Probably not. I know your post is just an example but why would anyone neglect such a unique mount and let it go out of their possession like that?

I'd like crafting to be more dynamic, rather than static recipes for the same item with some randomized set stats.
Maybe you could experiment and tweak a few ingredients and change a few core bonuses or passives the equipment gives.

Yes, I am.
The only argument I can think of for sharding or channels at the moment in this game is areas that spawn high amounts of rare materials that usually becomes overcrowded from people trying to collect resources. I hope the environment is spaced out enough that this doesn't become an issue, especially since respawn times for natural resources in this game seemed to be half an hour during the alpha.

I was wondering if the developers were planning to implement channels in this game and if so, how many channels do they plan to implement?
It does have an impact on PvP especially if people can just run and change channels to hide from conflicts.

I wouldn't doubt the developers have played a few MOBA game their time.
Again, like Specter said, the comparison to any MOBA would largely be based on similar mechanisms in control schemes and combat.
The overall core gameplay would be entirely different. I would say it's a mixed between MOBA control and ARPG control (think Diablo or Path of Exile).
