Based on this individual sample case, I suspect game nerds are way better than regular people at riddles.
I stand by my statistical sampling method. 
Or it's nerds who resort to particular kinds of games because of riddles to solve there 
For example, I always liked cRPG's, RPG's, strategies, grew up on such games. And books. Not a genius myself, but still like to challenge my mind with what they can provide me with. Not in a min-maxing way, but in a way when you can try different things and actually get something out of them, while still RP'ing. And diversity and RP elements are what I'm actually expecting from Fractured
Many MMO's are a disappointment for me because of lack of aforementioned. Now I just keep myself busy with Dragon Age series and Pillars, mostly.
However, that Avalon riddle has me puzzled, can't come up with a sane answer involving both planks
