@needlehawk said in FibS's big dumb semi-curated NOT official "I want this kind of Beastman!" topic:

So, this might be in the far future, but if they ever put in islands on the map, it would be very cool to have a "selkie" beastman that could turn into a seal, and be the only one that could make their way to the islands. The islands might have harvestables found nowhere else, so they would have a monopoly on those.

That would be the good thing. The bad thing would be that selkies would have no other advantages, so they would be the worst beastman in battle. In other words, this race would be for someone who primarily wants to spend their time exploring and gathering, and participates in battle (both PVE and PVP) as little as possible.

That's a very interesting idea, especially since I don't recall any MMO where you could trade combat ability for exploration powers.

    • RE: What are you playing right now?

Ziggurat by Milkstone Studio. It's a roguelite FPS about mages trying to get to the bottom of the titular Ziggurat in order to get admitted to a prestigious order of extremely powerful murder-wizards.

I got it free from GOG and it gets really good after you start unlocking things. Despite the game being quite small, there's quite a variety in weapons, perks, per-battle modifiers and characters.

I'm enjoying it so much (on Easy mode) that I'm starting to regret a bit I haven't bought it with money.
On the other hand, my spending money is tight at the moment, so I'm glad I got such a great game for free. 😛

(By the way: Humble Bundle is giving away Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion for free until November 18th as long as you subscribe to their newsletter, go get it.)

I doubt gold spam bots will have housing.
(Or at least I hope that housing won't be that easy to obtain. I hope it requires some decent effort.)

Then again, grinding $THATSALOTTAMONEY worth of gold, and then regrinding it when one of your toons get banned, also requires a lot of effort.

I guess we'll see in the future whether Fractured will be big enough to attract gold sellers or not.

It looks similiar to albion, and I love such type of games.

Hmm... What do you exactly want from Fractured that you can't get from Albion?

      • "Albion but PvE"?
      • "Albion but with flat progression?"
      • Or do you simply want some variety in a subgenre you like? (I'm a temporarily-non-practising roguelike player, I understand. 😛 )

What do you think, do you need to post information here with the games which are given a limited time: free weekend, a week and the like.
      Spread or not?
(I would and it could spread here, but don't think it's a useful thing)

@muker said in Humble Bundle/ Free Game:

@oobenonioo I mean other projects that are distributed as " temporarily free"

I don't think posting these here is useful.

When somebody posts about a free game here, you end up getting a new, full game that you can play anytime in the future
if you see that post in time
and have 5 minutes to download the installer or tie the game to your store account.

When somebody posts about a free weekend here, you end up playing the first few hours of a game
if you see that post in time
and you see that post early enough to still have enough time to play it before the deadline
and you have enough time to download, install and play it
and your PC meets the minimum requirements at the current moment
and you feel like playing that specific game at that specific time.

Also, in more practical terms, the former is about getting a full game, while the latter is about getting a stressful demo a trial.

    • Heroes of the Storm has apparently entered a death spiral

For those who care about Blizzard's MOBA Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard made an announcement they are shifting devs from HotS to other projects, and that they are shutting down e-sports for 2019.
They are assuring the community that this is only a minor adjustment, but you don't make an announcement for a minor adjustment, so even people who don't care about e-sports are panicking ("HotS was already understaffed!", "They made similar announcement before they abandoned Diablo 3!").

That makes me sad. Even though I have barely played the game this year due to Real Life, it really was my absolutely favourite MOBA. The game did away with many peculiar abstract mechanics passed down from the original DotA and made them more tangible (walls, mercenaries, and map objectives instead of "tower will target heroes first", jungle gold gain, and Nashor/Roshan buff). Addition of mounts reduced annoying downtime, removal of last-hitting made the game less stressful, and replacing individual levels with a team-wide level nudged players from endless arguments over kill-stealing and babysitting your carry, to jolly co-operation. And, of course, there's also Abathur.

HotS showed me how incredibly enjoyable MOBA could be.

And now, it seems that 2018's spell of rough time (early-year removal of ammo on towers, mid-year broken match-making, late-year fort changes) is not going to end any time soon, and the game is going to be dead in a very near future.

      ...

I really hope Fractured won't die before I can binge on it properly. 😛

Is there any single feature of Fractured that stands out for you?

Still, here until budget and bones permit me to do more than watch from the sidelines.

Да, я только недавно послушал новость, что часть сотрудников перевели в другие отделы, кибер спорт убрали и все и них мол плохо, но это все из-за жанра, так как бороться с LoL и Dota 2 сложно.

You're replying in Russian about DotA 2 because it's a running joke in DotA 2 community that people keep running into Russians who only ever speak in Russian, yes? 😉
That's... that's the perfect meta joke, well played, I couldn't have thought of a better reply. 😄

@target said in Heroes of the Storm has apparently entered a death spiral:

This doesn't really suprise me. Blizzard is becoming more intertwined with Activision and seemingly more profit driven. Earlier in the year they held a company wide meeting and surprised employees with the announcement that one of their goals moving forward was cutting costs and saving money and putting more emphasis on showing growth. It explains their entry in mobile gaming; large amounts of money to be made for less costs.

Wow, I heard about the Diablo Immortal/Blizzcon debacle, but that insider knowledge is news to me.

Be honest with yourself - you don't kill for them, you would kill them anyway.

All people are selfish. There is no selfless act, even an "apparent" selfless acts are done just to make oneself "feel better", which is, in the end, also selfish reason.

An old episode of Friends comes to mind. 🙂

Ahh, yes, the old philosophical roomba of "altruism is actually good for you". I danced it many times. 😉

However, what I meant, we were going to kill these people anyway because we're a bunch of murderhobos, regardless of whether we could sacrifice their bloodied body parts to gods or not. Something along the lines of

Hey, gods, you're going to pay me 10,000$ to sleep with a whole bunch of hot hunks and/or gorgeous women, and then be fed chocolate ice cream? Oh no, what a terrible burden, the kind of things I have to endure worshipping you, you should elevate me to sainthood for my suffering.

(It was not one of my well delivered jokes this time...)

Sorry guys mabe im wrong but good lore you can find in games who becomes huge. Like wow. Small games doesnt have good lore

At first I wanted to say you're wrong, but then I realized you have a good point.

Lore is all the little details that build over time, the flavour text that the authors can put in spaces that would be a precious commodity in a smaller work, the dandruff and dust of half-mentioned ideas and contradictions that builds over a long span of time punctuated with a wide array of one-off events, plot arcs and diverse writers.

Then again, say, a single-player game Darkest Dungeon has some pretty good lore (or so I heard) despite being made by a small team and having been out in the wild for barely 3 years.

I think one of the more interesting possibilities for lore is people being able to bring back book style copies that can be placed in town libraries for others to see. It makes it possible to build up knowledge of the lore through community, even if it doesn't impact knowledge for skills, and offers a nice little extra to those who are into such things.

That's a brilliant idea! I don't think I've ever heard about such community-driven lore collection before.

      Hello!

      @strikerhero said in Heya:

i'm looking forward into a game with pvp + grinding stuff

PvP - yep, there will be a lot of PvP if you play a Demon, and plenty of PvP if you play a Human.

Grinding - I don't think there will be a lot of grinding.

      • There will be no XP, so killing 1000 goblins - or, since you mentioned Tibia, hitting 1 goblin with your crappiest weapon 1000 times - isn't going to give you any progress at all.
      • Progression is going to be horizontal, so after playing for 10 hours you will deal the same amount of damage and have the same amount of hitpoints.
      • I guess harvesting resources for town building is going to possibly involve some grinding...? These trees won't cut down themselves. And you need to haul them on your unwieldy cart, too. Also, since Demon players raiding and razing your Human town is going to be a recurring event, I imagine you will have to repeatedly repair your town, too.

      Hope that clears things up.

Monster behavior is very important for us all well. While Fractured has elements of an ARPG, we don't like swarms of creatures with 0 brain. We're going to give this side of the game the attention it deserves!

@gothix said in Pinatas, catatonia, and Montgomery Scott (or what matters the most to me in MMOs):

So if one bear notices another bear from it's "tribe" in danger (in combat), it would react even if it does not notice the player that's attacking that other bear. It would first run towards the bear who needed help, and then check whats up. At that point if bear saw a player attacking a bear he would react to the player. A bear would not instantly run to a player that has aggro, because this might look foolish, because that other bear might not notice player instantly from his original position.

Even in the current (very basic) version of the creature AI we're running, pack animals already behave that way - they call for help to others members of the pack 🙂 Other aggressive creatures instead fight alone, while others just run. Things are going to get a lot more sophisticated than that of course, but it's going to take a while 😉

That's... that's some very good news! Thank you so much for the reply.
