhere that although Fractured will be on Steam, it won't be until final release...no Alpha/Beta release to Steam is planned or intended.

    • RE: This idea will kill all games in the world It will make everyone in the world want to play Fractured

This has actually been done before, and it doesn't work out well.

Here's why: One of the main appeals to the buying and selling of in-game money/resources is the illicit nature of it. Shoot, Second Life allowed all kinds of virtual to real commerce, and it worked for a short while, but eventually degenerated down to another glorified chat program.

I remember back when I was playing EverQuest regularly. the appeal wasn't in buying and selling game money, it was in selling techniques for acquiring said money yourself, aka Plat Guides. I know, back in the 2000s, I was writing and selling a Plat Guide on Ebay making a modest amount, enough to keep up my game dues anyway.

Back in the Ultima Online era, the first major MMO, my buddy made enough selling in game gold that he bought his own Quiznos Franchise in California. Such things work, but they work mainly because there is either a strategy guide feel to the sale (Plat guides, for instance) on the legit side, or there's an illicit quality to the sale that appeals to a certain portion of the player base who prefers to pay their way ahead in a game.

Games themselves have also sold extra in-game resources and perks, becoming Pay-to-win games, which is a total disaster all their own.

As much as I didn't expect other races until probably last Alpha or into Beta, I think Prometheus said in an earlier post and video somewhere that they are trying for Beastmen in the next Alpha stage...but I've slept since then

@PeachMcD said in Int and Cha required stats? = Unbalanced?:

BUT!! In the last alpha I was playing a fighter, and realized that I honestly only needed/used a couple of spells/abilities regularly,

I'm glad someone other than me decided to bring this up first. The imagined need for mem. points could cause the phenomenon that the OP talks about, and so there are a few Min/Maxers out there who will play to that leaning, but there are also those who think outside the box and find a single ability to focus their fighter's style around, and build accordingly, not trying just to fill up their hot bar with skills/spells. Let's face it, fighters are not nearly as dependent on skills as they are on their ability to sustain/put out damage consistently. A tank build fighter, in fact, would probably only maybe use a couple of their abilities regularly, and rely on high defenses instead. With the ability to also respec with presets, one doesn't need every skill possible to be competitive.

    • RE: PvE vs PvP

The trouble is, GiaoCodex, what they are testing now is the interaction and ramifications of blending PvE and PvP on the same world, Syndesia.

When the game releases, hopefully these interactions will be ironed out, and for those who are 100% PvE-centric, wanting no hint of PvP whatsoever, there will be the planet Arboreus, the Beastman world.

The real crux is, most of the mechanical aspects of PvE are already pretty ironed out, and those that are still buggy aren't enough to dedicate a whole test phase to, or the bugs are caused by the introduction of new mechanics as they go into heavier testing. PvP and Interaction mechanics are not ironed out, so all the testing going forward are going to be at least partly PvP intensive, at least until they introduce the Beastmen into the testing phases.

    • RE: Int and Cha required stats? = Unbalanced?

@FibS And I didn't say 1 Skill builds, I said 1 skill to focus their style around.

Every character still gets the same 8 hot button spots on their character, and even with minimal INT, you can fill all of those slots, you just have to be choosy about the more expensive skills in memory cost and focus on just one or two per pre-set.

Almost every player I've seen uses 1 hot spot for bandages, so that leaves 7 afterall.

You simply have to balance your memory points around the 1 or 2 skills you really focus on in a build. Yes, other advantages to high INT do exist, like higher resistances and bigger effects from some skills/spells, but that doesn't mean a Fighter type out there running with a 10 or 12 INT will automatically be suboptimal.

I've never understood the Min/maxers anyway...it is generally more fun to go around and play a build that is fun and interesting, than one that is just supercharged to the point of boredom anyway.

Now, granted, I don't tend to play PvP, and the outlook for those who focus on PvP might be much more specialized to the point where having 3-5 of the heavier cost skills, as well as the higher resistances is vital for your survival, but I do know that clever fighters with the right timing when using abilities can often surprise 'powerhouse' opponents when they least expect it.

    • RE: Crafting Question

@FLeaLoD One variation on the Tech Tree upgrade scheme is if a City upgrades their Tech Tree, then those outside City Limits who have resident plots attached to a city can benefit from the upgraded Tech Tree.

Now, so new players no, Residents are NOT citizens, so the Governors cannot evict them, or control them in any real way. The only thing the Governors get out of Residents is they help make the Qualifications for City Upgrading, and the Governor gets a portion of the cost to buy your plot. The main other risk is if a city downgrades and loses its Tech Tree levels, thus you lose your access to higher level crafting, but most Cities will fight to maintain at least that, barring getting taken over by Sieges...AND Residents don't lose their plots if a Siege is lost, unlike Citizens, so you can go on with a new City Owner after a Siege is over, still reaping the benefits of the city's Tech Tree upgrades.

This is just one Schema, however, and they have played back and forth with how this works. The majority of the Governors are trying to get more power over Resident plots, so if they Siege a city and win, they can evict people and move their own Guildies/Allies in to the plots outside City limits (because inside plots are at a premium) and also they don't like the fact that their enemies could be Residents outside their city and gaining from their largess

Manufacturing is a Skill unlocked on a City Tech Tree. Only within City Limits can you make a crafting bench that will have access to that skill. Private homes outside cities are limited in what they can make as they don't have access to Tech Trees

@Eurav said in Int and Cha required stats? = Unbalanced?:

STR - Health, Armor (meele damage and carry weight are not really generally necessary stats)

In most games, you would be right about Carry Weight, but in Fractured, as I stated above, with having to carry everything from place to place, not being able to share your bank, plus the weight of things like rocks and sticks for campfires, carry weight actually does have more impact. If you get encumbered, your speed goes way way way down, even if you have a pumped up Dexterity, which could majorly affect you in PvE or PvP, not to mention, part of the reason for PvP in this player driven economy is to walk away with all the loot, and you want to be able to carry that loot safely to your own stash spots.

    • RE: Best Guess Summer Alpha?

Wipes are after every test phase, Alpha and Beta, devs assured us of that, and it is standard at least in Alpha.

Exact date won't be known until it actually launches, but the devs should be giving us a "End of _______" or "in ________" message soon that will tell us around when to expect it. Generally there will end up being a delay enough that it will most likely be the end of the month listed or the beginning of the next even if they plan otherwise. (not their fault, they want us to test the best produce we can and unforeseen delays happen right before a new Alpha all the time)

Anyway, expect a roadmap soon, as that's the next thing they promised us, and the new anticipated window of when the next Alpha will start should be included in the Roadmap.

    • RE: The Eviction/Refugee system ( Residential area solution for city takeovers )

@GreatValdus people pay for their plots outside of a city in the residential area because they want to Opt out of the Siege mini-game experience, among other reasons.

As Gothix said, in city residences are part of the siege and incentivize those players to defend the city and thus their homes and livelihoods.
Out of city residences are not part of a siege, and they go about their business. They are affected by the aftermath of siege, when the climate of the city they are outside of changes, but their homes aren't put at risk.

As I said in another post, guilds who join late and want to take over a city for the land around it would be better served by expansions to the game with new Continents and thus new Cities and Residential areas to populate, or, alternatively, if the Server reaches a certain occupancy level, a server split so that the population can be better served by the game.

Late game, as is, there is going to be a homeless population out there, period. That is, unless the game actually draws less total players than there are plots of land available. I don't think the system should be static either. A home that is abandoned should eventually be lost. Cities have to pay to upkeep their current level, AND build towards higher levels. Residential housing should have a small monthly or quarterly/annually charged upkeep cost that if it isn't paid puts the property in a state of disrepair, then if another due date comes around and they don't pay, they can then lose their deed to the land. This prevents 'dead' accounts from grabbing land and then deciding the game is not for them, but keeping said land locked up forever. Farms and Ranches need to be managed or they will fall into decay and be overrun as their livestock goes wild, and their plantings die off or overrun other fields like kudzu.

    • RE: Quest system

@Selfish trouble here is the whole 'in your opinion' paraphrase.

The Devs specifically are building Fractured to cater to those players who like group play, and also don't want to be compelled into group play. To many people, gaming is a type of disconnect therapy. They want to forget about other people for a bit and go off and do their own thing, but choose MMOs for the massive, dynamic worlds that allow for the occasional desire to group with friends. They don't want it to be mandatory, but they want it as an option on a whim, or even the option to join a group of anonymous strangers for an hour or two without having to switch characters/games.

Lost tales are already tied into the Legends, and there is only going to be a finite amount of KP in the game available, which means there is probably no plan to add in new Lost Tales for Quest purposes, or adding additional ways to acquire the lost tales.

Yes, there is some content that is going to be easier with a group, and the whole end-game thing is still to be revealed, but I find it refreshing to find a game that's not totally quest-driven, and instead does away with them for the most part. (the Quest-driven nature of WoW is what turned me off that game, and it's how they ruined EverQuest in my opinion, which is why I'm thankful for the progressive servers) but again, even I use the 'in my opinion' thing, it's all opinions, the Devs have just already expressed their opinion that Fractured doesn't need quests.

    • RE: Change to Syndesia, the true mix of PvE and PvP?

A possible compromise option to the whole time in jail thing, instread, the player gets a 'Chain Gang' flag, and they can go out into the world. Monsters can still kill them, but not other players. While they have the Chain Gang tag, the only loot they get to keep is food. Everything else else goes to pay off their bail. They lose the chain gang status when they turn in the equivalent loot. Might even make it like a fetch quest, where they have to produce a certain amount of something to get out, like 100 Coal.

The bounty hunter still gets half the loot value of the bail. The 'evil' player would be able to opt into this alternative system.

Regardless, he is usually pretty quick to respond on Discord so if he isn't right now, it means he's not gone on discord because of something keeping him away, be it family or coding.

@Kralith Angels, Abominations and Liches were not discussed, but Prometheus flat out said that you couldn't permanently relocate planets for Humans, Demons, and Beastmen.

One would assume that the exception would be if you became a different race, which is kinda what becoming an Angel, Abomination or Lich entails.
