@specter said in the half way races:

Also, the neutral gods are neutral because they don't care about your alignment. It has nothing to do with the neutral alignment itself.

Oh, so there are gods who you can associate with no matter what your alignment is, nice. Do they have different effects (or anything) different when you swap alignments though?

    • RE: Going Worldwide - Regional Servers & Localization

I really have to point out not everything must go according to "community feedback" because honestly, I've probably seen more crap ideas from community feedback than good ones. If games get swayed by the community too much, it gives the community a sense that anything they want will happen and they themselves often fail to realize the "negatives" in their own decision. Please don't fall into the pit hole that is the devs coming up with new and good ideas to surprise the community rather than the community itself dictating how a game should be made (Both sides of the spectrum are too extreme! -not listening to community at all or altering the game solely based on community feedback).

You can search up information and make some pre-planning if you're really into the game. Perhaps you might find information on this forum that will dissuade you from being hyped or making you donate for the kickstarter. šŸ˜„ Who knows.

The game design likely stops any one guild or even group of guilds from effectively controlling an entire planet.

So far I don't see anything to un-zerg planets. Care to share what game design prevents large guilds from constantly dominating?

    • RE: Evolution of "The Kill" in MMO PvP

What I see lacking from most MMORPGs to make the combat mechanics fun and an easy fix for boring mechanics is the ability to undo debuffs like stun, snare, freeze, etc. in a single skill. Most RPGs make what I would call a mistake, simply making these "un-debuff" skills worth long CD (which makes it quite weak), making these undebuff skills only undebuff certain CCs like only stun, and only creating at most one of these skills. Having, lets say, two medium length skills that do other things and do undebuffing makes a much more fluid gameplay. For anyone who played something like Drakensang Online back in the days when PVP was not screwed up before the management team changed and set forth the power creep you should know what I mean.

Personally I like RPGs where you CAN 1v3 (of course the 3 are probably not as skilled as you) if you're good while someone else playing the same class (well there isn't a class in Fractured so lets say using similar skills) can't do the same. Basically, a game where there is a high skill ceiling and for those who actually mastered it (top 0.01%) you can pull off stunning feats like a 1v3 (not because of some stupid item build and steamrolling your opponents like you do in mobas like LOL giving you a matchup advantage etc.).

    • RE: Poll to assess the percent of players per race

Ah, the poll thread I suggested! šŸ˜„
@Flamerunner btw for demons you can swap to angel with positive karma and you can swap to abomination as beastman. Also, you have to understand the method of collection you are using (polls). This type of data collection is not only optional but also usually only answered by those with stronger opinion. What does this mean? People who found Fractured and stay active checking forums probably skews the collected information towards the more "hardcore" player side because people actually have to stay involved on the forum to post daily or follow some threads etc rather than creating an account and just answering polls all day. As I mentioned in your last thread, PVE population outstrips PVP in pretty much all MMORPGs, but you'll usually find more PVP players trash talking each other on the forums while the PVEers farm their onions (and well demons = PVP for most players so yeah think you should get why there are more demon as choices atm).

    • RE: Firendly fire?

      @target said in Firendly fire?:

@chrightt Would it be such a bad thing for AoE to be situational? Especially in a game where it's very easy to switch out builds?

Friendly fire can even the playing field between large uncoordinated groups and small coordinated groups. Without sufficient deterrents, the game will break down into zerg vs zerg which is just boring imo.

No amount of group coordination will solve the zerg situation. If one side just zergs the other with single target spells (in this case killing healer is much easier when focused) will yield the same result. By the way, another problem with friendly fire is that it makes AoE heal way OP (because of the sheer amount of value) unless you make it weak (in which case it is weak af without a zerg) or heals the enemy (might as well not play this retarded game then cause you just straight up charge healer with nice benefit if they ever cast any form of aoe heal). Friendly fire works more for games like super smash where on a competitive level it is usually 1v1 or 2v2. Since screens only accommodate so much space and it is not exactly player friendly to cast spells exactly the way you want them to, friendly fire is generally not a very bright idea. Perhaps playing a game in VR like the anime SAO would be a better idea for friendly fire due to the fact that your mind can control exactly how you want spells to work. If you ever actually tried designing a game you will see friendly fire brings much more limitations than benefits (there is a reason why you don't see a lot of friendly fire in mmorpgs (at least in ARPG form).
You must understand that sometimes things don't exist for a reason, not because people never tried them. In this case, it'll be really hard to even get past developmental stage, and if it passes their QA (assuming they have one) Fractured will be a very unfriendly MMO for medium-large sized groups.

    • RE: Firendly fire?

Problem with too much actual "friendly fire" is AoE mechanics. The average gamer who have no clue wtf they're talking about thinks this just adds nice level of complexity to the game which it doesn't really in an ARPG. This company already looks like a conglomeration of too many ideas. Add an actual FF and this game might as well discourage anything more than duo/solo play or just throw those crappy large AoE spells out the window.

    • RE: Race Percentages

I think you can create a survey for that, but keep in mind a very small fraction of the people are actually constantly active on the forums and actually customize their character profiles. You can probably guess though, if the game turns out to be very PVE friendly then there may be a lot of beastmen or if PVP is too annoying on Tartaros, then there might be a lot more humans etc. It really depends on how the game plays out to be so a better statistic would be the race % after the alpha (the game isn't coming out for a long while anyways, might as well wait for alpha for some people with feedback to get a better sense).

how it is fun to PK without a reward? Why do PvE raids get rewards by killing bosses but PK don't get a thing?
I expect gear to be easily replaced, so any fear of it being replaced will quickly be overlooked.

I wouldn't drop anything right now. It seems like a good system in theory. splitting the game types between the planets while allowing occasional conflict will keep the worlds active.

      My edit:

I’d drop the friendly fire protection everywhere.

What do you mean PK doesn't yield a reward? They can easily implement a honor/fame or whatever system that allows you to gain some honor/fame even though you PK (as long as it is a worthy opponent not some newbie that just started the game, maybe similar knowledge levels?). How is it fun to get PK'd all day? It is funny how people think only for themselves: "how is it fun to PK without me just kicking newbie's ass?" Do people ever think about the multiple innocent guys that get PK'd even though they don't want it? "gear getting replaced quickly" is just an excuse, not a solution. in BotW your gear loses durability and you have to replace them, but at least you have some time to earn other gear. Do you think its fun to lose a gear in a minute and then another set in another? Whats the fun if gear is "easily" obtainable. They basically fail to capitalize on the gear progression system because they have to attune the gear system for full loot. I am a PVPer myself and I am aware that the PVE population far outstrips the PVP population in this day and age. Furthermore, even as a PVPer the idea of full loot just fails to make PVP fun. Whats the fun when people have to worry about losing their best set then using a subpar set to try and challenge someone who already defeated you. I mop the floor all day with people in PVP games. At least they don't lose their gear to me or else who else can crawl back and challenge me? No one basically.

    • RE: Let's be honest...

I've been here before the "daily posting" thread was even created. Heck, I've found the game before there was a foundation level. I'm currently level 146 in the foundation and I didn't even do the FB/twitter crap. Daily log and daily post really stacks over time.

    • RE: What if you had to choose one announced feature to drop?

Totally would drop the full-looting aspect of the game. Demons can have fun PKing others, but how is it fun when you just spawn to die without gear? Never understood how full looting meant to work well as it promotes events like people ganging up on poor solo players.

btw, I know some of you guys who only think of the very surface layer will say "then simply don't go anywhere that you can get killed/full looted". Yeah, sure but it limits the "world" where people who hate the system can visit. Furthermore, while Fractured might be trying to combine a few systems while adding their new inventions themselves, a hot pot of too many styles of games mixed up and not well refined usually turns out really badly. Simply put it, too many mixed systems mashed together can be a bad thing because only part of the game appeals to certain audiences while other parts appeal to other audiences (trying to appeal to everyone while not satisfying any). If the systems don't turn out well knit together then it will be detrimental.

    • RE: Slow combat vs Fast combat

Personally, I hate D3 and PoE style combat where you get in multiple attacks per second on crap mobs. That is just braindead grindfest relying on pure gear/build and insta-reaction spam fest. Endgame for these two games suck for me. I prefer games where attack speed isn't scaled too high and you're more able to maintain around the same attack speed throughout the whole game experience. However, I also like a decently fast paced combat that isn't too slow to the point where I can almost think of it as a continuous turn based skill exchange for isometric games. I think champions of Narroth (from videos I've seen) is fine for me. A bit faster would be fine as well, just nowhere near PoE and D3 would be fine really.

    • RE: How big is the world? By square km

No idea atm, but even if it is measured in km, the scaling for size is vastly different across games and how they create a feeling of distance. A regular player's screen might be 20m wide/high in some games while 40m in others. It happens all the time and I don't really think devs scale the character/world to real size so... Plus you can have a whole ton of barren land and call your game "large" in terms of world size, but 80% of the area will almost never be visited because they look like auto generated land with nothing.
